You sure you've been playing it right?
I'm only up to chapter 5 on survivalist difficulty, but already I've managed to buy the javelin gun, pulse rifle, line gun and the ripper, and have upgraded the suit to the security suit, with enough money left over to buy 2 power nodes at this point.
I don't see why the stasis even needs to be upgraded at all, you only really need it to slow down doors/fans to advance to the next area and the stasis is more than powerful enough for this from the beginning. I didn't upgrade stasis at all in the original, and can't see why it needs to be upgraded here, except possibly for a hardcore playthrough. There's plenty of recharge stations too, all stasis item pickups I just sell at the next store.

God dammit. My plan was to buy the Xbox 360 version (I very muchly prefer the controller, and I played the first on Xbox) and then borrow the PS3 version and commit said act. Apparently you can buy Extraction from PSN though, so that might be the way to go. |
Extraction costs $23.95 from the PSN. |
Crud....Guess this means I have to buy it.....But I'm saving $24 so what the hey? _________________

I spend all my money on nodes. Weapons are cheaper than nodes. A weapon can be 8k but the nodes are 10k.
Statsis is great and it gets really useful later on. You power it up, you can save ammo by punching monsters to death. and yeah, I sell all stasis charge packs too.
Thing is you bought the security suit. I bypassed that and played til much much later when I got the 2nd suit to save money. And it wasn't cheap too.
I probably have a bit more money lying around as I transffered all non-used ammos for the guns I don't use to the Store instead of selling them. I guess the main reason why I don't buy more guns is because I don't have enough nodes to power a variety of weapons.
scrimper.
still.. guess the great thing here is that the game facilitates different play styles. _________________

I only carry the Plasma Cutter and Force Gun and store (or sell) everything else. I spend all my money on Power Nodes. Started on Zealot and it’s been good up until somewhere in chapter 5...
SPOILERSThe part where you’re first introduced to the fatties – who are fine, but the enemy with 2 arms and a tail are a joke! Seriously, these guys can kill you in the blink of an eye. One is fine, but a group is very bad news. They can pretty much shrug off a fully powered Plasma blast and with 3-4 on screen at the same time, things become annoying fast.END SPOILERS.
I actually love stasis but agree the refill canisters are useless, as it manually refills after a certain period. I’ve upgraded the duration twice and it’s noticeable, which is good for packs or heated battles.
Never thought they could up the atmosphere of the first, but they’ve done an awesome job. The definition of survival horror. I only play this with the lights off and sound cranked and gotta say, most of the time it’s pretty tense. I’m in the same boat as those who can’t play it for very long – a couple of hours max per sitting, I’d say. Very draining experience. That or it’s the 40+ degree days.
The only gripes I have are those little claw kids disappearing before you get a chance to loot ‘em. No map, as I like a physical map, with colourised areas for where I have and haven’t been. And finally, some of the checkpoints need to be closer, especially when tedium is involved. Oh, and day-one DLC.
But with that said, the game is as close to perfect as you can get. So worth the wait.

@THEMAN, I never seemed to have a problem with money... the game kept throwing money at me like no tomorrow, and in the end, it was ammo that I needed! Though I like the point you make about the choice the game allows you in play style. Sure, it may be a 'linear' game, but this is the kind of choice I like in a game.
@Bloody Tears, you're crazy starting on Zealot I might hit it up one day after I've done some more upgrading. Oh, and if you think those guys are bad... Just wait till chapter 9 & 10 _________________

The last two chapters are fairly aggravating and any finesse the game's combat system may have had goes completely out the window. Worse, the final boss is simply laughable and not a patch on Dead Space's towering monstrosity of an antagonist.
Dead Space 2 is a great game, and maybe a little better than the first - but it has really disappointed me.

Just finished chapter 6. The game is magnificent.
However, at this point, I wouldn't hold it above original. I think they are both equally brillant but different.
I'm looking forward to finishing the game and reading all the spoilers. _________________ Shin J Leon.

This game is nasty!
The original ended up being a grind for me as I played on hard from the get go. Didnt make the same mistake but the normal mode is still a challenge.
This game is unforgiving!
My primary weapon once again is the Ripper. Its the best at close range and when cornered.
This game just raises the amount of scary moments from original. Its definitely scarier than the first.
And the game throws some humour at the player as well. Like "The Clogger"'s text file. That was hilarious!
Dead Space 2 just as great as the first!

^ Interesting, i've heard a lot of people say its scarier than the first game... I've personally got to disagree there. I thought the first game was way scarier.
I wish I played in a harder difficulty I found the game pretty easy the whole way through. I primarily used the force gun, which I found to be way overpowered.
I get the feeling this is going to come down to a similar argument of whether or not the classic or modern resident evil games are better. _________________ http://bencadphotography.com/

Started the game today and made my way to the beginning of the 7th chapter. I feel like while they've varied up the way they deliver scares in DS2, there is much less tension here compared to being in the Ishimura. Being able to rave is pretty cool too. _________________

I honestly Extraction was better than the first Dead Space itself.
Been playing multiplayer. It's been amusing so far but stasis is a real pain in the ass if you're a necromorph. _________________

I am now up to chapter 13. I'll post my thoughts once I've completed. It is very solid stuff though.
How long is Extraction? I'm thinking of giving it a play after this with Move, but if it too long for a rail shooter I may give it a pass because of all of the other current games I have to play such as Castlevania, MvC3 etc. _________________

