The Social Network

I thought it was a very solid film, quality script writing, but of course, there was the boundary of the plot. Fincher wasn't able to travel into that realm of fiction he usually delves into, complicated and amazing, and Sorkin dramatized it as best he could.

Jesse Eisenberg played a very nice Zuckerberg, but I think the Winklevoss twins (played by one sole character) was done amazingly. You wouldn't have known if you didn't follow up to find the facts.

All in all, I enjoyed the film, and they did make it the best they could with the available resources they had.
7/10

Machete
Machete Machete Machete Machete

Robert Rodriguez at his cheesy best. Here's a slight spoiler of the first kill: Trejo cuts up a guys arm, then his head, then splits him in half, with his machete. He then follows up by picking up the gun in the sliced hand to shoot two other people. From then on, it's quality. Cheesiest soundtrack alive, gotta get myself a copy.

Danny Trejo does a great job playing a modest guy that was born to fight, with primal lines like "Machete don't text", and "Machete improvise". At the end of the film you're left thinking, why can't I be this guy?

However, the plot does get a little confusing at the end, gets a little fast.

7/10

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1

I felt slightly annoyed when I left that cinema tonight, and it wasn't because it was a terrible film, but because I have to wait another 6 months to see the rest.

Some deaths go a little fast, and theres a lot of change in dynamic between intending to be scary and quite amusingly funny, which may or may not work in it's favour, I'd think not. It had however progressed quite well I would think, very well done film, making use of it's resources (Emma Watson) and providing the audience with something at least half of them would've wanted.

7.5/10 (gets scaled up because it's harry potter)

Dear Ong Bak 3.

WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT!!

Ong Bak wasn't an awesome movie because it examined the roll of Bhudisim in modern Thailand, it was an awesome movie CAUSE YOU ROUND HOUSE KICKED A DUDE WHILE YOU WERE ON FIRE!

Ong Bak 2 didn't survive on it's examination of the thai royality and there corruption. It made up for that shit WHEN YOU KILLED THE FUCK OUT OF AN ARMY!

Ong Bak 3 is the same kind of retarded bull shit that almost ruined Ong Bak 2, except the awesome end fight were he fights an army ends up being a dream and he kills the army with love magic and they all just fall over. That is shit. That is NOT A GOOD MOVIE!

Seriously, avoid Ong Bak 3. Shit sucked.

Have you heard of a film called Chocolate (dunno if that's the spelling)? Some film with a crazy awesome female fighter that puts Tony Jaa to shame.

Yeah Chocolate was awesome.

There's another one called Battle of the Pheonix or Rise of the Pheonix or something that I've been looking for, done by the same guys that did Ong Bak 1 and Chocolate about a group of people that dance fight. Saw the trailer for it ages ago and haven't been able to find it since.

[edit]
Raging Pheonix, fuck damm I want to find this movie.

Man watching that trailer reminded me of another reason Ong Bak 3 sucked. It wasn't 'real fight' or whatever they call it, it was wire work and shit.

Ong Bak 2 wasn't as good as the first one but if you haven't seen it I'd still recommend it. Just have your finger hovering over the fast forward button cause there's a lot of bull shit in it. The fights are amazing though.

I agree that Ong Bak 2 & 3 aren't as good as the first one, but i think they still have good direction during the fight scenes.

Western directors could learn a thing or two from Asian directors in that regard, all the way back to the Shaw Brothers/Golden Harvest movies. I don't need/want the camera to be all shaky and up close to show that the fight is fast and frantic. Just keep the camera still and have it show through the movement of the fighters.

Anyway, rant over. Benza, Madman's releasing Raging Phoenix here on dvd on Dec 15.

Watched a few dvds over the weekend and enjoyed them all, Harry Brown, House of Fury, and Goemon.

If you want to see this in all it's glory, watch the fight scene at the end of a jackie chan film called the protector (1985).....there is the american version of it and a hong kong version of it.

So, I finally watched The Great Escape. Not much to say, everyone knows it's a great film and very suspenseful at the end even a good 45 or so years down the track.

One thing I will say though is that I have a new found deeper appreciation for the film "Chicken Run" after watching it.

Okay, you guys need some education, clearly. Indie film, written and shot as a (melo)drama, now a cult comedy that has midnight screenings all around the world.

Spoons, footballs, tuxedos, drug debt, breast cancer, it's got it all.

The following scenes should serve as an excellent primer to the movie proper. Enjoy.

The White Ribbon

Wow, where to start?? Firstly, it was my first time watching it and I was amazed. It was brutal, emotional and interesting. It look's stunning in Black and White. I don't think I've ever seen a movie with such solid performances from all the cast. The kids where friggin amazing and the adults where great too. Despite the brutal nature of some of the adult's, one scene really made me feel sad for the Priest (it's to do with a bird) and made me feel empathy for him, despite his harshness. It was a long film (nearly 2.5 hours), but at no time was I bored orfelt it dragged on and the time just went. Another thing that impressed me was the use of shot's throughout the movie. Often there would be scenes where the camera was still for long periods of time and just allowed the audience to take in what was happening on screen (kinda hard to explain), but it worked really, really well.

I didn't really know what to expect (other than knowing the theme) and I was blown away. I highly recommend the film to any fan of well shot cinema and foriegn film's. It's brillant and certainly left an impression on me. I've never seen a film like it.

Pure dumb fun, exactly what I needed on this miserable wet afternoon. Some nice visual effects and editing too which I found quite surprising.

If your interested in the director's (Michael Haneke) other work, I recommend the French film Hidden, released about 2007, and did get a AUS R4 release. I thought it was a pretty good film.

So there's a movie coming out called Gun, staring 50 cent and Val Kilmer.

I know nothing about it other then it has this poster which is so hilariously bad that I want to see the movie.

I don't know about it being Australian, but I've frequently heard it refered to as the only thing Megan Fox has ever done that's worth a shit.

It's definitely not Australian, it's from the Juno team. And it was fairly high profile too.
