And just think there are better looking areas than that.
Up to world 8. Things are getting tricky.

WOW. Popped this in last night it was an amazing experience. Gonna go hire Lego Indiana Jones today so I can re-install my HBC and get the classic controller working that would make it perfect.
The waggle function works, sure, but it is not 100% accurate and sometimes I roll witout initiating it, on the harder levels this is a pain. REALLY NINTENDO why didnt you include classic controller from the outset with a button mapped to the waggle function? AAAAAAAAAAAARGH. I have HAD IT WITH MOTION CONTROLS they are the APOCALYPSE.
Anyway, excellent game will be all time with a normal controller. _________________

Wait, what?
PLEASE tell me the name of this homebrew that lets me remap buttons to the Classic Controller!!
Or is it just a Riivolution plugin?
Either way, I would LOVE it! What's it called? _________________

Esposch - previous page on this thread.
I think you need Ocarina Code Manager (enables SD card cheats/hacks) and Gecko OS USB Loader (which you can load your retail game with too) and it loads the hack, and, wallah your on a classic controller as it should have been. _________________

Just in case you didn't believe us on Wednesday when we said you could get Donkey Kong for little more than a bunch of bananas, we've got the pics to prove it.
Various happy chappies managed to make the front of the queue as the doors of Game and GameSation opened this morning in London, Hull and Dudley.
Importantly, they were also clutching a bunch of bananas, which they happily handed over the counter and got Donkey Kong Country Returns for their troubles.
The best part of all this? It means you lot get another go at coming up with some fruity puns.
Go to it. Play nice though, or we'll have to use the Banhama ... banhama? Ban hammer? sounds like banana? Fine you do better. |
Hilariously awesome! _________________

It wasn't in this thread (I don't think) but Manekast's story about how he felt nervous on the way to pick this game up and was shaking as he held it in his hands gave me hope for humanity.
Hope you enjoy it man.

Just got this game for me birthday!!! It's fun, it's awesome playing a Donkey Kong Country game without knowing where everything is already. The controls really aren't that bad. The ONLY criticism I have is the 'Blow' mechanic, it feels weird and out of place...
But otherwise I'm loving the flow the game has, it seems to be constantly moving forward yet still challenging, but you never get stuck... It's incredible. _________________

nearly up to what i think is the final boss (halfway through volcano) and my god, are some of these levels difficult. breezed through the first 4 worlds, 5 and 6 started to get a bit tricky, but nothing to bad, then world 7 and things started getting pretty tough. right now, im surprised the wii remote is still working (i tend to smack the wii remote and nunchuck together like some sort of disabled seal during rage with the wii.)
with that said, it is ever so satisfying to completea level after 20 something unsuccessful attempts. Also, the difficulty in the game is genuinely difficult - some of the level design is down right evil, but in a good way - it never ends up by feeling cheap when you die, which is a definite plus.
my only gripes with the game is not being able to play as diddy individually in single player, and the goddamn waggle. but besides those two things, the game is pretty fantastic.retro studios have done a pretty outstanding job with this one, fingers crossed that a few more sequels are on the way, i'd love to see a return for dixie and kiddie kong.

You guys got my all in regrets, looking forward to tonight, anyone get the hack working? |
I can confirm it DOESN'T work.
It didn't work originally, it didn't work with a change in the game ID.
I had a crack at converting both versions, but all I managed to get was a crash and a freeze. Oh well. Wagglan time, I guess. _________________

Gotta say, having played this in Dolphin, it makes it hard to go back to playing on Wii... :\
Turned Toon mode on for the first few, like it better than default in a way

By saying it was a disappointment?
I genuinely expected it to be thoroughly amazing, and it disappointed me. How is that wrong?

I love it, completely.
Though the classic controller is much much much better, makes it a different game. Waggle works but is not 100% accurate. Classic controller with waggle as a button makes the gameplay, perfect. (# I havent got the classic controller hack to work for PAL yet, I had to find another way...). _________________

My review should go up today.
I didnt have anywhere near as big of a problem with the waggle as I thought I would. There's a learning curve, but for most part I thought it was very responsive and rarely if ever hindered my gameplay. I really had no fundamental problem with it.
But I do think it was an unusual choice, and silly that no option was given to map it to a button. Rather than actually add something to the experience or feel naturally woven into the design (like the spin in Galaxy), it feels like Nintendo went "THIS NEEDS SOME WAGGLE" and Retro shoehorned it in the best they could. _________________

^^
I can see the meeting now...
Retro "We have finished DKCR, its awesome and the gameplay is flawless using classic controller/gamecube controller so we included the option to use that"....
Nintendo "We cannot have such a high profile game come out and not justify our direction in hardware for the home console market"
Retro "Errr. just an option would be nice for gamers who grew up with this series on SNES?"
Nintendo "No. Everyone waggles. Forever"
Gamers "AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGH! what happened to DKC?" _________________

I don't have this game yet, so I don't know, maybe its an over-the-top wagglefest (though various reports would suggest it isn't), but I don't get why every time something requires you to shake your controller there is such a backlash. Are people that lazy that a quick wrist wiggle is the worst thing that could happen to them? _________________
