Another problem caused by the ease of releasing firmware updates?

"No need for it to be 100%, lets just get it out there and then fix all the little issues later with firmware updates."

If it's happening in some games but not all, must be a particular trigger that causes it. Besides, it may have been something they honestly didn't know about. Or a manufacturing error in the US, possibly.

I've heard that there is already a firmware update for the 3DS, is this error still apparent with that firmware update, or is it the cause?

From forums I've been reading this error is not quite as common as some would think. It has occurred with and without the system update, but some people think it has something to do with the wireless settings and they recommend you keep it switched off.

Errm really? If I'm going to spend that much money on a new console, I think that I have every right to be concerned.

But it happens when any new piece of technology is released. Look at anything that is released, there will be people complaining there is something wrong with it. And of course the people complaining are always louder than the ones not, so it makes it seem like a serious issue when most of the time, it is minor.

If I recall correctly, this is the first piece of Ninetndo hardware in history that has any sort of problem upon release?

There's years of development and testing, so you have to assume that everything should be working perfectly out of the box. Months and months of testing, yet two days on retail and there's problems, you just can't simply excuse it.

But it is ridiculous to expect every console to be working properly, that's just impossible. There is of course going to be a few that have problems, it's just going to happen.

I know that, general hardware failures are expected, but not hardware failures relating to certain games that you decide to play, those problems should be ironed out upon release. Of course general hardware failures are near impossible to fix, it's just fact. But hardware failures due to the software it uses should be fixed before release.

Of course that's a hard task for complex machines like a PC, but not once have I ever heard of a home/portable console having hardware failures when you pop certain games in the drive.

But do we actually know how common it is? Is it affecting most consoles, or only a few? If it's only a few, then it's most likely nothing to worry about. A few people on Palgn already have 3DS's, have they experienced any problems?

Why would you buy a first gen Nintendo hand held anyway? There's going to be a new one out in 6 months anyway.

Really? You're bitter about the DSi??

It was pretty obvious that the DSi was just an updated hardware and operating system from the DS Lite.

Unless you upgraded from a DS/Lite to DSi, you should have no real reason to be bitter. Because having a DSi is better than having no DS console at all. But DS Lite is far superior despite it's lack of downloadable content.

I don't think there are any games out there that are DSi exclusive, or gameplay is greatly improved with the added features of the DSi.

You would have to be in your own little imaginary world to think that the DSi would revolutionise the way DS games are played.

The 3DS however, this holds a lot more potential for greatness. I for one am backing this from day one.

I'm pretty sure he had a lot of problems with his DSi, the actual console breaking, buttons etc, but I could be completely wrong.

I'm bitter about it cause it was a piece of shit that broke on me. I had my lite for like 2 years when I lost it and upgraded to the DSi, I'd never had a problem with my lite (Wich had been treated like shit) my DSi on the other hand was broken after 6 months of sitting in the bottom of my bag. The L button is dodgy and only works if you press down directly were the letter L is recessed into it and the spring in the SD card slot is broken rendering it completley unuseable.

If I'd known the DSi's were so dodgy I just would have bought another lite.

I've purchased all but the PS3 from day one in the last ten years. None of them have failed on me, that's including the 360 that had all those issues attached to it from day dot, and the dead pixel problem with the original DS. Truth is, as much as people are afraid to purchase something from day one, and you hear all the issues that come out from all corners, it equates to a tiny amount of the consoles sold at launch. Even if I turned the 3DS on this thursday and the above problem occurred, it wouldn't bother me at all. For starters, it's a software issue. Secondly, the problem hasn't been spotted in Japan as yet. Thirdly, Nintendo have as good a track record as anyone hardware wise (not just consoles) for quality of product on launch.

And now I have that massive paragraph out of the way, I'll wrap up by saying if you want to do it, do it. If you don't, don't bag out people who do, because that paragraph above is what will be waiting icon_wink.gif

What was the launch problem with the Gamecube or DS?

I know you're probably dicking around and I do actually agree with you somewhat, but every time this comes up I do want to emphasise that the DS Phat -> Lite situation was much longer than six months.

It was nearly a year and a half between the phat and lite systems, nearly three years between the lite and dsi, and nearly a year between the dsi and the XL.

We'll get a revision of the 3DS for sure. It's Nintendo so it's bound to happen. If people are happy to wait, then do so. But dont expect it until at least a year from now.

I still see no legitimate reason for the DSi or DSiXL to exist at all. It was one of the most pointless additions. Kind of like the iPhone 4 or iPad 2, its just money laundering. Now the 3DS just feels like another version of the DS to me.

Ohwell what do I care I mostly play consoles anyway.
