'twas The Butterfly Effect tonight, a long couple of days topped off in no better way imaginable. Second time in town in 3 months, wish this was always the case. _________________

Holy Fuck are playing at the Hi Fi this Thu 3 Feb, $43 + bf.
I would love to see them, but with recent spending and up-coming monthly costs I doubt that I'll be able to.
Against Me! are also coming up at the Hi Fi! DO WANT! _________________

Big Day Out in Melbourne was pretty cool, apart from the 40 degree heat. The bands that I wanted to see were impressive, apart from Deftones. The sound wasn't great and Passenger without Maynard was ridiculous.
Saw Tool on Wednesday night. Amazing show, but the setlist could have been better. Intension was a waste of space, but I was pleasantly surprised to hear You Lied. Definitely in my top five favourite gigs. _________________

What'd you end up seeing?
Me,
The Vines: Got to the very front, but they were a shade of their former selves
Jim Jones Revue: Fun, seeing a guy sing blues accompanied with expletives.
Lupe Fiasco: Watched a bit of it from the outside, wasn't amazing
Anna Lunoe: A good looking DJ i saw in waiting for Die Antwoord, also good
Die Antwoord: AMAZING! I shook Ninja's head and was about 5 metres out, best experience
Crystal Castles: Angry Girl Screams to 64-bit music
John Butler: Good too finally see live, last year had to put up with Powderfinger in waiting for Muse, this is far better
Iggy Pop: AMAZING #2! I loved it, good too see some 'genuine rock'
Primal Scream: I listened lieing down in the grass until Come Together, fucking relaxing
Grinderman: Lets just say Nick Cave and metaphors about sex go down together very well.. Also touched his hand _________________

Deftones
John Butler Trio
The Stooges
Rammstein
Tool
Didn't bother going in early, I would have melted. _________________

My Soundwave:
Millencolin
Primus
Gang Of Four
No-Slayer
Queens Of The Stone Age
Coheed & Cambria
Melvins
Fucked Up
...despite NoSlayer, it was still utterly dope. _________________

Pixie's Soundwave:
Sevendust <3 even though they only played 8 and a bit songs (they did a montage of Pantera's 'Walk' and Metallica's 'Master of Puppets') LJ just likes to chat (passed on well wishes regarding the flood etc) and so do I when I've seen them in the past, but they only had a 40 min set.... Wished they did a sideshow here in Brissie =(
Had a bit of time before BFMV, so lunch under a tree with Rise to Remain, which was new to me and pretty good.
Bullet for my Valentine was next...they had a few sound issues with the staduim speakers not working for the first couple of songs....But rocked it
Stone Sour... Nailed it!!! LOVE THEM! Corey's voice just improves over time! I must admit, they included the slowest songs of the bands i saw, with 'Hesitate' but stoked with their set. Even though they left out 'Bother' . I've heard they haven't really played it much since Paul Grey died. Bummed they didnt do a sidewave either....
So gutted....Sevendust AND Stone Sour did two together...in Sydney and Melbourne YOU BASTARDS!!!
Then time to grab a few drinks and chill for a listen to PRIMUS, which was a welcome change of pace. So glad i caught them.
A few more bevvies where consumed while witnessing SLASH do his thing..And he delivered! Stoked with the GNR's tracks he picked for his set. Had a teary with my mates in memoriam of a dear friend who past away last november. His presence is always missed, but especially when 'Nightrain' and 'sweet child of mine' was played.
Now 30seconds to mars....Not much of a fan, but i stayed with my girl while our boys went to mosh with Slayer... Not bad, the sound could've been better.
My boy said slayer was good. Lots of people, should have been on a bigger stage. The sound was crap apparently, he was side of stage pretty far back....
Meanwhile I found myself nigel no mates (ditched for mosh pit of QOTSA, which clashed with my next must see) watching One Day As A Lion. Was pleasurely surprised. I wasn't familiar with them. And was trying to place the voice, when a I overheard a comment on who it was. I am a fan of a few Rage Against My Machine songs and found myself bopping to Zack doing his thing.
Finally my boy and mates met up at our meeting point to go over to the stage where my day was made and was my highlight... ROB ZOMBIE!
Been wanting to see this man forever, and the wait was worth it! He definately didn't disappoint. Only bummer that he only had an hour. This man is the king of metal/rock/hellbilly/whatever the kids are calling it these days. The stage was set up with huge screens with footage of topless ladies jiggling their boobies (which doesnt surprise me) and people covered with blood, leather and spikes. Loved every second of it and depite his age hasnt lost his appeal, that's for sure! He had a chat about the Brissie ladies, floods etc. Was worried that he hadn't played Dragula and was wrapping his set up and spied the next band was already on the next stage ready, when he came back to give us a climax! IT WAS EPIC!!! DRAGULA!! DIG!! BURN!! SLAM!!! \m/
Last but not least, Iron Maiden.... took us awhile to file back into the arena for these guys. I was impressed how much energy and rocking these guys still have! Played alot of their new stuff which i was unfamiliar with. But they rocked, the whole day rocked and I'm so glad to be witness it all!
Made the best memories and must admit was 'doing it tough' knowing this day was being repeated down south the following day and week...But grateful that we had no cancellations.

