Current PS3 and Bluray collection. Small but it's growing.

^ Very cool. I just fixed up my DVD shelves and finally have everything on the one shelf. Will get some pics in a bit.

Question: how do you count box sets? One stat per movie or just one per box?

+1 for the Totoro Catbus!! icon_smile.gif

Thought I'd add an updated pic of my new 360 collection and ever-growing blurays.

I think the 360 is up to about 60-65 games and bluray about 170.

Nice icon_biggrin.gif, didn't want to requote the picture(s) in question, but your display cream/white cabinet is something i would like to emulate. Although i'm eyeing off a few office style cabinets (standard doors, so nobody could see them all if they were looking or walking past my room) to stock and rearrange my currently untidy collection.

Similar to my Xbox 360/Ps3 collection, my blu-rays and dvds are all over the place icon_redface.gif, most are stored away from view two containers in my room full of them, which over the years since have had books and other 'recent' as (in the last 2 years) worth of dvds stacked on top. The brunt of my dvds are stored up the top of my bedroom cupboard behind where i keep my current/recently played 360 + ps3 games.

While a small selection of my favorite titles are stored on the top shelf of an old book shelf.

I'll get pictures of the dvds + blu-rays i can grab and put together, my blu-ray situation hasn't changed much since my last picture update. A lot of the blu-rays i have purchased since buying a ps3 in 2008 have been more for "show" than me actually watching them constantly. I've opened and watched a few, but a number of them remain sealed in their plastic covering as per when i purchased them. I'll get around to watching ALL of them eventually.

I've collected a number of the SAME titles over my dvd buying years, some of it was unavoidable (eg: Robocop 1 & 3 were available seperately, yet Robocop 2 could only be 'purchased' in box set form). Other times i might buy a special edition of something (eg: Rocky + Rocky Legends on the playstation 2 came with Rocky I and Rocky II - yet before that i had the Rocky 1 - 5 box set at the time). I've also gone and purchased the same dvd twice in order to have a cheap backup copy of the original copy i purchased (i had some drama with trying to locate some dvds back in 2004 - which made me take this route, as if i ever had dvd trouble again i didn't want to have another wild goose chase for them). I don't do it with EVERY dvd i buy as then i'd have no room to store them, just what i deem as the harder to find titles (for example: most of my WWE wrestling dvds that don't get reissued very often).

*** I actually have a lot more to say about dvds and my penchant for buying them, but this is more of a picture thread than an all round discussion.... so i'll cut myself off before i make a bigger arse out of myself icon_biggrin.gif

A quick snapshot of my blu-ray collection. Some titles missing include: Inception and alternate copies of Superman, Superman II (Richard Donner cut), Batman Begins.

The titles on the far bottom right are Michael Jackson's This is It collectors edition and the Batman Begins collectors edition (that came with TDK opening scene comic).

Even though it was a new format, i don't think i went too overboard with buying blu-rays left right and center. I wasn't interested when they were $40 a title. I splurged when the opportunity came - the Spider-man trilogy box set for example was under $60 when i purchased it a few years back (when it was still going for $90 - $100+ at some stores) - figured $20 per title was worth it.

Most of my other purchases have been $25 or under, majority were definitely under $20 - exceptions being This is it 'collectors edition', Batman Begins and Back to the Future trilogy.

This is my newly organised DVD/HD-DVD/Bluray/Book/Vinyl shelf. I used to think I had a lot of DVDs but compared to some of you I really don't. And half of mine are sealed! I'm crazy.

Bigger version here if anyone cares to see which titles are in my collection.

Where do you people buy shelves for your games/media? I've been looking into new shelves to maximise the use of space in my room (I've well and truly run out of room for games), but so far have not found anything to match my exacting standards (and measurements). I'm starting to feel like it would be easiest and cheapest to build my own.

My dad made mine to my specifications. I wanted an area for my records (bottom left) and then apart from the one shelf directly above that, the rest are removable. There are holes all down the side to adjust shelf height, which is lucky as he made me this before hd-dvd/bluray with their smaller size cases.

There are some very cheap and decent bookshelves at IKEA though, that's the only place I can think of.

Yeah, I was thinking your shelves looked nice icon_smile.gif I've had a look through IKEA's catalogue but none matches the measurements I want well enough, as I'm pretty specific with my wants to ensure I can fit as many games and CDs in as possible. I'll probably end up making my own when I have the time >_<

Another idea is to take a few different sized games with you to IKEA and try out the shelves in person... you never know, you may be pleasantly surprised. Or call a carpenter/cabinet maker from the Yellow Pages and see if you can get a quote for a bookshelf made to your specifications?

