It's the one thing preventing me from importing it... Hopefully I'll find it for a decent price at launch then if that's the case. _________________

It's only delayed in Germany by a week. Something to do with being able to kill your teammates in multiplayer. _________________

Just played the demo, really impressed. I missed the first game largely because I'm not a huge fan of horror based games, but that demo alone really got the blood pumping. Looks like I'm adding this to my list.

Awesome. So looking forward to this. Just playing through Ignition atm for back story.
There is a dvd/blu-ray coming like the first. Sadly it's not out until AFTER the game here -> http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/817230
Is crap because it's the backstory to the game. _________________ Shin J Leon.

I was planning on buying it as I bought the movie for the first game. However I've heard that although the first movie was passable, this one is terrible. _________________

Even if it's bad, I don't mind. I like the idea of a backstory to games. It was one of my favourite parts of the original, with the comics and anime movie. _________________ Shin J Leon.

So, time for some impressions I suppose?
Starting my first playthrough on the Survuvalist difficulty, and it's proving to be quite the challenge. Massive effort if anybody here ends up finishing a hardcore playthrough.
Really can't see why everyone is complaining about the game graphically on consoles, sure it's not going to be half as good as on PC, but it's still up there with some of the best looking multiplatform console titles. The whole introduction sequence was tops, and it does a great job of bringing you up to speed from the first story.
Sound-wise, everything is still there and then some, I'm finding it more tense than the first Dead Space for sure. I've made sure that I only play this game after midnight with the sound turned right up, definitely had a couple of jumps from bursting pipes and some necromorphs hiding underneath various objects in the game. And the crying babies and distant loud screams are eerily disturbing.
Which gets me to another thing I love about the game; the enemy 'spawn points.' Can't remember if this happened in the first game, but whenever you die and restart from the past checkpoint, the necromorphs find new ways to enter your area. I died with a necromorph bursting through a wall on the right, and when I restarted, they're jumping from the left and even through the roof. Keeps you right on your toes, and stops you from progessing quickly.
Character movement is quicker, but I still have trouble with the melee stomp to conserve ammo. 9 times out of 10 I get bitten after taking out their limbs and try to stomp on them to finish 'em off.
But the downside for me is that the game is basically Dead Space 1.5, there's a couple of new enemies, two or three new weapons and a couple of good set pieces for good measure, with some brilliant hallucinations. But everything else remains the same, right down to the weapon upgrade system. Probably a slight graphical improvement over the first for consoles.
Got a very 'Bioshock' feel to some of the settings as you progress a bit further. The game feels like a proper journey with no real break in the action or story, now that the end of each chapter doesn't take you towards a tram station.
But for any console players out there that are interested in this but hasn't played the first, I still recommend picking it up first, as you'll save yourself a heap of money for an extremely similar experience. Sure it has multiplayer, but I personally have no desire to play it based on character movement, and I'm assuming small corridor-style maps plucked out from the single player experience.
If there's any complaints from me, the game is way too dark in some areas. Combine this with a 'lockdown' section of the story, with very fast enemies moving towards you, it's quite difficult to locate and take them out. Even in rooms filled with candles it seems to be quite dark, and this is with the brightness turned up a fair bit beyond their recommendation.
Solid 8.5 from me, as it's more of a Dead Space 1.5 in my view, there's nothing remotely new here. Then again, there weren't many faults with the first game to really improve on and if you love the first you'll still fall in love with this one. Dead Space is one of the only games where I don't play anything else whilst getting through the story, it keeps me that iinterested.
tl:dr
great game, but there's nothing new. Dead Space 1.5

Seconded. Survivalist gets pretty dang hard about 2/3 into the game. And anyone who finishes hardcore deserves a medal. Still, if a completely upgraded character, it might be remotely doable.

You're never going to appeal to the PC graphics whores like that They're a stubbourn elitist bunch who prefer to watch their games rather than play Plus, they need to save the money by buying the PC version so that they can afford their next graphics card...

Nope, didn't happen in the original. And in most areas, there are about 2-3 spots where they'll pop out from.

I don't see this is a problem. It's always the case with sequels, how much change and refinement over retainment has to happen? As a continuation of the original, I don't see why similarity should be a problem. However, I can only say this because Dead Space 2 is done really well.

Actually, the multiplayer maps (five of them) are all seperate from the game, and aren't too narrow. It works ok and the net code is actually really good, but there isn't much to it. It's unlikely to have the legs... _________________

I'm sure this factor won't really matter to anybody else, it's just a personal pet peeve of mine. I stopped playing Bioshock 2 and Fallout:New Vegas (I know it's not a sequel) because of th similarities, and would've done the same for Gears of War if it wasn't for co-op.
In the first game, you were confined to the Ishimura. But here, you have a whole 'moon' of opportunity, so I felt they could've added a couple of new features/settings. But as you say, it's one of the only franchises where this is easily forgivable.

Or your next 360 when it RRODs, or PS3 with it YLODs or either when the drive fails

Check out the iPhone/Pad/Touch Dead Space game guys. It's REALLY polished and sets the story for Dead Space 2.
I'm blown away how well it a) looks and b) plays. Awesome stuff.
Picking up my copy of Dead Space 2 tonight! _________________ Shin J Leon.
