Was it confirmed Australia was being singled out from UK, etc. or is it all under PAL like the Wii?

If you import from the US, doesn't that mean you will also have to import every single game you want to play?

^Yes it does, and the only games you'll miss out on will be Japan only games.
Whereas we miss out on a bunch of other games as well.

As long as you don't mind waiting for your games it's a great thing. The games work out to be MUCH cheaper. Hell look at Pokemon Black/White, RRP of $69.95 here and a RRP of $34.99 in the US.

Well yeah, it would certainly be inconvenient if I was happened to see a bargain game at EB or something.

Also if this is only $250 US then I don't see why this should cost a cent over $300 AUD. Actually I think even $300 is too much but this is Nintendo we're talking about.

Nintendo don't work on that logic.

US price = Price in Euros (normally). So $250 USD = 250 Euros, which is then converted into AUD and a bit extra chucked on top for good measure.

So basically $350+.

I think the main problem will be the battery life being online 3-5 hours with 3d turned on. Then i hear people saying ohhh turn 3d off but that would defeat the purpose of it. Don't get me wrong tho i will be pre ordering one i just think its concerning is all...

You are probably right here. It feels as Nintendo only cares about the bigger markets (the US) while little Australia gets screwed again.

The US price relative to the AU dollar doesn't really matter, because Nintendo are a Japanese company. What matters is the strength of the yen relative to the local dollar and what Nintendo feel they need to charge to make a substantial profit. The economic market is quite different to what it once was.

But if the AUD and USD were about the same, shouldn't they be about the same relative to the Yen?

Well, of course, it probably isn't that simple.

EDIT: Re-reading Jarrod's post I understand now, nevermind the question.

EDIT 2: A quick checking of currency conversion puts 25,00 yen to about 302 USD and 305 AUD. So I'm going to ask: Why does the US get it cheaper? Do they take $50 off the american price and add it to the Australian price?

EDIT 3: It turns out that it is a general PAL lock, so i'll be happy enough to buy an Australian 3DS and import from the UK if Australia never gets a game.

Depends how Nintendo choses to handle the pricing. Its a mess in Europe, as retailers are allowed to charge whatever they want. Im not saying it right, just that the performance of the US dollar to Australia doesn't really factor in to the local pricing, even if it turns out bad for us. What matters is the Yen, and what profit Nintendo think they can make, and how they predict the market for the future. Its still quite highly priced in the US, after all.

Anyway, Nintendo World Report have a montage of off-screen footage from various games from the event. Check it.

But if the DS is anything to go by, the US will get more releases than UK/Europe. There's no reason a game released in the UK/ Europe shouldn't be released in Australia, except for ratings, therefore if it's released in Europe it invariably gets released here, too (usually). The same can't be said for the US, because while they already have an English translation, they don't have a PAL english translation. Unless there's a PAL english translation, it won't see release here. You can probably import it from Japan, but it will be in Japanese (duh).

EDIT: AHHH! Seeing Link's Awakening (and in full colour!) in that video makes me want to play it. Looks like the GameBoy Colour version, I've only played the original game.

That's cause it IS the gameboy colour version. Links awakening DX for GBC is the first GBC title as Mario is the first GB title. I do hope oracle of ages/seasons get's released. I loved those games.

That dinosaur game looks freaking awesome, as does Street Fighter. Although I hope it doesn't use the ********* mash the touch screen to fight like Tekken or whatever the Hell it was because that looked like a terrible way to play.

I also really hated the GB games being played on it, complete waste of the system in my opinion.

I 100% agree with you Sin it was dead or alive i am pretty sure, it looked like a really really cheap way to play. My god that old mario game brings back so many good memories also that pilot wings really looks like a fun and relaxing game to play sort of like flower icon_biggrin.gif.

EDIT: Also thanks Jarrod for that video! Really awesome footage

EDITx2: Are they going to bring a extensive range of GB and GBC on the store or would it just be mainly nintendo titles like mario and so on?

Hey guise? Un-bunch your short-shorts, pretty sure that was simply a handily accessible moveset found in practise mode.

^It was "Simple Mode" or something like that. I heard in a video that the guy said when you went online you can choose between simple mode and pro mode. pro mode being the mode where there aren't any touch auto combos on the bottom screen.

Also i'm guessing the VC would be something akin to the current one for the wii. but with only 2 consoles, it should be a greater catalogue.

Does not compute.

Plus, it's unlikely that they'll stick with just GB/GBC. It would be foolish (and defy logic) not to add GBA games to the store, and maybe in the future DS games could be added too.

Since there are only 2 consoles they'll have to release a larger number of games on each to make up the numbers. Whereas currently they can release a smaller number of games spread out over numerous consoles.

At least that is what I think plasma meant.

It is what I meant, and I didn't mean to be all a good thing. We'll get more games on the consoles, but less consoles In comparison to the Wii's VC.

The 3DS should also be compatible with GBA and that sega handheld. It should also be able to do NES and SNES. But we'll have to wait. Hopefully they increase the amount of consoles. Especially GBA.

I'd be happier if they support it better to begin with, that's all I ask. The VC on Wii had so much potential, then died off too quickly. The only good thing to come of it were the Japan months, releasing games previously unreleased outside the country like Sin and Punishment was a great idea.

So they've confirmed Zelda and Kid Icarus won't be released within the launch window, which to be honest makes sense, why release everything early then not have anything left at the end of the year.

Looks like Street Fighter and Pilotwings will be my first two purchases.
