Because minors play MA+15 games.

The game would be fitting for an R18+ rating. If we had the rating, this wouldn't be a problem.

Extremely disappointing, but not surprising. Looks like I might be importing a game for the first time in a very long time.

@Denny. A minor is anyone under 18 (unless you're in Queensland). So yes, minors do play MA15+.

@Jarrod. Agreed, it should have an R18 rating. A decision will be made in a few months at the SCAG meeting... hopefully this whole mess will be cleaned up and the Australian system will be comparable with equivalent systems elsewhere.

Ah well, what else did we expect? The classification system is a mess and this game wouldn't have gone through due to a) the violence in it, and b) media attention.

Just import it in and hopefully that will make enough news that the classification board will take note that their methods of draconian rule are antiquated.

meh. was going to import anyway. sure it's irritating that as an adult the government says i can't play adult games, but truth is it makes no difference to me, at the end of the day i get almost all my games online. god bless region free.

@Cyph. Again, it is not the classification board but the laws that they must adhere to. In fact the classification board have been more than liberal with their application of the rules. Let's cut them some slack.

You can name more games rated MA15+ in the last year, that were rated 18 in the UK, than you can name games that were refused classification.

Let's wait on the upcoming SCAG meeting where it has already been agreed that a decision will be made. With common sense an R18 will be introduced (not saying that's a given) and the classification board will have the freedom to treat games like films, and classify content as adults only where appropriate.

Have to agree with Jarrod and Scuba - this game has R written all over it and will be 18 plus or equivalent everywhere in the world.

Of the four of the two fatalities I've seen, two of them looked pretty high impact - the one where you can grind someone's face off against a train and the one where Raiden uses his hat in the ground like a bandsaw, dragging the opponent through it, groin first.

I can think of a lot of games that would fit in that criteria but pass classification.

The classification board here is like a bad umpire. Very consistent.

I meant the system, yes, not the board directly. Although I'm sure if they were serious they could raise this issue themselves rather than being puppets.

i am a little surprised, i must admit. i mean it should definitely be an R, if we had one, but some of the other appeals have been kind of inconsistant, to the point i thought this might have had a chance.

ah well.

as for importing - unlike a lot of RC games, this is a rather big name game, which could mean it'll be more susceptible to being confiscated by customs, unlike some lesser known titles, or titles edited for our "benefit".
just be aware of this. (and no, not stopping me either...)

By the looks of it Play Asia are blocking it 'in our region'. Not sure about Zavvi, Ozgameshop etc.

Mighty Ape though are open to letting Aussies buy it by the look of it though.

@Cyph. No worries.

Agree with others here about importing, although it's more about price than classification. When you can save $30 to $40 a title from ozgameshop or shopto, why wouldn't you? (Killzone 3 cost me $50 delivered!).

My concern with the classification decision at the upcoming SCAG meeting is how long it would take to implement the R18 should the AG's agree to it. Probably not enough time to see MK here. Good luck to those importing, seems like the way to go.

Yeah I was wondering the same thing. The meeting is in July, I'm not too familiar with introducing new laws and such but imagine it would take at least 1-2 months. So assuming the rating is agreed upon in July and implemented in August onwards then it would be about 4-5 months after MK has been released.

I wouldn't have thought they would bother releasing it here after that. They know all the diehards would have already imported.

I don't think they would be the type but a GOTY edition might be plausible, with DLC and stuff if there is any. Thats if this R rating gets approved, some of you guys are sounding a tad bit optimistic icon_razz.gif

With Atkinson out of the way (If I recall he was the only Attorney-General who was actively and vehemently against the R18+ rating) and O'Connor in favour of the rating then I really can't see any more obstacles and when the SCAG meet in July to decide.

http://www.techau.tv/blog/tag/brendan-oconnor/
Quote:

O’Connor is positive that Australia could have an R18+ classification for games before the year is out because all the arguments are in favour of change.

Finally O’Connor said “We can’t continue to have an out-dated arrangement, which doesn’t reflect technological changes, just like we can’t continue to deny the rights of adults. We simply can’t continue to justify the current arrangement,”

http://www.cnet.com.au/aussie-govt-supports-r18-games-339307763.htm

Quote:
Federal Home Affairs Minister Brendan O'Connor has stated the Gillard Labor Government fully supports an adult rating for games in Australia.

"We want to provide better guidance for parents and remove unsuitable material from children and teenagers. The introduction of an R18+ classification will help achieve that," O'Connor said in a press statement released yesterday.

The only reason it was not decided on in this month's SCAG was that one of the Attorney-Generals could not be present due to campaign/election commitments.

You're forgetting the issues with the Western Australian AG. I don't think it's quite an open-and-shut case.

The only place I have imported from recently was play-asia. Can anyone recommend another place to import from since play-asia will not be shipping here?

Cheers.

Once again, a complete lack of consistency from the ratings board.
It's pathetic really because, as you can see by reading this forum, whoever really wants to play MK will just import.
A flawed, useless system.
