Question why does the minority rule the majority? I would love to know why should the average age of a gamer being 20-30 be ruled by dumb parents. Also i would love to know why couldn't the government do a ad campaign explaining to all the stupid parents about a R+ system like they do with smoking and drinking and washing hands ffs.....

One can dream....

nothing to do with the parents, in fact most parents were in support of the R18+ for games the only groups against it were (according to the report based on submissions to that minister for home affairs)

- the australian christian lobby
- a few womens groups
- some anti-gun rights group

This just got coverage on TV, ABC 24. They interviewed one of the guys from Kotaku about it, he reckons that it's only a matter of time until an R rating is implemented. He had a little trouble convincing the reporter that the game really needs to be available here, when so many games don't have extreme gore/violence.

Yeah cause that's what it's about. It's a couple of guys sitting in there chairs twiling there moustaches patting there giant fluffy cats thinking "Yes, we will ban this game! THAT WILL STOP THE GAMERS!"

The ratings board is rating it according to the ratings that have been set down. The ratings that we're set down are old and out dated and there are moves to change them, but like anything in government it's a slow process.

The thing that annoys me is there is no consistency with these types of rulings. It's just a bunch of random people deciding a game is too violent due to one particular thing.

Technically almost all the violent games out there should be banned.

So either ban them all or don't ban any.

The rating for R seems to have disappeared of late. What ever happened to all the push to get this through?

1) Sales assistants need to be equipped with tasers so that upon purchase of a product from a "stupid parent" they can whip it out and tase them with a "bad parent, bad, no circumventing of the classification!"

2)Upon tasing, burly men in suits should arrive from the backroom to chain the kids in the back in sweat shop conditions to stick all their copious amounts of stickers on the games as punishment for getting their parent tased.

3) Whilst convulsing on the floor, the parent shall have their wallet taken, name and address recorded so they may be blacklisted from all franchisees of the chain.

4) There shall be much rejoining as parents quit breaking the law and actually instill some values in their child outside of selfish, spoiled byproduct of a lack of rubber in the house. Use a shoe, it's the same thing, the world will thank you for it.

Joking aside, was always going to happen, this generation is simply highlighting the "severity" of the problems with an archaic classification system since common sense would dictate that as graphical representation pushes towards the limits of realism & immersion than the greater the amount will be of items which will be refused classification or misclassified on a system created 40 years ago (or 17 for video games given 1994).

Honestly this is one case were I actually agree with the rating systems. There was shit I was seeing in this game that made me cringe and I'm pretty hard to shock.

Oh no! Now I have to purchase it at half the price and probably a week earlier from over seas!

Still though. I didn't work at GAME and get everybody to sign that petition for nothing, I hope!

I swear God of War 3 was much more violent than this and it presents itself in a serious manner. MK always seems to have a tongue in cheek tone behind it's violence.

Context and frequency also play into these things.

While you could make an argument that some scenes in God of War 3 are more violent then the x-ray combos and fatalities in MK 9 (Like say him crushing Hercules head) the real sickening violences if pretty much saved for the ends of boss fights. Before that it's really pretty tame. MK 9 has the same level of violence as some of the worst bits in God of War 3 almost constantly through out the game.

Which things exactly were they? I saw the Kung lao fatality and it didn't bother me one bit which is funny because others were saying that it made them cringe. The thing that makes it funny is that one of the reasons I watch very few horror movies is becuase the violence is to much for me.Hell I once passed out during a scene of one of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies.

I would like to know the scenes because I want to see how I react to them.

It still has something to do with the parents because they are the ones that are willingly buying games like Manhunt for their 10 year olds simply because their child WANTS it.

Unfortunately, i don't think an r rating would stop games falling into in-appropriate hands. what seems to be the issue is when general public (uniformed) think of games, they think children, there's no link in their minds between gaming and adults. Its also clear that's the case with the AG's, as the OFLC's piece said, MK reboot was deemed in-appropriate for children. It wasnt aimed at children. it was an adult game aimed at adults. its very obvious to us, but not to everyone.

Which is stupidity brought on by ignorance.I don't know how any intelligent adult can think that just because something is a game that an 18+ rating doesn't mean anything.Other than the ognorant thining that games are still only for children.

What, would we need stickers that say something like R18+ This game is an interactive equivalent of the Saw movies.Which means it has extreme and intense violence which is very likely to scar a child and give them nighmares for a week?
