It blew my mind man. I was watching Trainspotting again and suddenly made the connection. I was all like, 'I must inform Palgn of this immediately.'
Depressing side note: A friend is currently watching season 3. I sat through an episode with her and could see just how much better the show was then as opposed to now. Back then it was a show with a clear vision and purpose. Now it's just another series trapped in the creative limbo of mainstream success.
It was a sad confirmation of what I've been feeling for a while. _________________

^^^ I've noticed this a tiny bit, although I'm not angry with the show as much, I'm still going to keep watching until it gets really bad by my own standards, but this most recent episode, didn't really keep my in suspense... The whole Robocop > Dexter thing got hand-waved like a mofo, and I was really expecting something more to come of that, like... I dunno. Something more exciting than him being stupid and waiting for a clearly uninterested and not to mention stupid 'Quinn'... Instead it was a barely climatic kill.... I know there'll be SOME repurcussion next episode, but, It's just not the same... Also they're treating the last 2 episodes like a 2 parter, which worked great in the 1st season, but that was because it also involved a big reveal, whereas this one seems so very forced... that said, i've really enjoyed episodes 1-10 of this season, Especially episode 6... but the 11th seemed incredbily weak.
Hopefully the finale will pick it up, and viewing episode 11 + 12 like one episode will give me some peace of mind... But I really don't know. I do know that I do NOT want Lumen to die, it seems too obvious.
EDIT:
Just watched the Finale... The big moment was awesome... but unsatisfying.. As was really the whole season. Awesome but unsatisfying. There's not really much else to say. _________________

Yeah, season finale = terrible
1) liddy's death --> quinn resolution seemed to be over in 5 minutes
2) motivation speakers death = unimpactful. I did crack up over the knife in the foot
3) dexter/lumen and deb confrontation was really really poorly done. Just so happen to be standing behind an approximately transculent plastic wrapper. Also, they could be seen. And yet, both dexter and lumen conviently never said a word. Even when deb shot the gun, they managed to stay mostly quiet. Ermmm. Would have been better if deb found out the secret. As is, deb is one of the worst characters on this show
4) quinn knows dexter let him off but the episode doesn't get into it. Quinn is one of the worst characters on this show. I'm so in love that I'm looking at photos of dexter dumping BLACK PLASTIC BAGS into the ocean and don't make the connection to the murders years ago. Quinn is worthless.
5) La Guerta and Bapista are both worthless this season.
really weak finale imo. Lumen wasn't even really hurt by final boss (can't rememeber his name now - that's how impactful the episode was). Everything skirted by and they wasted too much time introducing the bratty children again + son's birthday = filler.
Ester + Dexter pep talk at the end was dreadful. Again, the kids really shouldn't be given too much airtime.
I enjoyed pretty much most of the episodes this season. Except the finale. Kind of lousy to be honest.
should have closed on lumen leaving dexter and him being alone again or something. _________________

also eli stone.
but while he was a cheesy ham with a piss poor americant accent in that,
here he was sort of a evildoer with a piss poor americant accent.
I saw his name in the credit and thought, "that's what he's doing after eli stone got cancelled. ah alright"... _________________

also I bloody well cracked up left/right center when
dead ghost dad was like "you need to concentrate dexter, this is jordan chase haunt he knows it... concentrate or he'll take you"
and in doing so, distracts dexter enough to make his car hit that bulldozer and do a barrelflip.
its so comical, they might as well ask bill cosby to come in a season 6. Its a comedy!!! _________________

I thought it was pretty good. I was expecting a more "hard hitting" ending, but when I think about it, other than Season 4, most had a pretty small, I guess, ending after the main event, so it probably was too much to expect. But still, I liked it, and now I'm going to have to buy Season 3 and 4 to watch again.

agreed about the finale.... very anti climactic and predictable really....
When I saw Deb nearly see Dexter I thought he might have revealed himself to her (as in the novels) to save himself. But ahh well Debs cliched getaway was easy enough.
I guess the main kicker is that the show had no cliff hanger at all. I bet ratings will be down this time next year when the premiere airs. _________________ http://bencadphotography.com/

At this rate I get the feeling that Dexter could pull a Patrick Bateman, tell everyone he knows of what he gets up in his private time and they'll all laugh and assume he just wants a bit of attention. _________________

