Simple question: where can I get a DS Lite replacement battery that holds close to the charge of the original battery, without actually being an expensive original battery ($30 from Nintendo)? _________________

$30 isn't expensive for a good-quality rechargeable battery that's going to last you a while. I'd just go with it. _________________

No idea how good it is, but be prepared to wait a few weeks for shipping if you order it. _________________

Yeah, I know about DX. A lot of the batteries there are crap, though. The one I got lasted less time than my dying original battery.

$30 for a battery is expensive when the whole unit is $90, in my opinion anyway. _________________

If you're worried about quality, get the official part. If it includes shipping, $30 is pretty small for a replacement part that isn't exactly carried by retailers.
And where the heck can you buy a DS Lite for $90 from? _________________

2nd hand, pretty much anywhere. eBay, OCAU, MMGN, the Game Exchange. Even GAME have them for $99.
And I'm not super worried about quality. I just don't want it to be worse than my dying battery. _________________

A second-hand DS isn't going to necessarily have a virgin battery though. _________________
