Worth mentioning that when they say sold they mean to retail and not to consumers.

Quote:
Bloomber Tech Report Dina Bass got a clarification on the numbers from Microsoft by tweeting that, "Microsoft has clarified to me that the 8 million KInect number is sell in, or how many were shipped to retailers. Not sell thru." Microsoft told her that it "far surpassed" the previous 5 million sold thru but wouldn't give exact numbers. How close Greenberg's "essentially the same #" statement is to reality is currently unclear but Bass points to his statement as evidence that "pretty much all of them have been sold thru."

Huh never heard of this problem before?

Also, dude you've got an x-box, anything could RRoD it.

That is incredible. Good for them.
More money for M$ hopefully means more extensive and better R&D into the eventual Xbox '720'.

Me either until this came up on facebook by PALGN's Jahanzeb

Got the old one repaired

It wont happen again, because it has been found that the Kinect kills old Xbox models in an instant. In my case, it took only 14 hours for the Kinect to kill my console, but there are reports of people getting the RR...OD in a matter of minutes.

If any of you own the old Xbox 360 model, DO NOT USE KINECT. Kinect only works well on the slim models (possibly jasper).
and I looked further and found http://www.winrumors.com/kinect-causing-rrod-on-some-older-xbox-360s/

I don't like to take chances but I want Dance Central!!!

I don't have a slim and haven't had any RROD problems with my Kinect. Maybe I'm lucky?

Man now I'm thinking I should unplug my Kinect when I'm not using it.

I have used Kinect (extensively) on 3 different old xboxs (one from early 2007, one from 2008, and one from 2010) and had no problems at all. The idea that Kinect causes RRoD is either a real edge case or just plain FUD.

If it was widespread, MS would be doing some substantial damage control (a la extending warranties for old Xboxs like they did a few years back). You'd also be hearing many, many more complaints on 'teh interwebz'.

Shipped to retailers not sold to customers but it is still a huge number which is great. Haven't seen any games to make me interested in Kinect but after having the Move for about a month I am really happy to see these kind of peripherals incorporated into gaming. I certainly wouldn't want them to become the focus but they definitely have their place, looking forward to playing Killzone 3 with motion controls.

Wow this is a huge number. Still not even a little interested in this until it becomes better tech or has better games (and I don't have to buy seperatly). Still, even shipped, this is a large number. I thought that this would flop.

8 million... Hooly dooly...

Using Kinect on old Xbox with no issues so far (and I've had to send mine to Sydney a total of 5 times!).

Think I made another convert last night.
Had friends over and after the wife of the couple had finished shaking her booty to Dance Central, she was asking why they'd bought a PS3 instead of a 360... then she started begging to get an Xbox as well! icon_smile.gif

But when any popular game comes out, you get people complaining it made their 360 RROD. If people have a problem, they will complain, making the problem seem bigger than it is. I'm sure the amount of consoles that have RROD after using Kinect aren't that many, and most probably either a coincidence, or people playing old consoles that they haven't in a while.

I'm kind of shocked. Normally I'll buy anything new but Move and this don't interested me in the at all (or motion plus for that mater).

Strangely, I have a mate yesterday who rung me asking where he could get a Kinect as it was sold out everywhere. He is a WoW player. I was kind of shocked.

If M$ can show me it's going to be useful with hardcore games then I'll be interested.

Clearly, someone has forgotten to buy a Move. icon_lol.gif

My friend said that if you set the console region to US then voice commands work. I haven't tried this myself though.

Move and Kinect are very, very different. Move caters more to the hardcore market IMO, whereas Kinect is by far the most accessible gaming interface I've ever seen, making it far better for casual/party games, albeit more limited in some ways for hardcore games.

I'm still waiting for a combination of both systems - if Microsoft add a 'wand' type device which can be used in conjunction with Kinect for movement/dodging/melee then they might actually be able to bring the Kinect to the FPS market.

This is what I want, I kind of wish Xbox had Move where PS3 had Kinect. Would really have loved to try Halo and Harry Potter out on my xbox with it. Still they may be able to make Kinect a great device for a hardcore game, I'm just kind of not sure how yet.

Honestly, all they have to do is keep Halo as it is with the controller but use Kinect for Melee and I'll be happy. I'm a very vivid gamer; when I'm playing and I hit the melee button, I usually enact the melee myself as well. icon_razz.gif