Pixie basically nailed my day at Soundwave.. Went to the Brissy one with a few mates that live up there. Got there when the gates opened. Caught the following
Ataris/MXPX
Sevendust
Sum 41 - end of
Gaslight Anthem - start of
BFMV - end of
Stone Sour
Primus
Slash
30stm - I thought were sh!t..
One Day as a Lion
Rob Zombie
My picks for the day were Stone Sour (seen them a few years ago & like then they didn't disappoint) Sevendust & Rob Zombie - both of which I had been waiting to see for a long time..
Then this last week I went to Gaslight at the Metro in Sydney, Stone Sour/Sevenedust & Rob Zombie/Murderdolls both at Festivall Hall in Melb. All 3 of those shows were awesome but I'd prob have to pick Rob Zombie as the highlight.. I will say tho Stone Sour (well Corey) did play bother at the sideshow.
Have Eddie Vedder solo show Tues week in canberra then a big break til Anzac Day for bluesfest when Bob Dylan is playing & Disturbed a few days later in Newy..

^^ wow same taste!
I also have Ed, but on Sunday! CANNOT WAIT! He is my GOD!! I've been waiting forever for him to bring his solo show here! It will be my 7th time seeing him, so shall be interesting to see him without his backup boys. Stoked to be able to nab a ticket since it's a little venue. Bummed I could only get the one night =( would've loved to see him multiple nights, but alot of people missed out =( so I shouldn't complain.
The following week I have Stone Temp with Grinspoon, which will be awesome! I haven't seen STone temp, but seen the Spoon on many occassions, and no doubt be fantastic! So many great bands! Gonna have withdrawals...I am contemplating buying tix for Birds of Tokyo, but i have an overseas adventure in late august to save for.
gambit, I'm so jealous that you saw the Sevendust and Stone Sour sideshows. I wasn't in a position to be able to travel down. Although I have seen them both before years ago at the old Arena (miss that place =( ) They certainly know how to please a crowd! I heard Sevendust didn't play for long though...no longer than what they played at Soundwave.

I originally tried to get tix for Eddie's show in Newy the night after since its closest to home but it sold out in 10 mins where as Canberra still hasn't that I know of.. I've seen P.J twice before so I have an idea what to expect - awesomeness!!
I decided to pass on the STP gig in Sydney tho now they're doing an intimate show at the metro in Sydney i'm kinda thinking maybe I should go lol. I've seen Grinspoon about 8 or so times now & they always kick ass.. Same with birds - seen them about 5 times now.
I had been waiting for years to see Sevendust so I was gonna make the most of it this time. They played in Sydney the Monday night but I had Gaslight on that night so decided on the melb show.
The set they played was nearly identical to the soundwave one - inc puppets & walk so was a lil disappointing.. would have liked to have heard waffle & angels son but I can't complain really

For me at perth
Sevendust - love them, but wasn't wrapped with their song choice. still v good.
BFMV - Good at what they do.
Slash - He shreds on that guitar, and Myles is a great fit.
30STM - seen them before, so knew half the show I'd be listening to Leto be a fkn douchebag, people want to hear you sing it dickhead. They sounded good when they actually played.
Quotsa - Waited years to see these guys and they delivered.
Protest The Hero - massive fan of these guys, and they nail it live, would like to see them again when Rody's voice isn't struggling though.
Good day, once again Soundwave was easily the best festival of the year. _________________

Anyone going to/gone to any Weird Al concerts this month? I went to the Canberra one on Saturday night, and just like his 2 previous concerts I've seen (2003 and 2007), he was incredible. Loud, huge amount of energy, hilarious songs and antics, not to mention the hilarious clips that played during costume changes...I say this with all seriousness: "Weird Al" Yankovic is the greatest performing artist of our time.
See him if you can; it's for your own good.

Clark, Harmonic 313, and Robin Fox are headlining Signal at Roxanne Parlour April 24th.
If you didn't just mess yourself with excitement, you clearly don't know those names.
Remedy that, and go buy a ticket while the first round is still available ($23.30).
Seriously.

Got my tickets today to the Destroy Music Melbourne show featuring The Amity Affliction (love these guys to death!), I Killed The Prom Queen, Deez Nuts and Of Mice and Men. Really stoked to be going to this gig, saw Amity at Soundwave (amongst other bands of course) and they absolutely killed it. So I'm really, really happy today .
Also have the Disturbed gig with Trivium and As I Lay Dying (I think...) in late April. Really looking forward to that! _________________