It's not the size of the shelves so much I'm worried about as the size of the actual unit. I have so much crap in my room that the only place I can really put my media is in front of my (unused) fireplace, but there's a mantelpiece above it so it needs to be short enough to fit into that space. At the moment, I have several stacked shelves and CD units in there which fit pretty well, but don't make the best use of the space since the CD units are the spring-loaded ones that necessarily add extra space between each CD. Drawing out shelf specifications with my maximum outer dimensions, I can double my game/DVD storage and slightly increase my CD storage, which doesn't solve all my problems (still can't fit all the games!) but helps a lot. Getting a quote is probably a good idea - it'll give me an idea of whether I can afford to have one made (and/or justify the cost), or whether the price difference is big enough that I may as well make it myself.

I loved this sentence of yours.

I like the way you're thinking about it.

The other day I was thinking about all the wasted space we have in an average room. What if we could have shelves as high as the ceiling, and a ladder on wheels to move around and reach the top shelves with? Ahhh we can dream.

I don't know why I'm bringing up IKEA so much but have you seen the site IKEA hackers? They usually have ways to maximise space using IKEA stuff. You would think I was working for them or something. icon_whistle.gif

In answering your previous question, I count boxsets as one, but incases of like the El Mariachi Trilogy (which has two seperate DVD cases in a box with different movies on the disc) I count that as two.

This would be amazing. It's like those libraries you see in TV shows, but for games.

In answering your previous question, I count boxsets as one, but incases of like the El Mariachi Trilogy (which has two seperate DVD cases in a box with different movies on the disc) I count that as two.

It's a three disc "ultimate edition" something something. Includes first volume of the manga and a 35mm film print and some art cards.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000HLDFM2

Weird thing is I was given both copies. The first (the one on the left) was ordered from Amazon from a friend and the case is dented so they sent him another one and he gave me the dented one. Then another friend was going to frame the film print for me, but unfortunately lost it and spent a ridiculous amount replacing it for me last year (I didn't even know until I was given the new one, wouldn't have expected them to do so since it's out of print). Including those two R1 versions, I have four Oldboy DVDs. Also got the Tartan Asia Extreme 2 disc and a normal R4 1 disc version. Yeah, I kinda like the movie. And am stupid. icon_dumb.gif

I think I get your counting method. Star Wars I-VI is counted as 6 even if 3 are in a trilogy box set? So you're counting by movie. But then what about TV shows? One stat per season? When I understand I'll count mine up and compare with your number. Not because my number would be close, just because I have nothing better to be doing with my time.

Jedi_Amara wrote:

lol no, but I'm not exactly a furniture shopping type of guy so IKEA is the only frame of reference I have... which is probably a bad thing

i count mine by movie - if i can shelve them individually - but bonus discs don't count.

so like i count my James Bond Collection by each film, instead of 1 count for 20 films.
but the Alien Legacy boxset came with the 4 Alien films in separate cases, plus a bonus Legacy disc in a 5th case - but i only count 4.

but then the Back to the Future trilogy boxset has a folded cardboard case - not separate cases, so i count that only once.
or something like the 40 Year Old Virgin/Knocked Up double pack - 1 csae, 2 movies = 1 count.

but just to make things a little weird, TV shows count by the season - even in the case of Buffy, which was a 7 season boxset - i count as 7, not 1, even though i can't separate them from any outer sleeve.

i may be weird.

Well, I keep all my movies and cd's in a word document to keep track of what I have or don't have, I list movies individually and seasons individually, regardless of whether they're in a pack or not. But that's because I want to know exactly what I have.

I count em all individually. I also hate box sets when it comes to movies. I'd rather BTTF as 3 separate releases, or if it is in a pack, in individual full size amaray cases. I'm not conerned about saving space, as I have heaps of shelves not in use as it is.

Yeah mine's exactly the same as this. Except if its like 2 movies in one single DVD case, I'll count that as one. Like this http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/dvd/dvd-genres/kids-family/labyrinth-dark-crystal/285152 would be one.

So if the movies are on the same disc it counts as one, and if they are on separate discs (like Star Wars trilogy) they count as three. And 1 stat per season of TV show. Right. I'll count mine soon. icon_razz.gif

for me, it's not so much about the discs, but the cases.

SW - at least the boxset i have - has a seperate, standard DVD case for each film, which is packed into a cardboard slip case. i count this as 3 titles, instead of 1.
however i don't count the release with the 1997 SE and the 1977/80/83 original theatricals as 6 titles, just 3.

but something like the Alien Quadrilogy boxset comes like this:

which, for me, counts as a single title - not 4 titles.

however - the Alien Legacy boxset:

counts as 4, because there are 4 cases. (and yeah - i have both of these boxsets - i actually also have the Alien Anthology boxset too, but this is Blu-Ray... and is only 1 title... icon_razz.gif)

yeah - like i said, i'm weird.
most of my DVDs are shelves sans carboard boxes if i can, so that way it kinda makes sense... to me anyway... and that's all that matters.

/OCD

(edit - woops, didn't realise the size of that image... new one found...)
