Basically, I want to listen to more Hip Hop, so I created this thread in hope of getting some sick music new and old to listen to.
Right now listening to Grandmaster Flash, but that's going to last me an hour, so help! _________________

Let me know and I'll recommend you some stuff based on that. _________________

Biggie - Ready To Die <--- classic NY rap
Biggie - Life After Death <--- 2 Disc, so shuffle through and find what you like
Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star <--- my fave Mos Def related album
De La Soul's first three or four albums
Nas - Illmatic <--- classic NY rap
Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt <--- more classic NY rap
MF Doom - Operation: Doomsday / MM... Food / Born Like This <--- great albums
Are you a fan of the really old stuff? You mentioned you were listening to Grandmaster Flash. _________________

wow, no love for the west side in here
Pretty nice list from theory there, but I'll add a few of my favorites as well. Mostly just what I've been listening to recently:
GZA - legend of the liquid sword
GZA - Liquid swords
Mobb Deep - The infamous
Ghostface Killah - Fishscale
Also Tobias, your rap/hip-hop education would not be complete if you didn't endulge in a little G-Funk. As was mentioned in the Metal thread, some great music is great because it is stupid and outrageous. With that in mind you should definitly get:
Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle
Dr. Dre - 2001 (and to a lesser extent the Chronic)
Warren G - Regulate

What, you want me to list every single Hip Hop album I recommend? I don't have that kind of time. Was just going off what he likes... starting with those... get to the classics later.
2001 over The Chronic? Hahaha. Noob. _________________

There are some great recommendations here!
I would highly recommend Wu-Tang Clan's 'Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)' be added to that list as well. _________________

Oh and I'd recommend Lupe Fiasco's first 2 albums 'Food & Liquor' and 'The Cool'. His mixtapes are pretty good too. _________________

Hmm. Lupe is very hit and miss to me. Can't say I listen to anything of his much, though his stuff is on my iPod (not just the albums). The Love Story mixtape thing was decent. Heard the new album? Mixed reviews. I haven't heard it yet. _________________

Not heavily into hip-hop, but a few favs that I didn't see mentioned are:
2Pac - Thug Life
Immortal Technique - Revolutionary Vol. 1
Big Boi - Sir Lucious Leftfoot
The Roots - How I Got Over
Mos Def - The Estatic
Dizzee Rascal - Doy In Da Corner
And mad props to The Cool and Food and Liquor by Lupe Fiasco. I didn't know his 3rd album was out yet? I listened to one or two of his new songs and wasn't a fan. From memory it was lined with autotune _________________

a few personal favourites of mine:
The Pharcyde
Lords Of The Underground
Brand Nubian
Souls Of Mischeif
a few others worth checking out:
Necro - something different for sure, huge catalogue, really brutal lyrics, and one of the best flows in hip hop today in my opinion.
Immortal Technique - this guy has an amazing ability to tell stories in his lyrics like no other, search for "Dance With the Devil" and "Land of the Gun", hell just get yourself revolutionary vol 1 and 2 and give them a solid listen, first time i heard them mind = blown
Nas and Damien Marley - the two did a collab album last year, "Distant Relatives" they play off eachother really well, give them a listen if you can.
and more worth a mention: N.W.A., Hieroglyphics, Westside Connection, Grave Diggaz, Geto Boys, - i could go on for quite a while but thats enough for now.

Decent list.
Nas & Marley? Really? If I wanna listen to reggae, I'll listen to Bob!
Nas is best on his own, one of the best lyricists to ever do it.
Saw the two of them in concert recently... liked the solo Nas stuff.
Necro has brilliant production but I wouldn't go as far as saying he has the best flow. Just my opinion though. _________________

Can't believe the thread got this far without mentioning DJ Shadow's first and second records, Lyrics Born's excellent first album (his second sucks), or any of the classic 1980s stuff, like Public Enemy's first two records, Straight Outta Compton etc etc.
If you can track it down (it's ultra-rare now), the very first U.N.K.L.E. EP (called The Time Has Come) is worth a listen, especially for its historical significance (it's where the term "trip hop" originates). _________________ Twitter | XBL: Tamaaya | PSN: stormo | GameCentre/Steam: StorminNorman

^ This thread was originally Tobias asking for recommendations. At some point it turned into everyone saying "can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet" - if it started out as a general Hip Hop thread, most things would have been mentioned by now.
Also, you could provide someone a complete history of Hip Hop without mentioning DJ Shadow. Yeah, his early stuff is good, but not necessary by any means.
And U.N.K.L.E. doesn't really have any place in a Hip Hop thread. Even on Wiki it's listed as trip hop / downtempo / electronica / trip rock.
Lyrics Born's solo album? Some of the Latyrx stuff before it was decent. Again, kinda "alternative" Hip Hop, which is where your tastes seem to lie. Not that there's anything wrong with that. _________________
