according to this anyhow:

| Quote: | Top 10:

2. Melbourne, Australia
3. Vienna, Austria
4. Toronto, Canada
5. Calgary, Canada
6. Helsinki, Finland
7. Sydney, Australia
8. Perth, Australia
8. Adelaide, Australia
10. Auckland, New Zealand
|
suprisingly, a lot of australian cities on there. I am impressed. I also prefer Melbourne although I live in Sydney so I can't quibble with that list.
Bottom 10:
1. Harare, Zimbabwe
2. Dhaka , Bangladesh
3. Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea
4. Lagos, Nigeria
5. Algiers , Algeria
6. Karachi, Pakistan
7. Douala, Cameroon
8. Tehran, Iran
9. Dakar, Senegal
10. Colombo, Sri Lanka _________________

I think Melbourne always tops Sydney in those lists, which really isn't that surprising.
I prefer Adelaide, but I have a preference for cities which aren't too big (with a slight amount of bias).

They must live in Sydney and are jelly.
Or you posted it in General Gaming and a mod moved it.

I'll make do with number 7 for now until people of NSW decide we will replace the Miss I-don't-do-anything with whoever that isn't her and see if there is some improvement there.
You win for now Melbourne, for now. I'm happy in where I am atm, great public transport access (hooray for not be stuck in the infamous traffic jams), a great job, bulk billed doctors *sniff* etc etc.
I'm surprised to not see Brisbane up on the list, Adelaide and Perth must be doing so well lately. _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

Sydneysiders are especially militant about how great their declining city is.
(I grew up in Sydney, watched it get nice for the Olympics, and slide in to urban decay ever since. There's a reason it's slipping down all those polls.) _________________

read the story at the link. There's a criteria : sydney is falling because of costs I'm sure. Its an expensive city. Even with the slip its still 97ish which is super high in terms of rating. London and New York in 54th and 56th positions...

Adelaide, Perth and Sydney are quite close in rating. It won't be long until Adelaide and Perth squash Sydney. MWAHAHA!

I would've thought Grozny & Kabul would be worse than the lot of 'em. Or are places which have had the shit blown out of it not on the list due to insufficient data. _________________

What the hell does most livable city mean? I don't have much hope for the world if Sydney is in the top 10. Not trolling Sydney people here, (I am one) but theres no way there can only 6 cities more liveable than Sydney. The price of stuff is high, it feels run down, people don't seem all that friendly, infrastructure is not exactly excellent. Hmmm
Did you make that list THEMAN? Lol

fuck yeah Radelaide.
A tendency for major musical acts to skip us aside, I really do like living here. Especially now in Fringe season. _________________

Vancouver is a little surprising, although it is one of the friendliest places I've been, much like Melbourne in that regard.

'Sif Afganistan isn't #1 on the bottom 10.
At least Iran is in there,Nand Nigeria with their scanners; at least they got them right.... _________________

I've always assumed that it's a balance between a relatively cheap rent value whilst still offering comfortable living with a small crime rate, in a built up area that is close to many attractions, concerts and events. Which is why I thought Brisbane would be on top for Australia (cheapest of the capital cities for rent, that host major events ie. east coast), it has certainly been up there in past years recently. Probably not so much now with the flooding so it doesn't get a look in.

People complain about Sydney being "unlivable" or some garbage, but if its sitting there in the top 10 in the entire world, I'm not inclined to be worried or feel like I'm missing out.
I'm a Sydney-sider. Never been to Melbourne, but I can see myself moving there one day as they have a lot more digital effects studios down there, = more jobs for me. Just gotta convince the missus and family. _________________

Woot! Go Canberra. Glad to see we are being recognised.
[/sarcasm]
But honestly, if I had to make a choice, despite living in Sydney for 18 years, I would much rather Melbourne to live in. Just a nicer place with a good feel to it.

There is also a difference between Sydney (CBD) and Sydney as a entire area. It's pretty varied.
I do like parts of Sydney but I've noticed that people in Sydney seem to be a lot more aggressive these days, it's only one in a hundred people or so but it sticks out.
I guess I can't really judge though I've only lived one other place and it was in China, the town I was in was quaint.

The only reason Perth makes a mention is cause there is nothing to do here, thus, easy not to spend money (unless you need essentials, which of course are expensive as all sorts).
