Played the demo....

All I can say is wow. It is off roading racing at it's most brutal and destructable best. Really nice touch with the tracks just crumbling as you race through them, some causing road blockages and new paths to open. Apocalypse has really gone under the radar, hype-wise. I might have to consider getting it if the demo is anything to go by. Also there's so many little things going on as you race in addition to the major course alterations (eg: looters throwing petrol bombs at cars and random debris flying everywhere). Graphics for the most part are a massive treat and you really sense the magnitude of events when something massive just gets destroyed in front of your eyes. Controls do leave a bit to be desired with braking often quite difficult and handling also not as precise as I would have wanted but some of that would be meant by the developers as it is a gritty off-road racer.

Gave the demo a go a couple of days ago. It was great fun, avoiding the buildings collapsing in front of me and the constant ramming from the other vehicles.

Those poor people running around never stood a chance.

I played the demo yesterday too, and it just didn't grab me like the first two. I'll get it eventually but I guess Yakuza 4 takes priority next week. May be I'll pick it up when I eventually get all the 3D stuff I need for my TV.

Yeah, I had a go of the demo yesterday. I only tried the Superbike, but it really just didn't feel right. The first game really nailed the sensation of driving, slidding, skidding, and flying through those hectic and dangerous tracks - this felt more like a smoothed over, floaty arcade experience where'd you get smashed if you turn wrong.

I guess I need to try the car, and give it a proper chance, but after spending the last few days playing Blur this just felt a little... off. Which is a shame, because I was really looking forward to this.

Will have to give it another go and try to get into it. PRobably just me being a spaz.

Demo feels off. What the hell.

It's too responsive and sharp with its movement. The first and second were incredible because of the vulnerability in driving. This feels like it has wipeout infused into the carnage which doesn't mix well.

Gah.

Apparently

$80 - DSE
$88 – Big W and Kmart
$89 – JB

Im buying it. I agree, the demo wasnt as good as I had hoped, I think I found the track design a little....bland compared to the last game? (besides the destruction) But i know there will be heaps of tracks in the full game.

Got a JB gift card to blow anyway so this seems like a good choice.

BTW these tracks look far more interesting than the one in the demo.

Just got this for $88 at GAME. Pretty happy about it. Big W and HN were $99.98 and $109.95 repsectively, ewww.

More soon. Friend bought a 3D TV too so will get to try that out as well.

My first impressions after the first few missions/whatever are.

The character design is rediculously bad, I have to laugh its so bad. But thats not why were here, story is equally stupid. Skip.

Game, its Motorstorm but it feels different. I loved the mud/water/grass nature of the other two and thats gone, replaced by city/quakes. Early days but at leats its different.

Will add you Matt_WA for some multiplayer fun would be cool to play with someone new to the game, also, this aint out in most of the world so its gonna be lonely.

Controls feel a bit off, tracks look cool and graphics are pretty nice.

So far so good.......

So been craking this for a few hours and I got what I paid for, its really fun and kicks total ass. Sure the controls are different (used ot it now), the setting/presentation is totally lame (I am finding it funny, that Aussie accent is SO BAD) and apart from that its Motorstorm. Kick ass fast car action with great graphics and heaps of rediculous jumps, crashed and hilarious parts where you run people over.

Wish there was blood though.

I think a 7.5/10 sounds about right from a reviewer whos job it is to analyse the game. As a gamer, if you like Motorstorm and have fun with it I suggest kicking on your comfy couch and cranking this up.

May get hard later, some of the crashed are a bit random (which for me is making it fresh but I can imagine on the harder levels when repeating challenged this may become an issue).

Anyway, added you guys maybe we can jam some multi. Presentation aside I still think this is a winner (and 7.5 out of 10 is a good game last time I checked).

I Remember Pacific Rift got 9s and 10s when it came out. Sadly this isn't as good.

Picked up a copy today, I'm on day two of the 2nd campaign and the destruction is really picking up, it's pretty fun trying to pick where the track is going to fall apart next. It's definetely no Pacific Rift 2, the way the vehicles handle is different, but I don't think the more "floaty" controls of Motorstorm/Pacific Rift would work in these environments all that well anyway. The physics were pretty awkward and hard to get used to, but I think I've finally gotten used to them (you have to drift...a lot).

Track design is awesome. Some of the levels are huge, with 3 or 4 major possible routes intertwining each other constantly over multiple levels of verticality. There is a lot of exploring to be done here.

The game looks amazing, I'm playing in 3D on a 55" Bravia and 3D is very immersive. Evolution are masters of making building fall down.

Regarding the soundtrack, it's not the best of the series but still a standout feature. It's surprised me a few times, the 1st track that played on the main menu was dubstep (none of my housemates believed it was actually music from the game) so it's definetely trying something new for the series and generally has more ups than downs. Still have not heard any Pendulum, which is dissappointing given the series history. Thank God for custom soundtracks.

I've played a few multiplayer races but there is noone online, probably due to the reasons mentioned above. Is anyone up for some races tonight?

This game is awesome. I got to agree, I think I prefer pacific rift, but my reasons are purely based on the environments, I much prefer muddy tropical forests, waterfalls and volcanos over the urban and city setting.

Having said that, this game is still a lot of fun and the track design is still awesome. I don't have much of a problem with the controls/physics that others have complained about.

Some of the destruction is pretty epic, driving along only to have the road collapse under you and all of a sudden you are driving through a mini canyon, or massive building toppling over infront of you.

I gotta say the demo track is probably my least favourite so far, they could have chosen a better track to really show off the game.

Had a quick stab at multiplayer with ManeKast... Seems fun, just need more than 2 people icon_razz.gif

BTW mipac, if you pause the game you can cycle through all the music....didn't notice any Pendulum though.... most of it is no-name stuff.

Pretty much all of the music was made just for the game, its mostly from Noisia and DJ Shadow.

We should get some multiplayer races going with everyone from here, ill add you guys now.

Played this a tonne in 3D last night on a mates 50' Panny Plasma (VT20). My verdict on the 3D is still the same, its very cool but unnecessary. The 2D looks awesome in its own way and my mind seems to fill in the blanks (more vibrant color/contrast etc). That being said the 3D is cool if you have it, just not a game changer.

Will play more multiplayer this weekend! We need more than two for sures. I think we can team up and go into other races to its a bit more high stakes.

Yeah, in Pacific Rift the CPU would rather kill you than beat you in the race. Not surprised to hear it's the same in this one... think I'll still grab it, always enjoyed Motorstorm.

Can you still play your own custom music during the game like in Pacific Rift?

Finally got around to playing the demo. I heard people say it (the demo) wasn't good? Me and my mates all had a blast playing it. I'm buying the retail now. They were like you need to buy this!!! Impressive visuals and I loved it when the city started collapsing. So awesome

I bought the game this morning for about $70 at JB-Hifi with their 20% discount they're currently running. Haven't played it yet though. I couldn't find the demo on any of the PS stores at all though when I was looking for it a week or two ago.
