I was just watching some old movies last night and I came across my anniversary edition of Ninja Scroll on DVD, and gosh it brought back the good times.
Last time I watched it I got inspired to get the first 2 DVDs of the anime series which were pretty awesome.
Who else here has seen either the movie or the series? please discuss _________________

What does the series revolve around? |
Its when Jubei was a ninja for hire and the actual series revolves around clan wars and a extremly special item 'the dragon stone', and Guess what Jubei gets to take care of it. _________________

and it's nowhere near as risque as the movie... or quite as violent, but there is still plenty of the red stuff to keep us happy... and get an MA rating... _________________

You do see this tree dude toying with this crystal lady, odd honestly.
Can anyone tell me what Resurection is like? I heard its a really bad mock of the original movie. _________________

it's nothing to do with Ninja Scroll
it's another series based on the Jubei legend, but is not made in conjunction with Ninja Scroll and has nothing to do with the movie or series, and from what i've heard it's pretty rubbish too... so rubbish in fact it was canned after 5 or 6 episodes, and i think only the first 2 or 3 are available here too...
i think the confusion came from a bad translation from the Japanese title, though i don't know what the correct translation is, i've read somewhere it's not quite Ninja, but was close enough for artistic licence...
yeah, i wondered what it was too, but after reading some reviews online, i'm glad i didn't buy it... _________________

I have seen the movie (got the Tenth Anniversary edition as well). Great film, but somewhat dated now, still one of my favourites as far as ninja's go. It was rather risque I suppose, but then that really adds to it.

ObsoletE - Thanks for the rundown after that final review I dont think ill be seeing resurection for a long time
And yes armageddon12, I agree that the risque adds to time and sorroundings but what do you mean by it being outdated? the animation? Because I still think its pretty damn good even for this time lol _________________

Yeah animation wise, plus some things just seem dated somehow, the colours I suppose, the style as well just reminds me of Double Dragon and stuff, which is probably why I felt it seemed dated. But there is deffinetely a difference between it and some animation of today, for example the new Appleseed movie.

Yeah the series seems to be alot more vibrant although I prefer the way the Ninja Scroll movie was put together (in some points non moving pictures were added and then only the characters would move), maybe thats why the actual detail is superior, because they worked more on the backdrops? _________________

plus the series is from an era when computers can and are used to replicate things quickly and clearly... don't forget the original NS movies had everything hand-drawn... so now imagine the bee/wasp scene... _________________

I was reminded of Ninja Scroll while playing Metal Gear Solid 3. A certain baddie with some friendly wasps Bring the pain...
As for the movie. I love it. Probably the best straight out action anime Ive seen. And thanks to the collectors edition Aussies can now see it unedited!!

Talking about Collectors editions, Pretty soon Madman is releasing the full series of Ninja Scroll as a box set.
The LE version consists of a metal case with an extra DVD with features like the making. And the standard version comes with the 3 volumes in a standard cardboard case.
Well worth a look at _________________

Not to call you a liar, but where did you pick up that gem of information?
Nothing is announced about Madman's box set release yet. _________________

Madman are the distrubutors of Ninja Scroll in Australia and in the current issue of New Type USA it has the commercial for the box sets and in the back section - the Australian release list contains 'Ninja Scroll Box Set - TBA'
Im trusting it will be released some time this year _________________

If you wanna get technical, AV Channel are actually the distributors. New Type USA is just that, for the US. Just because they are getting the tin box and special disc means in no way that we will get it. Australia always gets the short end of the stick when it comes to Anime.

Newtype USA also produces News for Aus. Madman distrubutes it here in Aus you can even buy it off there website.
Madman are the people that distrubute Ninja Scroll to us..
TBA stands for 'To Be Announced'. Thank you
OMG are you serious! I didnt know
The release date isnt confirmed, it is on the release list though - that means it will be released here _________________

Madman acquire the license to sell the particular show in this country, they author the DVDs, slap their Madman logo on it. The AV Channel then distributes the product.

Further up I said nothing has been announced about the box set. You validated that by reporting the magazine said it is TBA. I figured you didn't understand it.
| Quote: | | it is on the release list though |
Logic tells us it will be released here as all of Madman's series get the box set treatment 12 - 18 months after the last dvd is released. It is in actual fact not on their current release list which officially only goes up to May, and the details of this such release are not known at the moment.
And personally I don't see how an American magazine could possibly print news about the Australian market that hasn't been known long before it's release. _________________

i don't really get what you're saying...
where i order my anime (a JB Hifi store, so maybe they do things differently) they fill out a form with Madman on them... who is the AV Channel? i've seen their logo, but only on the amaray case inserts, not on the order form...
meh, i don't really care, as long as i get to watch... whatever... _________________

Hes trying to say the AV Channel are actually the ones who give us Ninja Scroll - hes trying to get smart by being technical but really it is Madman that gives us the Anime in Aus.
The AV Channel is affiliated with Madman > Madman 'creates' the DVDs > The AV Channel ships them of to most retailers.
But we see it as Madman because there the ones that create the DVDs for Aus _________________
