Okay, just had a go of Sims 3 for 3DS (or whatever the title is) 'cause we got sent a copy at work. Short verdict? Blurgh. It's pretty ugly, and convoluted - definately a mad rush for launch job.
Stay away unless you're a dire Sims fan I'd reckon. _________________

Just popped into work and had a play with one. Pretty damn awesome. Only got to play the Face Smasher game (for some reason DSE is only getting them in for customer orders and not sending us any games..) but the effect really works. Also pretty cool with depth perception, when you miss and hit someone standing in the background it bounces off them, but if you miss everything it'll hit the wall behind. Very tempted but don't think I'd use it enough to justify a purchase. _________________

You won't. NOBODY HAS A 3DS OUTSIDE OF THIS FORUM. As far as I can tell.

The more I use it especially playing PES2011 I realise that its the shoulder buttons that affect controlling!
The 3DS design is slick, but because its so small its the shoulder buttons that make controlling a bit hard. The PSP size and design was perfect with the shoulder buttons.
PES2011 is a game which needs all the buttons and passing and shooting is all fine as you use the face buttons. Its just the running into space etc that need shoulder buttons thats tricky. Despite this you can tell its a good game.
In the long run games like New Super Mario that need only face buttons wont be a problem. Its just FPSs and the likes that need shoulder buttons that maybe a problem. Kids and smaller people with small hands will be fine!
Other than that 3DS is a gem! Even if you dont like PES just try it out anywere you can and be immensed by the graphics. The player likeness is really console quality and you can identify each player during gameplay.
3DS is a winner and more than a gimmick IMO. Worth the price!

It also was supposed to introduce messaging system. Where you could send your friends messages about something. I read about it alongside other things related to online services like the eShop. Can't remember where though, I read so many things about the 3DS before it came out.
I haven't tried Street pass yet, the 3DS hasn't left my house.
I think a Mii Friends Code/QR Code thread would be a good idea. _________________ "If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving is not for you."

Not true. I apparantly passed two people with a 3DS while walking around the city today (I was heading to and from my TAFE class this afternoon), as a couple of Miis were waiting for me when I checked my 3DS on the way home. Stop by the Swanston Street EB games store, and you're guaranteed to pick up a couple of Miis. The guys up in the Nintendo Experience are apparently broadcasting them. The Mii Plaza games are great, I really like Find Mii. I walked over 4000 steps according to the 3DS, which easily earned me a cool 10 game coins! _________________

I didn't realize I had to initialize any of the streetpass for the Mii plaza to acquire them while out. Managed to do it halfway today and walked a bit in the city. Managed to get 1. I should have gone to EB Swanston.
Loving the OS in this and how it all works. The 3D effect is great and the launch lineup is pretty abysmal bar SSF4. Although am enjoying Ghost Recon in a Fire Emblem kind of way. _________________

Just ordered and paid for my US 3DS, came to $267 with the courier shipping, so I should have that next week. Also I get a $25 USD credit off a launch title for ordering the console and another $10 USD off if I order a second game. Gonna grab Super Street Fighter 4 and Bust-A-Move Universe, which comes to about $63 USD including the courier postage.
Gonna have me a damn good time when they all arrive. _________________

Currently spending some time on Lego Star Wars and Rabbids 3D. Both are aimed at the young end of the scale but they have their moments. Rabbids is great if a little repetitive, Lego decent enough but should have been better. The space shooter sequences, especially in 3D, are worth it though.
Just started my new blog (linked below), will be going through some of the launch games in more detail over the weekend.

PES and Ridge Racer for me.
Both are pretty cool. Just getting into RR.
Much better once I realised it works best at 2/3rds 3D effect. It's pretty.
Anyone played Ghost Recon?

I just noticed the most useless, but still kinda cool easter egg on the 3ds.
The rate at which stuff moves on the top screen on the main 3ds menu changes depending on sound. I had music going and I noticed it was moving in time with the music tempo

Yes. I have. I'm really liking it. One of the best launch games for the system. I was dubious but it's an accessible turn based strategy game with enough depth to satisfy TBS veterans.
It is a lot more like Fire Emblem in a way that each unit is a character themselves. So, this isn't like the Advance Wars way of managing resources and producing disposable units (look into the handheld versions of Tom Clancy's End War for those). While you won't get 30 characters to choose from, you have 6 characters with the typical squad cliche's (soldier, sniper, heavy, medic, commander & technician) and you use them strategically to tackle some challenging set-pieces.
The game is headed by X-Com creator so there's pedigree and experience behind the game and it shows with all the detail and nuances to the turn based game mechanics. With interesting take on weapon, turn and priority structures. It all works wonderfully well. There's 3 difficulties you can tackle to cater for beginners to the experienced strategists, complete with incentives and rewards for tackling the hardest difficulty.
The graphics are nice but not mind-blowing. The 3D is just a gimmick. It looks nice but you'd eventually turn it off on long sessions. The story is LOL so don't expect anything worthy in that regard. If you are a fan of turn based strategy games, the X-com games or the Fire Emblem games, or just wanting something that is perfect for handheld gaming (in terms of being able to look away anytime and the action remains static), then this comes highly recommended.
--------
Back on topic. I'm really liking the implementation of the 360 like friends list where you are able to see who is online and what they are currently playing and their favorite game. The Activity Log with all sorts of stats and data of your 3DS playtime presented in text or graph format with filters galore. It appears Nintendo really paid attention to how social networking on consoles tick. It's still not perfect but certainly a huge step for the ultra-online-cautious Nintendo.
EDIT: Corrected some spelling and grammar errors. _________________
