Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone knew what these Megadrive adaptors are used for. Neither of them fit Master System games on the top, so they are not Master System converters. The second one has a switch on the side. Are they for playing games from other regions?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers.

Hmm, perhaps they were for SMS games of other regions (not sure if the SMS was region locked). The Megadrive itself wasn't region locked and could play Genesis games without an issue.

What about NES games from different regions?

I can't really confirm though as back in the days we never used converters for the Megadrive, just the SNES to play NTSC SNES games.

The one with the switch looks like a Datel Pro-Action Replay that I used to own back in the day. It not only allowed you to play games from other regions but had a built in cheat code creator which you could use to make your own hacks (like infinite lives, health, etc.) or input other hacks that were listed in various 'cheat books' and cheat sections of gaming magazines.

I remember it because it let me play a US version of Maximum Carnage on my PAL Sega Mega Drive. Those were the days!

Thanks for the responses guys icon_smile.gif I'll track down a Genesis or Japanese Megadrive game and give them a try!