So basically this season was entirely pointless. Everything just resets back to square one. The kids were gone and are now back (just in time to be written out again next season), Lumen decides to piss off (back to her home planet presumably), and Dexter is once again in the clear. Quinn is exonerated (forget all that other evidence!) and is Deb is as clueless as ever thanks to the mystical plastic sheet of convenience. Oh and how can I forget, LaGuerta and Batista are back together.
So long Dexter. _________________

Watch it again, the way I saw it was that Quinn knew about Dexter and couldnt/wouldnt say anything. He knew his private detective was onto something, knew it was about dexter and knew where the blood on his shoe came from. Thus, his respect and silence not saying anything. He called for a lawyer as he knew either Dexter would be unveiled (his private detective involvement would be in question) or would get away with it, so he waits silently,
Deb also knew, but didnt want to open the can of worms from seeing Dexter in action. You can tell this by the fact that she says "I bet YOU are especially glad all this is over...". Now why would dexter be glad? She knew, she knows deep down inside that its him.
Quinn and her now respect him more, by choosing to know but to not know in a sense. They respected the vigilante, proven by their discussion of duality at the end. They both know but do not do anything that would jeapordise dexter or their positions. Which is fighting crime, and the fact that dexter takes care of the criminals that frustrate them so (as evident by debs obession over the rap and comments over how she wishes someoone would just take care of it). _________________

I don't get what you're trying to say. The only reason Quinn didn't rat Dexter out was because of what it would do to Deborah. He 'loves' her remember. He was willing to take the fall for the Liddy murder by protecting the brother of the woman he loves. I'd have found that touching if I didn't think the Deb/Quinn relationship was complete arse.

Why would she even suspect anything? From what I can recall, Dexter did absolutely nothing to hint to Deb that he had a personal stake in the Barrel Girl case. He's done nothing that would link him to being a vigilante killer either. For Deb to make an assumption like that out of thin air is as sloppy as anything I've seen all season. What am I missing? Why would Deb make that connection?
The Quinn thing makes a slight bit of sense but it's all tied to that idiotic relationship with Deb so I ****ing hate that it's coming from that place. There really is no silver lining there. The writing staff have written every single one of these characters into a gaping hole. Good luck trying to dig them out... _________________

(spoilers in here - i don't really know why i'm warning anyone since if you're in here now, and haven't watched S4 and S5, you're a bit stupid.)
in case you're wondering why this was so neatly wrapped up this season - there was only supposed to be 5 seasons. S6 is a new development.
i enjoyed this season. i really don't get why Deb and Quinn hooking up was a big issue. i mean i kinda don't think they're matched, but i got the feeling Deb was mentally f**ked up over Lundy's death, and then Rita's death and Quinn also suffered from Trinity's biological daughter/reporter woman's suicide in front of him so i can fully see the two of them gravitating toward eachother.
is it love? i don't know. can't really fault their beginnings better or worse than many other people.
i disagree that Deb knows that the vigilante's partner was Dex. i mean the potential was there for her to work it out, and perhaps even sympathise with after the conversation earlier in the season, and Dex's own tragedy (the whole "some people don't deserve to live" comment from the "previously on" section.)
i am actually rather disappointed Deb didn't discover it was Dex and Lumen. i still think she'd have walked away, and probably wouldn't even have suspected Dex of his previous work, but i would've liked the open discussion between the two of them about his reaction to Rita's murder (as she would've interpreted his actions, i'm sure.)
(as for Deb herself, i like her - but that's neither here nor there.)
however, i think Quinn knows. as slow as he is, i don't think even he could've missed the similarities between Lumen and the barrel girls - and why else would she be out with him on the boat in Liddy's pictures?
whether he knows for sure that Dex was Kyle Butler, i don't know, but i think he still suspects. i'm also not sure if he plans on doing anything more with the information come seaosn 6. on the one hand, the whole vigilante love thing might have earned his forgiveness for taking out Jordan Chase, and the rest, but i'm not so sure Liddy's death is as forgiveable, despite how much Quinn lived to regret getting him involved, as he really didn't do anything as despicable as JC etc.
i'm not convinced about Quinn connecting the dots between the Bay Harbour Butcher case, and the photos of Dex/Lumen though, since he wasn't with Miami Metro at that time, and even if he did recognise it, he could simply have convinced himself that Dex is borrowing from "Doakes", not that Doakes wasn't the one in the first place.
there are a few things i didn't like, however.
firstly, the Nanny - she really felt like a magic mcguffin in order for Dex to have both his son, and his extra-curricula activities. but that said, i can't really think of anything else that would've made sense from a plot POV on this.
secondly - what happened to the twins that Deb was chasing? i mean i know she shot one, but did i miss something? that whole thing seemed to vanish once the barrel girls were splashed on the road. i get that this probably would've happened, procedurely, since 12 bodies like that would probably draw a lot of attention, but there must've been a "blink and you miss it" change, and i blinked, and missed it.
there were probably more things i wanted to say, but i've written enough for now i think. _________________

