Its coming...I hope it will be as exciting as original FFXIII...
| Quote: | | To date the only Final Fantasy game to be a direct, numbered sequel to a prior installment was Final Fantasy X-2. This may soon become more than just a single anomaly, though, as Square Enix has registered a web domain for Final Fantasy XIII-2. The domain registration, like all domain registrations in the gaming industry, was spotted by Supererogatory. It's specifically for "finalfantasy13-2game.com," and was made by a company that has registered website domains for Square Enix in the past. There is of course always the chance that Square Enix is nabbing the domain simply to protect it, though, so this isn't exactly official confirmation of a new game yet. |

I wouldn't go as far as saying that it's coming, but certainly SE seem to be thinking about it. As for me, I would actually like to see it happen. The last time they made a -2 game, it became my favorite FF game. If they could improve/build on the great foundation that FFXIII set up, then it could be awesome. _________________

Actually, they would. It happens all the time, companies reserve domain names that they never end up using. They're just planning ahead. In SE's case, to make sure a fan site doesn't take it or something. _________________

I thought I was the only one that didn't hate that game with a seething rage. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's my favorite FF game (that would be 8) but it's definitely up there.
That said though, I haven't played too many and never finished any due to a very short attention span, so my opinion is a little moot to begin with _________________

I manage to grab this old news
and I | Quote: | In a recent chat with Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Motomu Toriyama, the two say that they would be very much interested in creating a sequel to the recently released Final Fantasy XIII.
So will there be a Final Fantasy XIII-2?
The two men answered: “That depends on how well the game sells in the West!” “In the past three years we worked both on the world and on the various systems. Creating these systems isn’t very glamorous and can frankly be a bit boring. If we could do a XIII-2, we could direct all our attention to the story and refine what we have already built.”
They also touched on the game’s nontraditional approach.
“We hope [players] will be engaged by the graphics and the story. We realize this means some of our fans, who like the more traditional games, might be disappointed in some ways. But we hope they will take this journey with us. If we keep creating traditional games, we stand still, and we want to make steps forward.”
|
It could be possibility that the game could be a side-project or casual-style game for iOS systems (iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad) or a downloadable title for Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, WiiWare or Steam; of course this is all speculation. But given how easy it is to make a smaller sequel for a downloadable platform, it’s a definite possibility. _________________ Play-Asia Affiliate Link For Gaming Bargain

And they did sell the 6 million units they intended to sell, so that supports the possibility of the sequel being made. I still wouldn't say it's 100% certain, but it seems quite likely now. I'm feeling optimistic about this, so hopefully they'll go through with it. *crosses fingers*

I hope they can make 3D towns for the sequel. I gotta say FFXIII really tarnished the brand for me. So many things they did wrong.
Hopefully it will give you control back in battles too. _________________

Initially I didn't mind that FFXIII had no towns, however, it was only after playing it for quite some time that I realised I wanted *somewhere* like a town to stop off and relax. Even if it was like the Nexus in Demons Souls, I needed somewhere to call home and chat with other NPCs.

It definitely fatigued me sooner than the other FFs (in other words, could only play in hour bursts). The battle system was fine but I always felt like something was missing.
Anyway if X-2 is anything to go by then it's gameplay will be completely different... and lightning will be super happy and vanille will be replaced by someone that looks exactly like her... but isn't.
Wata has said he wants a major FF every two years, and he wants people to trust the name again. That has to be good news.
Anyway we will find out on the 18th of Jan.

I too felt the same way as UWSguy, that I felt something was missing in the battle system. FFXIII i feel is all to serious for me and lacks things that are unique to each character. Sure they all have unique moves in the end, but it is too bland and serious.
Things like stealing, abilities like "eating" and learning skills, throwing coins/treasure boxes, rolling a jackpot, mimic etc. I know these are past FF examples, and I am not complaining they aren't there. My point is all these abilities can allow the battles be a little more fun when the player chooses to, esp. on normal encounters.
I do enjoy the FFXIII system, but there isn't much room to make it fun or have a lauff. It is kindof all serious to me. _________________ 「貧乳はステータスだ!希少価値だ!」 - 泉 こなた

I think they could easily work some fun stuff into FFXIII's battle system. Joke paradigms, a humorous class that unlocks by completing an optional sidequest, monster catching and taming. The reason why FFXIII's battle system is so straight-laced is because the story is especially serious this time around. I think they wanted to make the battle system match the tone of the game. FFXIII-2 could certainly end up being a less serious game, just as FFX-2 was (though not quite to that extent perhaps). There's all sorts of things they could do with FFXIII-2, it could even be a prequel story. _________________

props. X-2 was hammy but the combat and dress sphere made for a fun time. I wouldn't call it one of my favourites but its a great FF game if you can look past the girliness. Man, I should hook up the PS2 and play this again. Never finished it because my team wasn't levelled enough to beat the final boss _________________

I actually just came to a realization. It's purely speculation but from a marketing perspective it would make most sense for FFXIII-2 to be released before Versus.
At the moment fans have a lot of love for the current set of characters however if a new bunch were released fans may not be as interested in going back to XIII. That isn't to say it wouldn't sell like crazy, it just might not sell AS crazy. For example while a lot of people would jump on board for a game staring Waka or Balthier, a lot more people would jump on board for a game with Snow or Fang.
Just speculation, and there is really not much doubt in my brain that Versus will come out before XIII-2 (if it exists) but yeah it seems like releasing XIII-2 first would maximize their profits for the game... unless XIII is remembered as fondly as VII at which case they could push out sequels ten years after it was released.

I would enjoy this, the in game universe was interesting.
Read a official short story set after the game. Spoilers.
Sazh aids the refugees with Hope.
Hope goes off to find his dad later.
Serah wants to become a teacher and start a community with Snow and Light.
Light leaves Serah and Snow to find a way to get Fang and Vanille out of their crystals. This affects Serah terribly seeing as Light didn't inform anyone.
Light finds herself in mystery world only driven by the will to go forward.

^ Oh, there's an epilogue episode too? I'm still reading through Episode Zero, which is a prologue to the game. It's on that same site, but I somehow overlooked the epilogue. Looks like I've got more reading to do... xD

As long as FF13 explains more about the game setting's mythos then I'm happy. Like, who was the goddess and why did she leave? If stuff like that is answered then this can turn out really well. _________________

That's exactly what I'm hoping for. The Datalog Analects were very vague about FFXIII's mythos, yet it's still quite an important part of the story. I'd definitely like to see them expand on this in the sequel.

I said this on the news story, but I was pretty happy with how the story wound up in FFXIII. I'm sure they'll think of something, but I was happy to leave it with that.
I enjoyed FFX-2 more than FFX, so I'm keen on this.
