So, just playing a game and all of a sudden the Playstation freaks out and turns off. Then the red light begins to flash. So hold down the "on" button and it starts up again, turns green, then i see some yellow, then it goes back to the flashing light. So, i'm freaking, any suggestions. And no, its well past its warranty. Thanks in advance. Also it appears if i turn the whole system off for a while then try again i get it starting up again (without seeing anything on the screen but blue light) on system, before it goes back to flashing red light. _________________

Or you can fix it with a hairdryer. Mine was still working weeks after I fixed it (it might still be, I don't know), though it was only on for a couple of hours over those weeks. It's definitely not a permanent solution, but it lets you back it up to a new PS3, if you choose to buy one.

Thanks everyone, i reckon i'm going to try and get it fixed and have my saved games backed up onto the PC, from there, if and by the sounds of it inevitablly when it comes down with the yellow light of death again, i'll just be grabbing me a slim model. _________________

Put it in the empty PS3 box upside down and blow a hairdryer on it for a certain amount of time, might be 20 or so minutes. It seems to work for a lot of people, and worked fine for me, it's obviously not a permanent solution but it's a LOT better than paying $100 or so to repair it just to copy your save games over.
