Glad I got corrected on that cause I was way off! I haven't attempted it since RB1 on PS3 which didn't work but it's obviously been all good in every iteration since. I wonder if RB3 recognises the extra pad/pedal as far as pro drums goes (you can manually tell RB3 which drum add-ons you are using as far as I can see).

Okay, I just put down a deposit on my PS3 (picking it up next week!) so I have a quick question about disc imports. Can I import songs from NTSC discs into a PAL copy of RB3? (ie. if I grab RB/RB2 from the US, will I be able to import them into an RB3 I buy here?) _________________

That's a big no unfortunately. Strangely enough while the games themselves arent, the files that go on the hd (exports, dlc) are region coded. I've had RB1 and RB2 from US, RB1 and RB2 from UK and RB3 from Aus so I've been all over the joint as far as PS3 Rock Band is concerned and had to rebuy both discs and dlc once it got up and going well enough over here.
(and I swear I'm more confident about this than I was about the drums)

UK copies of RB1 and RB2 will be fine if you grab an Australian RB3.
PS3 games aren't region locked but you must have DLC (songs, addons, etc) from the same region as the disc _________________

Thanks guys. I knew DLC was region-locked but wasn't sure about disc imports, I'll stick to PAL games then _________________

Has anyone bought the RB3 Mad Catz non-pro guitar (the Strat)? Trying to decide whether I should grab two Logis (I know some people don't like Logis, but I do) or one of each for my PS3, and it looks pretty good. It has one five-star and one three-star review on Amazon. The only thing I'm worried about is that one of the reviews says the fret buttons are really squishy/don't depress much, and I like mine to give some feedback (hence my preference for GH guitars over RB ones so far). _________________

I'm pretty sure they're the same as the RB2 Strats according to some digging on forums- The RB2 Strats still have buttons that click, and the strumbar that's dampened by foam. The last time I checked though, the RB2 buttons feel different to RB1's, but I'm not sure in what capacity other than the general "improved" word. >_> _________________

Is that the 264 or whatever button one? I haven't. I personally love my logitech {besides the fact the orange button gets stuck down mid-song, breaking my combo }. TBH JA - I'd wait a few more months for the Squire. Try and perfect your keytar & buy a Logitech (or two) if you have to. |
Naw, it's the regular 5-button one.
Thanks Eyce! The reviews I could find said it was similar to the RB2 one but "improved" again, I don't think it's worth risking it if I haven't tried it and don't know anyone who has personally. I'll probably just grab Logis _________________

YES! Exciting! Is it time-limited (the free-ness)? Do I need to bother getting my PS3 out before I go away?
I doubt they're going to put out the other songs as a free pack, Matt - maybe paid. These are just the tracks from Harmonix bands they always said they'd release as a free pack. _________________

Hey guys and gals, quick n00b question which I’m sure has been answered somewhere in this topic –how do I go about importing my songs from RB1 and 2? Apparently the RB1 songs are already there if I paid for the import to 2, but the code on the back of the manual for RB3 doesn’t seem to work, saying something like it’s invalid. Both RB1 and 2 are from the UK but 3 is a US version. I’m on the 360 by the way. I’ve checked here: http://rockband.com/support/export-rock-band but it seems to be down for now. Anyone know what I need to do to get this to happen? Preferably answers not suggesting I pick up a UK or AU copy. Thanks in advance.
Oh and also, how do I select a created character if I’ve made more than 1? It seems to default me to the newest one created and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to pick another! Again, any help is appreciated.

I'm not sure about your first query, but to answer your second question:
at any menu (that is, any time except whilst playing a song) press START -> CHARACTERS. It will come up with a list, scroll up for your created ones from your file :)
EDIT: Is it just me, or have Harmonix got rid of Competitive modes? I was going to verse someone last night, but we couldn't find the Competitive modes anywhere! _________________

Cheers man, you’re a legend! Can’t believe I didn’t see that
Well apparently that page is now up! Ok, so I tried redeeming the code again today and got “This offer is not yet available. Try redeeming this token later.” Also tried it from the dash (like suggested in the article) but it’s only 16 digits and didn’t work. Sigh. Shot an email to support which i hope gets a reply...

ah, yeah....it's the code on the back of the rb2 manual you want, not the rb3 one. That's why the offer isn't available at this time Mine is a uk copy.
Pretty sure i got it to work inside the game but i didn't have any credits at the time so i didn't follow through. _________________ kill, kill, kill.....the white man. Kill the white man, kill

Importing RB1 and RB2 songs requires you to have 400MSP for the RB1 export and 800MSP for the RB2 export.
For RB1, you need to fire up your RB1 disk, and go to Options->Export Songs. You don't need a code or anything for this, so if you've traded away your RB1 disk, just hire it or borrow it from a friend.
For the Rock Band 2 export, get the code from the back of your RB2 manual and go into Rock Band 3, go to the Redeem Code section of "Get More Songs". If the code doesn't fit, type as much of it as you can into the text box and it should export fine.
The RB3 code on the back is for future exporting usage. _________________

Yes, the competitive modes have been removed. No idea why, but they have.

They didn't have enough space on-disk to put them in again.
Adding in an extra audio stem for a majority of the songs + pro charts + fixed/upgraded DLC charts winded up making them cut the extra modes. _________________

That did the trick! Cheers guys. The code on the RB2 book is 25 characters, yet in RB3 there’s only room for 16. Entered the first 16 without spaces and it worked. Thanks again, much appreciated.
