Sorry for singling you out Aussie but the whole thing with Call of Duty
I've never actually played much COD, I played a couple of multiplayer rounds in one of the WW2 ones and the first level of COD 4.
But why the **** do you guys all give a ****? Who cares what other people play, it's a **** game that they enjoy? I don't understand the felatio given to Metal Gear Solid, but man it's a **** game that other people enjoy. What's the big **** deal? Why are people that play it not gamers? They're playing a game? Why does playing Dragon Age or Halo or Tetris or **** Mario Brothers make you any more of a gamer then COD?
What the hell did this game do? Come around to your house and kick you in the dick and steal your dog or something?
Or is this just the new "Well this game is popular, lets hate it" Thing since Halo is winding down? |

A lot of the time this is because the street goes to the suburb in question. This won't be true for all the examples you listed but at one point Brisbane St would have been the main route to get to Brisbane from Ipswich.
You see this literal naming scheme a lot more in country Australia. Often if a main road has a name, the locals just call it by the towns it links anyway.
Other times you get similar names because the roads are named after the same thing that the towns are - usually people or a location in Britain or even Europe. That means a lot of streets named after British royals.

- People who keep saying the same word incorrectly in the same way over and over while talking. It's alright if they just say it once, but each repetition hurts more than the last.
- When the media asks a family member of a crime victim to give their say about the justice system. His son was murdered; he is hardly going to make a rational, unbiased judgement. (Yet somehow this is supposed to add weight to the argument?)
- People referring to pirated games as "backups". They're not.
- When some sort of rule says one thing but means another and the person enforcing it magically expects everyone to know that it is a load of crap.
- Facades.
- When people (almost always female) deliberately pretend to be stupider than they really are in order to appear cute. They're not.
- "Herp derp is that an anteater?"
- Crappy levels in games that you have to slog through. Special mentions to Super Paper Mario and FFXIII.
That and when Theory makes a post. :3

You missed the point, you obviously haven't encountered these sorts of people. If its a regular gamer who loves COD I don't care, but people who play nothing else because they consider it nerdy just piss me off.
Firstly, especially with the latest game, its the most ridiculous case of copy and paste gameplay I have ever seen. They are so cheaply made these days its ridiculous. When I see on steam they are charging $90 for Modern Warfare 2, a game thats over 2 years old, that just tells me that Activision are greedy fucking cunts, cemented by the fact they release these shitty "expansions" every single year. They still charge ridiculous amounts for Cod games even they though they have made more than enough money off them. Its hard to love it when you have companies like Valve practically giving away their games after a certain period of time.
Why the fuck do I care? Because every dumb-ass egocentric fucktard I run into will make fun of me for being a gamer, but for some reason consider it "cool" to be playing COD. Not to mention the fact that the campaign is complete trash, and the multiplayer is incredibly boring and un-original, especially after the 3rd copy/paste.
If its any other game I wouldn't give a fuck would I? Or if its a heavy gamer whos into it same thing. But there is a whole sub-culture of douche bag dickheads who think its the GREATEST FUCKING GAME IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. And think that somehow any other game is just nerdy and a waste of time. Example, I was talking to some guy at uni, and when I mentioned I play a tonne of games he basically laughed at me like "oh so your one of those geeks", then he tells me he plays COD regularly, as if its not the same thing. Its like he considers himself higher on the social ladder because its not geeky or some bullshit.
If someone is a Metal Gear Solid fanboy I can guarantee 100% they play tonnes of other games. You take your average dumbass COD fanboy and they probably think they are hot shit because its the only game they touch.
It pisses me off? This thread is for pet hates and thats one of them, if it doesn't piss you off then its not a pet hate. Nothing you say will change how I feel. Its like crticizing someone for getting annoyed at incorrect grammar, there's plenty of arguments why its completely insignificant in their lives but so what? I'm not running around the street holding up signs condemning the game, I just mentioned it annoys me. Not being hostile towards you, this is just something that pisses me off as its basically a case of some arrogant prick thinking he is better than you.

This is true, its a case of everyone seeing how popular it is and thinking that its the perfect formula and mimicking it. Ironically, if any game does copy it, it just gets slammed as being not as good as COD.

In all honesty I love COD - my favourite gaming moments include drunkenly lanning up between two flats in hawthorn and screaming abuse through a bathroom window. Sure – People don’t like it. But then again – I don’t like people.
I forget where I was going with this.
Oh yeah – COD is superior to every other shooter on the market because it is the most realistic and well made and has the best online mode and its uber fun. I’m a true gamer and people who don’t get it are stoopid.

If I may add my $0.02, I believe that the only thing people truly hate about COD is the 13 year-old douchebags that play it (and I interact with on a daily basis.)
The extreme hatred of the game is a result of people not wanting to be a giant douche like the typical COD player.

I steer clear of any CoD games now, Whenever i used to play Cod 3 i would get extremely sick and almost vomit. it is the only game that has ever caused this.
People who speed in 50km zones and tailgate you.
People who continue to do 50k's in an 80 zone like they dont notice the signs.

But how else are you going to get to the second floor? climb up the supporting walls or columns? Escalators are not meant to be stood on like a ride at the amusement park. I agree with Brendan, get on it and just keep walking.
Although the thread hasn't been entirely successful, love all the differing opinions on COD.
But isn't the underlying popularity behind COD4 and above because that it was the first accurately depicted modern warfare game to exist on consoles? Sure, there are plenty before it on PC, but the original modern warfare game was the first to be introduced on a very mainstream platform (consoles). Combine this with Americas general love of all things war-based and you have a winner. It's like people who stick with Sony after their love of PS2 and simply refuse to acknowledge any other brand of console that comes along. All COD's before modern Warfare weren't really that popular, then BAM! modern warfare comes out and there was nothing else to compare it to. So people still assume it's still the best because they refuse to look beyond it.
Kind of like music, so many people are content with all the commercial pop/rap/hip-hop/whatever that they listen to that they don't realise there's infinitely better music to be found out there if they at least try to look for it, but most people never bother trying.
I pray that the new Battlefield begins COD's downfall...
