So just started the 10 day trial with a goblin.
Ok yeah they really need to re-work the old charecter models now, the level of detail on the goblin model just makes the vanilla ones embarrasing. _________________

Blizzard have stated thousands of times for years now that they want to, but it is simply a lower priority to other elements of the game. As a welcome middle-ground, they did up the poly-count for the existing races (including Draenei/Blood Elves, who were already better) with the 4.0.1 patch.
They've also stated some rubbish about people becoming attached to the old models, that I don't buy (particularly w/ Moonkin form). _________________

yeah I don't buy the attached to the old models thing either, if they kept the same design but upped the detail then no one would be upset (Except me that they haven't changed the fucking troll females yet)
Seriously though, they need to figure out some priorities. The charecter that you spend hours, days, weeks, hell years with looking good should be a fucking priority. _________________

eh, i think Blizz are right - i know i personally would prefer them to fix the "Entering/Leaving Combat" bug that's plaguing several zones before the get to fixing some character models, since one is actually a nuisance, whereas the other is, although nice, only cosmetic. _________________

If blizz are at the point were there moddlers and texture artists are the ones that are fixing the bugs in the game then.... well ok that would actually explain a fair bit.
Otherwise I highly doubt there's much cross over in the people that work on those two problems.
Also I'm not the only one that saw this right?
Akuma even had an alt colour that matches that. _________________

He wears beads around his neck so that makes him Akuma.

You keep telling yourself that; I think you're looking too much into it, despite Blizzard's track record for referencing.
Edit: I meant track, honest. _________________

I don't think it's anything other then a strange coincidence. (Basing thralls new design off a third tier alternate costume in a re-release/upgrade of Street Fighter 4 is just way too fucking obscure for me to believe it's intentional)
I just thought it was cool though.
But while we're on it. Deathwings human model is totaly Baron Von Underbite. _________________

Man, it's been a while since I posted in this thread, isn't it?
I'll repost my comment about Cataclysm from the trial article, I think it sums up my feelings on the whole thing.
| Quin wrote: | To be honest, Cataclysm's reworking of the 'old world' content is finally the thing that made the game enjoyable for me. While the art style still annoys me to no end (I've always preferred FFXI's as far as MMOs go), the 'new questing experience' has been pretty fun.
To better illustrate, my character progress over the years WoW has been out;
Vanilla WoW/Burning Crusade - No character beyond 15
Wrath - No character beyond 40
Cataclysm - 70 in less than a month
The only downside to all this is since the Old World now uses Wrath-era quest design, Outland sucks balls. |
I'm playing under the banner of the alliance-side RPGamer guild on Draenor US. _________________

One thing to say
SKIPPING IN FLOWERS!!!!!!!!!
That animation you get when you get to the bottom of the ocean and run along on it is fucking hilarious! (Atleast if you're a troll) It's my new favorite thing in the world. _________________

Vashj'ir gets old fking fast.
but there are still some pretty awesome quests there, and it is a very pretty zone.
Mount Hyjal was a f**king dream for Lorebies, and people who've been around since launch.
and Uldum is epic win for people who want their pop-culture references.
(i'm speaking from Alliance side - though i think Hyjal and Uldum are pretty universal.) _________________

Cata is awesome for leveling. It really was needed to get the old wow vets like myself to be able to go through the pain staking old world again for the nth time.
Currently leveling a lvl 16 goblin shaman, Jazzyfizzle.
Good fun. Gonna try and nab all the achievments I can on the way, explore ever zone I go into, do all quests requried to get achievment, do each dungeon in my level bracket once as I go fowards. _________________ xfire = andylulz

so anyone else find the worgen starting area really dissapointing?
After the Goblin starting area it just feels half arsed. The goblin area was one of the first times playing the game that I actually felt like I was playing a character rather then an avatar killing shit for exp. The fact that they were people to your goblin before the game started made it feel like my goblin actually existed before I hit the create button. Having the characters travel along with me, betrayal etc it was brilliant. I ended up caring for the goblins that traveled with me. (your assistant is awesome) and when you end up meeting thrall and shit. Then seeing how the island changes, and setting up the town and all that.
From starting the worgen zone were you start off and there are just the shadows of the worgens running across t he roof I thought it was gunna be awesome. But it quickly turned into just killing worgens, I didn't really give a shit about who I was. I just seemed like Random citizen no 12 who ended up getting caught up in it.
Over all eh. _________________

i had no idea what i was missing out on with my crappy old computer. i was a low settings, medium at best with my old macbook pro. last night i fired up my new 17'' macbook pro with all settings put on ultra and its like playing a brand new game. flying super high over stormwind was incredible and i was able to find that last dwarf paladin from up there so i could fly down and flake him with snow. getting out of there after doing that is a different story though.
the graphics, while dated, still kicks every other games ass in terms of terrain detail and the pure size of the environment and it never ceases to amaze me. even more so with my new graphics power. _________________

I think the art style has carried them a long way. Love it or loathe it (I love it) it suits low poly counts fantastically. _________________

so just out of interest I decided to compare how detailed the models were for the old races to the new ones.
Troll male - 1234 polys
Goblin male - 2278 polys _________________

I actually found both disappointing.
The Worgen starter zone did nothing new at all. The quests were rather boring and the story wasnt well told in my opinion.
The Goblin starter zone was fun...for the first 10minutes. It got repetitive fast and i found it got a bit childish for my tastes at times. Though i guess thats what goblins are all about!
I prefer Worgen over Goblins. I like the history and the lore behind them, but blizzard definitely missed a big opportunity to tell their story properly in the starter zones.

So none of my friends or guildies were online so I thought I'd try to do a random heroic. Worst idea ever. Too many special people playing the game.

Ripped the models out and put them in 3D max.

The goblin starting area was never going to be a deadly serious affair.
It did waver back and forth between being serious and commedy though once you got to the island, sure you had to pilot a robot shark to kill a giant shark, but you also had to hunt down your old girlfirend and kill her after she betrayed you etc.
I think it's the fact that you actually had an old girlfriend and friends etc when you started though. Were as the Worgens was more of the "WELCOME RANDOM CITIZEN!" _________________

New BGs are awesome.
Tol Barad: if you are defending have your whole team stay in the one building and victory is almost assured.
Twin peaks: Re-skinned Warsong Gultch
Battle for Guillneas: Slightly modified Arathi Bason