I'm up to chapter 3 in Dead Space: Extraction already.....Yeah it's definitely not as good as DS1, but it's damn good. The First chapter blew me away. Not scary at all though, but very frustrating......I actually died the second I beat a chapter with one shot left in my gun. But it still said chapter complete anyways!
I'm playing it with a PS controller, but with the Move this game would be great! _________________

Sweet just beat the main story.
I have to say that this game was such a fun ride. I did the whole thing on normal and by the last few chapters I was getting completely destroyed at every corner. I'd say that the scare factor certainly worn off by chapter 8 or so but still amazing none the less.
I would probably say that the sequel is a better game than the first. DS1 was a horror game with a bit of survival and action, but DS2 is certainly all survival and action with a bit of horror. I bothered getting the platinum in the first but this game is much, much more difficult so it is out of the question. The ending made me laugh too.
Good stuff. _________________

Well I just beat Chapter 1. Had a few jump moments already and so far it's pretty good! Already found like 4 nodes which is a nice change from my DS1 playthrough XD.
I agree, his face when he first gets the suit is lol. Glad I watched Aftermath before this! Only Dead Space thing I haven't touched is Ignition.....
I also had a few rounds of multiplayer.....Man being a Necromorph is tough!
Edit: This topic isn't as lively guess I hopped on the late boat.
Anyways just got up to chapter 6! Chapter 5 was EPIC and the scare factor has really kicked up a notch! _________________

FINISHED *SPOILERS*
end game talk/plot
Not sure looking at it now, what the overall storyarc is. so they used Issac to replicate the market (site 12) and well, Issac went to the end and killed the marker ghost/nicole... and got rescued. and there are more marker sites... hmm. Plot wise... it was a bit ... hmmm. But I thought the final chapters were very well told and yes, amusing bits.
DEADSPACE2 issac the everyguy
As we go through the game, issac here talks a lot and he's quite funny (can't help but think they went for drake.. with the everyday normal guy persona - especially during the uh bye bit to ellie He went from dummy to someone you kind of like. That's great for the franchise
Gameplay/combat
I enjoyed it til the final act where the unkillable thing showed up - after the eye puncture sequence where the action quickly fell apart and took on a somewhat manic clear out of this room by running/stasising enemies sequences. However, for the majority of the game, the combat was fun, and the stomping/TK uses were all good.
All up, really entertaining game and much better than game 1. I thought this was tenser, was more playable and graphically, a lot better. The flying bits were also really well done. If there's any addition to the game that made DS2 tactical and fun its the Ostriche beasts that would charge you. Very fun to kill Even really really appreciated the final boss fight which I thought was: A bit too easy with that charge gun but also really fitting
I actually think this is better than deadspace because they removed the map and made it mostly linear. I really didn't like running around the mess of a spacestation and using the map much. This one had an efficiency to the game. And some cleverness to the jumps and fakeouts. The final scene was ... amusing - especially if you played game 1.
I'll buy DEADSPACE 3..day 1
* got up add
Highlights
Elli losing her eye was sad and horrible
Eye drill sequence was pretty freaking amazing and horrible and laugh out loud disgusting LOL!
The visuals for the endboss fight was dreamlike and I thought
the departure to fight a boss in Issac's mind was great Also likes what happens on the menu page after you complete the game
Return to the Ishimura was bloody fantastic
Nicole fakeout. I'm evil. No. I'm good. RAAARRR I'm going to kill you.
Issac going FK YOU! FK YOU AND YOUR FKING MARKER was... man, I dig this protaganist.
As stated earlier, I played on survivalist and the later end of the game, surprising effective in being scary. Especially whehn you can die quite easily.
That said... i gotta say. The fact that loading in DS2 super super fast is the main reason why the game was as playable as it was. I don't think anyone would want to go back to DS after this. THe load times were almost 30+seconds _________________

just finished it, awesome game. Would say its more of an action shooter than a pure horror game but anyway, really gory and not that scary *(I would say intense).
I cant help but feel the main character is the result of intense marketing and demographic targeting. Its like, OK, who would be the most identifable character we can use for all the Male/White/15-25 year olds. Anyway, Uncharted and a lot of games give me the same feeling.
Anyway, great game. Story is like most games, a bit silly and rediculous but thats OK.
8.5/10 from me. Solid action game most people will enjoy. Intense not scary. _________________

Hey I just finished the game and I pretty much agree with everything you mentioned.
Spoilers
The Nicole fakeout really surprised me, I never saw the "actually, I'm really bad and just pretended to turn good halfway" and I thought it was a good twist!!
End boss fight was pretty atmospheric
I really felt for Elli losing her eye....Stross is such a freak, and the eye needle section is purely lol
Returning to Ishimura was pretty damn amazing and scary, seeing all those covered walls and with the vacuum cleaning machines humming in the background, plus listening to the audio logs of workers being scared to work on "this cursed ship".
At the very end, Isaac looks to his side, expecting to see a zombifid Nicole hallucination, but instead sees a normal Elie who says, "what?" is quite amusing lol!
End spoilers.
This game definitely did not disappoint, I thought it was as good as DS1. I played on survivalist and thought the amount of challenge was just right. Can't walk around spraying the crowd with ammo, but rather gotta be efficient and utilize stasis and TK impalments or explosive canisters. I also like shooting the head off explosive babies or cut the infected flesh off those kamikaze freaks and TK those into other necros to make an exploding mess which is super satisfying!

The action sequences are great and those logs belonging to the owner of the Solar Array....That's the stuff I like to read in horror games! _________________
