Mac's have never been known as a gaming platform, but soon, it will be all I have. Soon to move overseas for 5+ months, I will be leaving my only source of gaming, my 360, and only have my MacBook Pro to quench my gaming needs.
Has anyone had any experience with gaming on a mac? I downloaded and installed steam, then downloaded TF2 to try and get back into it, but it takes like a million years to open and join a game, then it runs pretty bad. That was like a month or so ago, has there been any updates too it?
Could I use my Warcraft 3 serials and just download some Mac images and play a bit of DotA? Does Heroes of Newarth or League of Legends have a Mac client?
Can anyone else recommend me some well ported games for Mac?
Also, Discuss anything else that might be Mac gaming related! _________________ GT: chunged

Just get a copy of Windows and boot camp it. Then you've got pretty much a full selection of games. _________________

I've got Parallels intstalled, and it is really crap. It doesn't run any apps at all. Is boot camp different? like a dual boot?
I just updated steam and TF2 and it actually runs really well! I am quite surprised! On that note, TF2 has changed ALOT in the year or so I've been away from it. All this hat business and stuff. I think I will play alot of TF2 seeing how well it runs!
Gonna install CS again and give that a go. Then might buy some cheap games on steam.
Another point. Anyone have any experiences with a good emulater? I got a backlog of PS1 games and some SNES games, mostly RPG's I wanna play. For each platform I'm looking for a stable emulator, with a save state ability. _________________ GT: chunged

Steam went to Mac and is converting it's library. I don't think every game is on Mac but a fair few and all of Valve games are on their.

My next computer will be a Mac, frankly im just not using my PC for gaming very often anymore, BUT thats not to say I want to give up gaming forever..
I'm waiting for the next refresh or two for the Imac before I purchase one, I am curious to see if Steams influence will cause apple to release Imacs will more powerful GPUs _________________ http://bencadphotography.com/

I just about only game on my iMac. Make sure to have all OS X updates downloaded, and be running 10.6 Snow Leopard, as there has been 2 or 3 updates in the last couple of months to improve performance. Any game by Valve or Blizzard are good. I know Heroes of Newerth has a Mac client, not sure about League of Legends though. But in my opinion there are more than enough games to play, but then Valve and Blizzard is all I really need, with a couple of other random games by smaller developers.

I have all those set up, with a Wii remote and classic control pro, using EmuLaunch as a frontend, here's a video:
As for Games, just check out Steam, there's plenty of good stuff there, Torchlight is great.
Also anything Blizzard. |
Thank looks awesome! I'm gonna be setting that up now for sure!
And saw that Minecraft has a mac client, gonna be buying that. _________________ GT: chunged

for SNES I highly recommend ZSNES Has awesome compatibility, even the annoying as hell games to get running (Star Ocean and Far East of Eden Zero come to mind).
I've got to say the sunset scene in Tales of Phantasia looks absolutely amazing in high res with one of the edge filters applied.

I have an early 08 macbook pro.
TF2 works fine.
Sure it gets hot >..<
But it works well for me.
Play that. Its a good game. Just set the settings to minimum. _________________ Currently Playing:

I have a late 2007 iMac, and Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 work great. ATI 2600HD Pro graphics card and 4GB of RAM. Anything better than that and you're doing better than me.

Haven't had a chance to respond to this yet, keep forgetting!
Anyway, I now do all my PC gaming on my Late 2009 MBP.
I can play Starcraft 2 on High settings (Low shadows), Heroes of Newerth maxed out, LFD2, Dragon Age, Mass Effect 2, Team Fortress 2 and even Civ V on medium-high settings.
Mind you, I do absolutely ZERO of this in OSX, which I hate to say, is just rubbish for gaming. The lack of video driver support is a serious shortcoming of Apple, one that I hope they correct soon along with the ability to upgrade your graphics card.
They're great gaming machines so long as you're in bootcamp, and don't want ridiculously high-end results. Predominantly I use mine for work and web design, so I really enjoy the gaming side of it ancillary to what I use it for. _________________

On OSX?
What version?
L4D2 won't work for me on 10.5, need 10.6 >..< _________________ Currently Playing:

Yeah, on OSX 10.6.5. If you can't get 10.6, Windows on Mac is pretty damn good, too.

I'm going to echo this, just go into bootcamp.
Although if you want to game in OSX, remember to switch video cards over to the more powerful one.
