Look on the bright side, it's smaller than an XL.

I'm not looking forward to it being released at a 1k price point either.

But the xl was made afterwards and designed to be large.

This just is large. Though I'm sure a slim version will come out.

I really do think it's going to be a hard sell for Sony. Laugh at the iPhone/Touch and 3DS all you want, but they both fit a markets.

A mega handheld at a steep price with ported games certainly sounds like the PSP all over.

The best thing they could do is allow $1-10 apple/antriod games onto their store (with the touch screen). Give ppl the $1 apps/games for fun, on the run gaming then give them the full blown console experience for action around the home.

I was watching the Uncharted footage and was wondering how you would be able to play the game, using dual analogue sticks and two shoulder buttons. I then realised that the touch screen at the back could be used as additional buttons by the middle fingers that are just hanging back there. I'm not exactly sure if it would work physically since I'm too lazy to get up and see how far my middle fingers reach on my PSP but its a solid idea.

The system looks cool but as with every other system ever, it will live and die with its game library. The PSP gets way more shit than it deserves. It was beaten by the DS sure but it has still sold 65 million units, almost as many as the PS3 and 360 combined!

I'm in the 'do not want' catagory mostly because of the PSP, which is pretty much the only system ever (and the DSi if you count revisions) that I have no desire to ever buy. It has some good games, but the games I actually want are well into the lower end of single digits.

This looks exactly as I expected; insane power for a portable, and a demo reel composed of a lot of 'console' games made portable, just like the PSP was. Through and through, a true successor to the PSP2.

Looking at the demo reel, again nothing really interests me. Lots of games that will probably be flashy and fun, but not franchises I'm a huge fan of. Uncharted is about as good as it gets, but I can take or leave Killzone and Resistance.

What it will come down to is the price and the software support. Sony say it will be affordable, but the hardware there is some cutting edge stuff and I'm not confident they can follow through. I'm already on the fence with the 3DS because of its destined high price in Australia, and I expect the PSP2 to exceed whatever the 3DS does.

It sure does cost a lot to game these days icon_sad.gif.

console games made portable ? well in a sense it depends what your talking about , the gta games on the PSP were fun - looked better then there PS2 counter parts and had adhoc mutili - all good and fun untill GTAIV came out - iv sunk at least 400 hours in to adhoc on the PSP and well over 700 on PS3 , GOD OF WAR also looked good ( and played well) syphon fitler looked good but played err lets not talk about that , but yes your right besides that aside from rebirths and new IPs i cant think of much else - can you take me thro the list jarrod ?

Sony's PSP2 demo reel can be watched here.

I know the console-to-portable experience has its value, its just not what drives me towards portable games. Sony can show their Killzones and Uncharteds, but thinking back to the DS my favourite games are all shorter, portable focused games or graphic adventures, genres that are hard to find elsewhere. There are some console-tp-portable games I love, but they're not the reason I buy portable platforms.

Its kind of why I'm interested in Mercenaries over Revelations on the 3DS, even though Mercenaries is a cheap cash-in. It seems suited to the portable experience.

None seemed like 'cash-ins'. Most just didnt interest me enough to buy the system. I'm not a big GTA or God of War fan, so rule those games out. I can take or leave the Metal Gear series. Kingdom Hearts? No thanks. Similar thoughts for Monter Hunter, though I do enjoy the franchise. Lots of games that are good, but not games that make me want to buy the systme.

I dunno to me a psp just seems like a hand held playstation and I know what may interest some, but I would rather play ps3 games on a screen no less than 100 cm or so. A DS however has always seemed very different than say a wii. You find games you wont find on wii and fit the style of a handheld more.

I mean the best games on my iphone are games that are very very simple. they do not have to have the best graphics. It also seems that sony did what they seem to be doing lately and thats doing what nintendo has already done, just a bit better. Sadly they do it way too late.

I mean we are all kinda either over touch screens or have a number of them in our possession already. it will never have that same impact. i mean the 3ds will sell on the 3d aspect alone just because yet again like the wii its the first of its kind. Even though the psp2 (NGP or whatever is such try hard name imo) is very impressive and I would love to play my handheld game with great graphics I still think the 3ds will dominate just like it did the first time around. Nothing really has changed other than the fact that sony decided to add touch buttons on the back...really thats the best you could come up with in terms of originality lol

Multiple versions of the NGP will launch from late 2011, each with Wi-Fi capability. Only one, however, will also feature 3G.

I'll definitely be getting this over the 3DS. Seems like an iPad-competitor, which is fine with me as 'portable' gaming is almost completely restricted to home for me.

Disappointed. All of these features are going to jack up the price, which means lower install base, which means less developer support.

Which means the consumer will end up paying extra for useless features (3G, OLED, a god damn GPS) while important features (a wide variety of good games) get sidelined. Again.

When will Sony learn?

Yay! I'm wrong! There is a cheaper, more basic SKU. Hopefully this could sell cheaper and won't cause a repeat of what happened last time.

It's a stronger release than I thought Sony would put out but it still hangs on the games, Sony exclusives are nice but it's going to need some big third party support to seriously compete with the 3DS.

Possibly the first Sony handheld device I've given serious though to buying since the original release PSP so at least that's something Sony.

Sony's biggest problem is software, both as an interface and games.

They really need to lift their game if they are to compete with the iPad/Phone as a portable media device. The browswer on the PSP vs the iPhone is a perfect example.

If they were smart, they'd run andriod or some form of universal OS on the thing to make it compatible with a boatload of awesome apps.

Might interest some people icon_razz.gif

Anyway, I could see me maybe getting one of these one day, though I don't think I'd use it on, say, the train or something. Maybe in the car if I wasn't driving, but it seems like it'd be mostly used at home, and my iPod Touch when I'm out. But I'm interested to see more about it, it does look impressive.

It seems like it might end up having more games that I will like than the PSP, since it is supposed to be like a portable PS3.. But still I can't see myself getting one because I find using a handheld to be uncomfortable and because when I am out of the house the *last* thing I want to be doing is playing games, thats why I go out of the house in the first place!! For me gaming will always be what I do on my own in my relaxing time. I guess handheld gaming is just not for me.

I guess I will just get a PS3 when I finally get through all the games I have that I have yet to play on my PC!

Not sure why everyone's banging on about the size so much. Does anyone here honestly cram a DS Lite in their pocket? It's not trying to be a mobile phone, so it doesn't need to fit in your pocket.

If it's portable enough to chuck in satchel or backpack then it's portable.

However, more concerning is that this is looking like the PSP all over again. Overpowered and overpriced for its target market. I wouldn't be surprised to see it rolling down the same road its predecessor went down whilst competing with the DS.

I do like the rear touch pad though, it's like a touch screen but your fingers don't get in the way, I see some pretty nifty applications.
