|
|
|

OK, so this is probably stupid to do, yes. But come mid February, my friend and I are doing what we've wanted to do for over a year - eat one kilogram of potato chips in one day amidst gaming and watching movies.
Now, me being a former accountant, and almost finishing my property degree; and him almost finishing his diploma in computer programming, we're not exactly the healthy type in terms of excercise, going to the gym, and knowing or caring what is good for us or not . We're both blessed with great metabolisms and love our Chips and Shapes as much as the next person.
However, me being a year and a half older than he, and somewhat wiser, I'm wondering how damaging this will be to our health? I'm asking if those people with some medical knowledge and who post in the Gym/Losing Weight thread could give me some insight as to what I'm walking into here? I'll be drinking water, and for the record, thats 4 of those big 250g packets - between 300 to 500 grams of fat total.
Should I prepare for cholestoral problems or something? Possible heart attack? Too much salt in the system will do something?
Thanks for any input guys _________________

Keeping up the water will help as the salt you will be taking in will be far to great for what the body would like, so it will be trying to pass it out through your urine.
One problem arising from that could be kidney stones.
In much the same way, your body will pass most of the fat out as it is too great for what it can process. I would suggest having some vegetables as well for fibre.
Most food related health problems (with the exception of bacteria/viruses/heavy metals) occur over a large period of bad eating.
This diet, even for one day would still not be recommended. If you are somewhat young, not overwieght and no history of heart problems, then you have the best chance of not having any problems. _________________ Games for Sale

Struth! Potatos is high-Gi and full of carbs, as in you could easily get type 2 diabetes if you not careful, especially if you have family history or high insulin resistance (do you do regular blood test?). And for females, infertility through PCOS which is irreversible.
Salt can dehydrate and increase blood pressure, that can cause headaches/dizziness etc. Too bad I don't know how much it requires so make sure you have some water/electrolytes.
Fat can block arteries which leads to heart attack, stroke etc. _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

Hey Matth3w, wouldn't it be much more fun if you tried it without knowing what the consequences will be?
Like when my friend had a mate over, gave him a laxative at the same time as an anti-laxative...guy ended up in hospital, cause he felt the extreme sickness of needing to desperately use the toilet, only to sit on the toilet unable to do anything hahaha
Stupid yeah, but a great laughing story for all the friends lol

If you're going to do it, try to eat a brand with less saturated fats and more monosaturated fats in them which are healthier. Your heart will thank you for it.

So are many young people - don't get too attached to your great metabolism, it will go soon and never return.
Somewhat back to the topic - why would you want to do such a thing? What exactly would you get out of such an experience?
All that sodium will be bad for your blood pressure. Possibly not in the short term, but given your back story on health, it sounds like you take a lot for granted already. But then it is your life, your free to do what you want... *shrug*

Forgot to mention for dehydration, if water doesn't work, try a banana. It helps boost up potassium levels in the body to balance out excessive sodium levels and also potassium will help reduce kidney stones chances of kidney stones. I find myself having banana shakes after having japanese when heaps of water failed to hydrate me. _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

Heh, I'm gonna be so screwed when that happens. I'm like 6'1 and have been 55 kilos for years, and no matter how much I eat I never gain weight, which is quite annoying, but gonna suck when my metabolism starts to go :\

heh, sounds fun.
when i graduated my uni course, we celebrated by trying the KFC-Crown Challenge.
that's 1 Bucket of KFC, 1 Carton of Crown Lager, and 24 hours to finish them in.
it's much harder than it sounds... _________________

1 bucket of KFC huh? Is that a variety bucket, or 24 pieces of chicken bucket?
If Obsolete survived that, maybe this is easy street? _________________

I think the challenge here is whether or not you can actually keep it down after the first packet.

24 piece bucket - we could mix and match original and/or H&S if we wanted.
i think 7 of us competed that year - and none of us completed. it's funny, it sounds like a lot, but also doesn't sound that hard at the same time, but when you actually try it - it's an insane amount. not just of food, but of liquid as well. i think that was where most of us fell down. one guy did knock off his 24 beers, but barely dented his chicken.
i had a solid go at both, but neither were finished entirely.
and i didn't have KFC for like 3 years afterwards... _________________

^ God the amount of oil you must have eaten from that chicken... every time I eat KFC I throw it back up =P
I will happily eat 1kg of chocolate in a sitting if I'm allowed to though. Same with cake and such. I've got a very sweet tooth, which isn't helped by my wife who loves to make desserts.
Not looking forward to the inevitable metabolism drop _________________