Firstly, re: Deb finding out. EXACTLY! EGG ****ING ZACTLY! Dexters writers would've pounced on that in any previous season, why they didn't here I have no clue in the world. It would've turned this whole season around from mediocre to, possibly very damn good.
Secondly, re: twins. Yeah, the twins thing I'm pretty sure was just to give Deb+Quinn something to do while Dexter was getting all choppy with Boyd, and it vanished as soon as every character was connected via Barrel Girls.
Lastly:
You can always write more It's very interesting IMO. _________________

agree with capoeira re: quinn. The only reason why he backed off Dexter was Deborah. That ... is extremely weak. The fact then that despite the world of cobborating evidence against quinn - blood =/= liddy equates freedom? Also, for him to have witnessed all these things about Dexter - the photos, the strangeness etc. And then for it to be dropped simply because he loves Deborah is amazingly poor writing. Not even becasue he loves her, but because she has a yelling sook about the matter?
Quinn, as a cop, working in homicide. 2 people loading black bags onto a boat at night and you're interest isn't at least piqued? That is BIZARRE. Liddy who he knew was going after dexter getting slain... and he doesn't wonder/suspect?! It is amazingly maddening just to think about.
Him and Deb's characterisations this season make me a bit mad. Especially in the finale. But Deb's character has mostly been retarded anyhow so she didn't bother me as much. But that convienient plastic wrap/screen did bother me.
As for lumen, at least her arc made sense. I actually really enjoyed the barrel girl arc and I thought JS did a great job portraying Lumen. I also always thought her character and name (lumen - luminious/light) kind of worked with my sensibilities as to her role in the storyline and her/dexters eventual liberation of sorts. The sequence where she made her first kill was a real highlight this season. From dirty beat up survivor to liberated vigilante.
The Nanny isn't the magic mccguffin. He's a single dad. Its sort of what Dexter needed to do anyhow to look after a 1year old. He doesn't really have surviving parents or people who can help look after harrison /shrug.
* would liked more insight into retarded woman who got raped and than became a JC devotee. More than the show illustrated anyhow. Nothing about her made sense in the story, she had all the locks etc to protect herself but she lets him in, and reveres/adores JC? Helps him lure Lumen in? etc. wack
* just realised Jordan Chase's abbrv = JC. Jesus Christ. God complex? _________________

oh i agree that he mostly backed off for Deb's sake - i'm just not sure of exactly what it is he knows. i assume he knows Dex is one of the vigilantes, and can reasonably guess therefore that he off'd Liddy - but he's still only got an assumption that Dex is Kyle Butler.
so then it becomes a question of what will he do about the first two?
i can see him almost accepting that he killed JC and the rest - since Deb has talked about them in almost heroic terms, he may also believe that it was ok (assuming he connects Lumen as Girl #13) but can he reconcile him killing Liddy?
i'm not sure about that.
anyway - i enjoyed the season overall, and in the end that's all that really matters...
(as for not writing more earlier - was my Christmas Lunch today, so i'm rather drunk, and forgetful of points i want to make. ) _________________

I saw a clip from 10 Things I Hate About You on TV the other day and all I could think about was Lumen. JS did a really good job with the character, it's a shame she's leaving but at least it leaves out the whole awkward "Hey kids, this is your new mum" scene and the whole "I said she was a tenant, and I was kinda telling the truth but you won't believe me because we're together... AFTER i told you we weren't a couple... For reals! ". But at least they didn't kill her off... Hopefully she comes back in a later season.... maybe the darkness hasn't really left her (overnight, I might add!)
But it seems like Rita's death wasn't used to its full potential. I'd pretty much all but forgotten the character of Rita by the end of the season!

So the pilot for Season 6 is out now. It was quite good! Definitely looks to be different from the other seasons, and they seem to be focusing a lot on religion. Looking forward to seeing more, hopefully they can keep it good for the whole season.
