On the one hand I really hope it gets through unedited.
On the other hand I kind of hope it doesn't. A big name game getting banned and them refusing to edit it down would be a big push to get the R18 rating moving faster.
Whatever happens though, I just really don't want to see a neutered version of Mortal Kombat. Without the gore it's kind of missing the point. _________________

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Australian Classification Review Board completely separate from the the similarly named Australian Classification Board? So Warner Bros aren't, in fact, simply submiting the game again to the same people. The Review board is a statutory authority that has completely different members and only meets when an appeal is made about the decisions of the ACB. So really, Warner Bros aren't doing anything unusual here.
If the appeal fails, then they'd have to edit the game and go back through the original ACB again.
Or I am wrong here? _________________

Sweet.
I don't know why they make the names of these things so similar though.
Just out of interest, Alien Versus Predator and Fear 2 both appealed to the Review Board and had their RC overturned, so there is hope yet that the game will go through. Some at least. _________________

For me, the balance of evidence seems to be that being willing to make changes hurts your chances, not helps. AvP2 said, "Nope, no changes" and got in, while Left For Dead 2 hedged its bets, and they lost.
Which to my mind makes sense. If they're willing to make changes, well gee, you're kind of hurting your claim of needing the gore for artistic reasons, huh?

Huh?
L4D2 got refused, made changes and re-submitted and got in
AVP got refused, resubmitted unchanged and got in.
There's nothing to say that L4D2 wouldn't have gotten in if it had been resubmitted but they didn't they made changes. And there's nothing to say AVP would have got refused if they'd made changes, they just didn't and got through.
Honestly I don't think you're willingness has anything to do with it. _________________

Yeah I'm not sure that the Review Board were even aware of an edited version of Left for Dead 2 being made at the time were they? Wasn't that version made after the appeal was rejected, like with Silent Hill Homecoming? _________________

I hope they get through this time. From the trailers the violence isn't that different to earlier MKs or many other games.

I don't think the Attorney Generals are motivated by wanting to play Mortal Kombat. _________________

Shows how out of touch they are
I more mean, that when a game gets banned it makes people get active and push for it more, but then it gets let through for an edited version and people tend to shut up buy the game and go back to winging about it and not really doing anything. _________________

Yeah but what more can be done to get them to take notice? Atkinson got random night visits and death threats. GAME/PALGN got 80k+ signatures in favour of an R18+ rating. They still haven't taken note yet. _________________

I, for one, am quite happy if it's banned for similar reasons said above.
Gamers are a lazy bunch with a short attention span. As a whole, we complain a bit and move on with our lives. After the whole government submission thing, pretty much all talk about it stopped. No games were banned to bring it back in the headlines, and some people I spoke to actually thought we were successful and the R rating was approved.
So ban the game and get it back into the headlines. Retailers have been complaining about online sales hurting their profits and the Australian economy, so this will only fuel their fire as well.
And then there's the added bonus that uninformed parents can't walk into their local EB Games and buy the (clearly) adult game for their 10 year old on a whim. They will have to actively look up the game online and use their credit card to order it. In theory, that could make them a more informed buyer, since they'll (hopefully) read the game description and see the screenshots first.
As mentioned, most of us gamers won't have a problem getting the game anyway, so bring it on!

Pretty much what Jimmy said.
There was a huge push for R18 games a while back, getting all the signatures, letter writing campaigns etc. Then it all just kind of stopped. Sure the lets play guys are still championing the cause but for the most part the wider gamer community just kind of stopped giving a shit. _________________

Which is politics in a nutshell.....bore them till no one cares anymore, and make fun illegal. And introduce a new tax and give themselves a pay rise for good measure, they must all be due for one soon, surely a week has passed. _________________ kill, kill, kill.....the white man. If Aliens versus Predator got through with it's content (literal FPS view of your avatar ripping a Marine's head off), then some harmless X-Ray stuff really can't upset too many people. I mean, this stuff's been used in movies forever!
