Hello all. I'm flying down to Melbourne on Thursday to finish enrolment for uni & to say hello (again) to the city I will be now living in.

I will be staying over the weekend so I have a question; what exactly is their to do in Melbourne? I am over 18, so anything goes. And I like meat.

I have been down once before, but I didn't get much time in the CBD. Anything would be appreciated.

Any particular interests? Sports, music, food etc.

If you like meat (assuming this is not a euphemism) then you should check out some of the places on Lygon Street. Trotters usually has a good meaty menu (although I havn't been there for a while), and Jimmy Watsons (across the street from trotters) serves $12 bottles Dry & Dry, a delicious drink on a hot day. Also the Lygon Food Store has a great selection of cured lunch meats. They will make you a fresh sanga for about $8-$9 and it will be meaty and awesome.

And after this it is a short walk to either The Nova cinema for an arthouse flick, or to IMAX for a 3D blockbuster.

Which uni are you going to? Lygon street is right near Melb Uni, but along way from Monash.

Tjunabi on Lygon is awesome for food (Aussie game meats).

If you want to "meet" then we can certainly organise something, I'm always up for it (though I'm working Friday night in Werribee and gigging it on Saturday night, Twelve Foot Ninja, you should come, get some Melbourne rock up ya).

Misty's is right around the corner from my work. I'd eat there every day if it wasn't so expensive.

Also the Australian Open is on in Melbourne this weekend if you like tennis.

CBD has venues everywhere. There's no shortage of things to do.

Cheers guys. I'm not much of a tennis fan myself. I am going to Monash, but I'll be living with my aunt & uncle out east in Surry Hills.

I like Meat & Meet. A meet-up could certainly be done once I make the big move down. Cheers for the 'Meat' places though. I'll end up going out during the day on the weekend, so I could probably sort something out if anyone was free in the day. I'll suss out the food places for sure.

Maybe go to the Eureka skydeck if you like scenic stuff... Dungeon Crawl is pretty good but not as cheap as here. Lygon Street as mentioned is excellent for food! DFO for shopping, Swanston Street E Games

Surrey Hills? Oh man I feel bad for you.

There's quite a few good nightclubs around, along with some good places with live music. Not sure if you're interested in that.

Apparently Melbourne is the best place for shopping in Australia.

What is wrong with SH? I've only been through there briefly myself, but it looked nice enough. (Bear in mind I'm from NSW & I've spent more than enough time in Sydney). By Sydney standards, it seemed nice relative to it's distance from the CBD.

I might give the clubs a look. Depends on what my established friends in Melbourne are doing. I am very intrigued with the Live scene, I will definitely keep my eye on it.

It's hard to explain, I think you'll figure it out once you're there icon_lol.gif .

Check out the Corner Hotel in Richmond, some good up and coming bands have played there and tickets are usually alright. Check it now, some of those prices are crazy. Also in the city there's Billboard, has more well known bands playing.

Good luck.

Tooki, don't listen to him, Surry Hills is a perfectly fine suburb. It's not like your moving to Croydon.... or Frankston icon_lol.gif

I used to live out east too, and there is some good stuff in Camberwell, which is close to SH. Check out the Rivoli cinema and the eateries on Burke Rd near teh station. Also the pubs on Glenferrie Rd (ie. The Glenferrie hotel, the Hawthorne Hotel and surrounds) have a pretty big uni crowd.... well they used to, I havn't been there in years.

EDIT: Also, go to box hill for some good cheap Vietnamese food, Chinese food and LAN cafes. There is a good rock climbing gym in nunawading. If you like shopping Whitehorse rd between Box Hill and Nunawading has all the big stores; good guys, JB, etc.

I don't get his criticism. It's really nice here, reminds me of the north shore in Sydney.

Looks like I'm busy tomorrow night, but I shouk be in the city over the weekend.
