Of course, I'm just being flippant with directness of the relationship between regions and prices.
I just wish people would stop whinging and bitching about the relation between US pricing and us, because it doesn't work like that anymore. Get with the times. Incidentally, we're actually cheaper than Europe at the moment, so it's not all doom and gloom. And importing is easier than ever, so at least you have the choice. _________________

Look forward to interviews with NAL on this one. At any rate, I don't see how that would affect SpotPass, which is 3DS to 3DS - ie no servers involved. |
The e-shop isn't launching until may in japan so I doubt we'll see anything in our backwater for some time yet, regardless of Nintendo's other online plans.

You're clearly not familiar with the way hype is generated in the 21st century. First, you announce you're making an announcement. Then you make said announcement. And then, when it looks like the media attention is starting to die down, you issue another press release and start the party all over again. _________________

I'm finding it to have the opposite of their intended effect. Instead of a gilded egg filled with stardust I'm seeing half a plastic sandwich filled with egg and methane. _________________ I make videos of varying hilarity

Price point is pretty good, at least better than I was expecting, but I still have to see the thing in action before I work out how much I want it. I think I'll also wait for some sort of bundle deal. Fuck paying $350 and not even getting a game.

I, like many others, paid ~$900 for a PS3, and that didn't come with a game. What's your point? _________________

Buying at release is always a ripoff, and we're talking about a Nintendo product here... you'd be stupid to expect anything else. _________________

No its not. It's the week after launch that's a rip off. Whenever a new game or system is released, its always on sale during the first week. Count on BigW, Kmart, Target etc having it on sale on launch. _________________

^Still a rip-off. It should probably be about 300, even then, it's fairly expensive, but it is an new product, you can't expect it to be cheap.
I can't think of anything new, be it TV's, Kitchen appliances or computers, that starts at an RRP that is a reasonable price. The quicker you want it, the more you'll pay. _________________ "If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving is not for you."

Prolly because you got some some of Backwards compatibility?
I bought a Wii at launch, and up until just about a year ago I got a better deal than you could get. (5 games + additional wiimote) _________________ MY SIGNATURE IS WRONG!

Ha, Of course buying a new console at launch is going to be a premium.
Millions of ppl get ripped off by apple everyday. It's business, supply and demand.
$350 is solid for mind. I'm very happy with that price and getting it day one. Hopefully the games (first party anway) remain close to the DS prices.
You guys are all forgetting about inflation as well. If you factor the DS price into that (when it launched), it really doesn't look that bad.
But importing with a Nintendo product (region locked) is certainly a VERY attractive option considering the horror that is the Australian release dates. Problem with that for me is your limited to having to sell the game on ebay/forums instead of using attractive trade deals. Since I don't pirate, unlike a boatload of Nintendo gamers, importing is rather frustrating for me in that sense. _________________ Shin J Leon.

In 5 years inflation ain't turning $200 into $350!
The value of tech decreases, except in Nintendoland. The DS is STILL $200, so it's probably the only consumer electronics ever that was worth more at launch than 5 years later: paying $200 for that tech is a gross rip-off.
But it at least fools people into thinking a $350 handheld gamecube in 2011 is a great deal.
$299 would have made sense to me, and I think it will be that by Christmas. _________________ I make videos of varying hilarity

If it sells it wont drop. This is Nintendo. They dont like dropping prices when they're making a ton of money. Unless the 3DS is bomba, or the PSP2 launches at a competitive price, it wont drop by Christmas.
This is the thing with Ninendo systems lately; if they're selling they wont drop. Its one thing to say "Im going to wait 6 - 12 months for the first price drop", but its not really guarentied. If the 3DS launches hard out the gate, and the PSP2 is priced notably higher, I wont be surprised if the Christmas 2011 price is the exact same as launch.
The only thing we'll get are some bundles, maybe. _________________

That's exactly right. The DS and Wii have certainly taught us that Nintendo consoles are very slow to receive price cuts. The Wii didn't get its first price drop until September of 2009! So, nearly three years of waiting since the console's launch. I wouldn't expect a 3DS price drop until at least this time next year. _________________

No company on the planet would drop a hot item in the first year. Are you nuts? The only way it will be $300 at xmas is if it flops. Is that going to happen? No.
Lately? Nintendo have always been expensive. Hell, I remember my horrified parents shelling out for the NES when I was 7 or something (it was great mind you!). Games back then were $120. $120 20 years ago. That's SOOOO expensive.
Sersiouly, $350 is a reasonable price. From what I have seen it's more powerful then the Gamecube as well. Plus the PSP2 will be at least $600. I think it will be closer to $1k personally here. Sony ain't got no love for the Aussie $ either. _________________ Shin J Leon.

That's part of it.
It was also the first time I ever played online.
It's also cool to have what most don't have yet.I was the 3rd person in this town to get the PS3.
Resistance was awesome.

Nintendo Australia have failed again. That's a no sale for me. This hurt I feel goes much deeper than this launch alone.. but it drives the dagger deeper in. Nintendo Australia have continued to price gouge and failed to deliver on promises (both in terms of not price gouging and other matters) over the last few years.
I can live without this handheld and once the launch hype has died down it will be like it never happened. _________________

Buy it from UK/EU/AUS, because it doesn't matter, its the same price basically.
Buy import UK games for $50, and they will inevitably be cheaper than US imports.
Thats what im gonna do.
