Mmm, $50 less than the expected RRP...
At $400 I was like no way.
At $350, I'll easily fit it on my $480 gift card and have room for a couple of games...
Sold, though I'll prolly regret not importing come the US getting releases months ahead of us, but then the same could be said vice versa, but at least I won't have to wait for shipping and could pricematch and buy games at work...
UK gets same region as us yeah? If so I guess we can still import cheap from UK sites too... _________________

Hmmm well that's one less question I'll have to ask in a couple weeks at the press event.
Still I'm gonna make sure to ask as many things as I can.
Already pre-ordered anyhow.

Yeah you can still import from the UK.
I think I'll be importing a few games from ozgameshop.
Now all I have to wait for is a shop to do some bundle with something that I would actually play. _________________ "If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving is not for you."

The regionlocking was a dealbreaker on this one. I still feel their excuse of regionlocking because of online store ratings was feeble (I'm not sure if they've updated that excuse), and I certainly can't afford to buy a Japanese 3DS and an Australian one just so I can still play Japan-only releases. I'm still living in hope that Nintendo will pull their fingers out and make the second generation 3DS region-free, although I guess there's no reason for them to do so if this one sells well. Until that one is announced, I certainly won't be getting a 3DS, and if it does turn out to be regionlocked I'll be importing it from the US since we get screwed over so much on releases here - it's not even just about price anymore. _________________

Hate to break your hopes, but I believe that they can't do that due to contractual obligations to the publishers.
Anyway, who's importing their 3DS? And where from? My US one is pre-ordered and paid off in full. _________________

That's worse than I thought! Do you have any more information on it? _________________

Esposch, I'm about to pre order a NA version. I was waiting on the final pricing. $350 is too much especially when the games will most likely be around about the $80 mark.

Nope, but I believe that's a response I got when researching the topic a while back. It was either from NoA support or a random forum. Makes sense if you think about it; the PS3 is region locked for PS1 games after all, despite Sony going region free.

Gamestop in Brownsville, Texas.

Not too bad of a price I guess, I may just pick it up around launch with discounts (staff discount + bonuses) at various places... bringing it down to around $300.

In regards to the SpotPass, I think what they probably mean is the picking up free Wi-Fi. I'm pretty sure you'll still be able to go online with your own Wi-Fi connection at home to use the eShop and what have you. Or at least you better be able to. Look forward to interviews with NAL on this one. At any rate, I don't see how that would affect SpotPass, which is 3DS to 3DS - ie no servers involved.

They held an event... it's out in less than two months, and they don't even know what the launch games are?
Why not just send an email if all you've got is a price and date? Did they say what colour it will be? Seriously, they said nothing about the eshop?
What a nonevent! _________________ I make videos of varying hilarity

Black and blue for the Aussie launch, same as the rest of the world. Launch titles, I guess, are due to Nintendo still working it out. Im pretty sure the US still hasn't gotten a confirmed launch list either. _________________

It's like buying a car with no wheels. You can have all the features, you just can't use it.

Disgrace! Shameful!
Big fan of Ninty for all they have done for the industry but this is ludicrous!
For many year Aussies have had to pay more due to the weaker AU dollar to the US. Yet we still have to pay more despite being on par for a while.
AU300 would have been a perfect price point considering VAT and all. But a 100 mark up! Plus you will need at least one game, meaning more than AU400 for a handheld! No way!

The US dollar compared to the AU dollar has literally no impact what-so-ever on the pricing of any product ever, especially not on a product coming from Japan.
Its annoying but its a hollow argument. The AU could be worth double the US and it still wouldn't mean shit. _________________

Pricing is determined by Europe these days, not the US. In terms of Nintendo distribution, Australia is lopped in with Europe these days. _________________

Indeed, but it goes deeper than that. Regional pricing is much more about the local dollar's perceived value relative to the local market, as well as its relationship with the parent company (in this case, Yen). It's also about predicting the future of that local market, the dollar, and its perceived value, and again its relativity to the parent company's regional value in the future. Its never as simple as a direct conversion, especially not US->AU, and it never will be (unless we end up with some weird, terrifying unified future currency).
It would be nice if it was, but its not, and that's what importing is for. _________________
