This season is so, so good in my opinion. The latest episode was great, I really hope Lumen stays for the next season, though I'm guessing she'll go away/get killed off in the end though. But I am really looking forward to the next episode, the ending was great.

Oh man, I loved it, Especially how much the title of the episode tied in with the 'audiences'/my thoughts!
| SPOILERS wrote: | | Like when he handed the blood slide to Lumen, my only thoughts were screams of "TAKE IT"'s. |
I also want Lumen to stick around next season, as I think that Dexter and her make a great combo, as characters and as partners.
What I reckon, is that everyone expects the writers to kill off Lumen somehow, so I think that it's more likely that they won't. It's gotten to that weird generation of TV where people start to expect the bad things to happen so that the show drags on (for example, in most shows nowadays, any given romance that everyone wants to happen and know should happen will be dragged on and on by the writers til the season finale, but recently, a few other shows i've been watching have started to put the characters together earlier, and I think that's the writers showing a bit of intuition) And I hope that the Dexter writers follow suit with this trend of re-twisting peoples expectations. _________________

Im thinking Dexter might be suffering '24 syndrome' where it reached its best season, but then will slowly lose appeal over the next few years.

I agree, it was utterly amazing in Season 1, ever since it I have felt the show is just producing filler to turn over cash. But by making more seasons it takes away from how good Season 1 was (Similar to Heroes).

Probably shouldn't have read this thread as some people (who will remane nameless) have put some serious spoilers up on the previous page, Season 4 = ruined for me. _________________

Pretty good episode, nothing that really stands out as a great episode, but still good. The preview for next weeks episode looks great though, I can't wait to see it.

Just watched Episode 9 of the current season, and I thought that the cliff-hanger-y bit at the end was pretty intense, made me jump forward at my computer screen and the word "Writers" and "are jerks (the awesome kind)" ran through my head.
The preview DOES look pretty incredible, But it makes it that much harder to stand the wait til the next week.
With incredibleness in mind, who thought that episode 6 "Everything Is Illumenated" (Did you notice?), was the magnum opus of the season so far, and possibly one of the most entertaining and fun episodes to watch in a long time, of any show. For me, it's one of my favourite episodes of all time of Dexter, possibly my most favourite but probably cause it's the freshest in my mind.
Anyone else share that thought? _________________

Episode 9 really kicked it up a notch and now I really can't wait for episode 10, Liddy and Jordan Chase are bloody awesome and scary at the same time.

Finally this season has picked up. Judging by the preview for episode 10 shit is going down.
Robocop's character Liddy is a great addition, would be great if he comes back next season, if he doesn't get killed.
Season 5 was always gonna be hard to top, after the awesomeness of season 4.

I actually thought Season 4 was the worst so far. John Lithgow did a good job though. _________________

The last couple of episodes of this season have really stepped things up a notch (or 3). I'm really liking where they're taking the whole Dexter/Lumen/Jordan Chase storyline. It's also good seeing Dexter share his 'dark' side with someone, similar to Miguel before he went off the rails....
I think I have to say though, I hate La Guerta, and not in a good 'love too hate' way, I really wish she wasn't on the show. Hated her from word go but she is getting worse every ep... _________________ Now Playing: Borderlands, HOMM5, Mass Effect.

was blown away by the latest episode. so good. when deborah nearly found dexter/lumen in the killroom (in the cunning edit), I was like omg omg. excellent season to me. I know some people hate on it but this and trinity have been the best seasons since 1. _________________

Yep, episode 10 was awesome. This show stresses me out when I watch it, though. Everything seems like it's about to unravel all the time.

In the preview for next week, Vince was watching the recordings of Dexter and Lumen? Was it Dexter who Deb was aiming at? I played it slowly and it really looks like it, but I can't be sure. I cannot wait to see how it ends, it could end up real bad for everyone.

Episode 11 was awful. Worst episode of the season by far. I think I zoned out a few times during some of those scenes. I was *this* close to switching the TV off in frustration and just giving up.
I'm hoping this isn't a sign of things to come, but after the way things worked out this episode, I'm really not looking forward to finding out. Just when the season seemed to be hitting it's stride too. One more shit episode and I'm bailing on the show for good. _________________

This episode seemed to bring all the frustrations I've been having with the season to the fore.
For starters, I never bought the Deb/Quinn love thing at all. It was so stupid and came out of nowhere. It's as bad, if not worse than the LaGuerta/Batista 'relationship'. Why the fuck do the writers insist on hooking it's characters up with each other out of the blue? Do they really think it's what people want to see? It's not like anything significant ever comes of it either because whenever some big thing happens, it's forgotten about just one episode later.
Which leads me to the other major issue; nothing ever seems to 'stick' any more in this series. Remember the Death Cult? What was the point of that again? How about that hot cop chick. Has she just vanished? Dexter being a single father seemed like kind of an important thing when this season began and even that's been a complete wash. Just write the kids out of the story and leave Harrison with the Nanny 90% of the time. Problem solved. Oh and there's Rita who we shall never speak of again. It's like she never even existed.
It's all so disingenuous and really cheapens the characters we're supposed to be rooting for. It's this clear lack of respect for decent character growth that has been bugging me since day 1 of this season and it's been getting worse as worse as the season goes on. Episode 11 was just the point where I decided I couldn't let it slide anymore.
I don't even want to get into how sloppy Dexter has been all season either and how conveniently he's managed to get away with everything. All of this is compounding into one giant shit-pile that makes me wonder if it can really get any worse.
I don't know. Maybe I'm holding it to an unfair standard. That said, it's still a standard that the early seasons would have cleared without fault. The drop in quality has never been this pronouced. And now there's a 6th season on the way and given how high this show is still rating, most likely a 7th, even 8th.
I seriously doubt I'll be tuning in at that point. This series is clearly now past it's prime. _________________
