Just throwing it out there, but to me the keyboard on non-pro is almost the same as the guitar. I can pretty much play expert already and it's pretty awesome! Pro mode however... ugh. I need to really get into them tutorials! _________________ The best FPS is Pokemon Snap Facebook Group

While the dollar's up, I think I'm going to buy some USD and save it for the Squier, in case it goes down between now and March (it's a long time, after all). Not sure if I should convert some money in Paypal (using Paypal's exchange rate) or buy with a better exchange rate IRL and get it to an American friend to order for me somehow, though. _________________

Problem is that I feel the currency market is pretty volatile, and while some experts expect it to go that high you can't really predict anything like that accurately (after all, who would have expected it to be this high now when only two years ago it was hovering around the 60c mark?). I'll probably wait a little longer and see what's happening, but if I can actually buy USD at parity (as opposed to the midmarket rate being parity) I'll probably grab at least some then. Can always get more later if it goes higher, and hang onto it for a while. _________________

See the problem with the keyboard is, the majority of songs don't have keyboard. Tha's another reason holding me back from buying one.
Maybe if if Harmonix released some Van Halen songs, or songs with synths, it might be a worthwhile investment. _________________

I'm enjoying the keyboard, I had hit a wall with it a bit and wasn't improving but now I seem to be past that and am fairly happy with how it's going. When I got it I was struggling, now I'm somewhat competently playing Imagine in Hard Pro Keys (granted, not one of the harder songs but it's the one I wanted to learn). 63 of the RB3 songs have keys to some degree, though many of them not as obvious as Imagine or Bohemian Rhapsody. Need You Tonight for example just calls on you to press exactly the same chord every now and then - awesome for getting the 100% expert pro keys trophy (but pretty boring to do). I'm enjoying playing The Doors pack on keys as well and looking forward to Bon Jovi tomorrow.
Oh & keys has given the Lady Gaga pack new life, playing the songs on guitar felt totally wrong, but makes much more sense on a keytar (yes I have the Gaga pack, what of it?). Same with some of the NIN songs and others with piano/keys/synth transposed to guitar instead.

would it be worth getting just for the keys? I'm not really that interested in anything else. _________________

If there are songs with keys you want to play, then yes, definitely. Keys is fun. Just remember that a lot of songs don't have keys. Also, one of my friends said he had to rebuy DLC he already owns to get keys, I don't know if that's normal. _________________

There's 63 songs on-disc with keys, I've swiftly bumped that up to 80 via the awesome dlc we've got the last two weeks. Two of those songs are Bon Jovi songs I had off the exports from RB1 and RB2, so I've essentially paid for them a second time but it's not quite the same as buying dlc again. We lose some songs off exports anyway so I don't feel totally ripped off and it's not like I had to rebuy them to keep the song, I just really wanted to do keys in them.
If I just had RB3 and keys I'd be fine with that, most times I play it I just use them lately. And that's assuming you've got nothing else too, cause I've got about 470 other songs on my HD but since they don't have key charts I haven't been playing them either.
I'm glad I got onto RB when it launched in the US, it'd be a hell of an expensive buy-in if I were to try and get myself straight to the point I'm at now, building it up over time works nicely.

I'm about to relaunch my entire GH/RB setup, wish me luck I have 13 GH/RB games including DJ Hero, a turntable, three guitars and two drumkits all for Wii, and I'm switching now so I can get DLC managed decently (and more DLC, the Wii misses out on a bunch of stuff). I'm putting down a deposit on a PS3 tomorrow, I haven't even really thought about how much it's going to cost me for all the games and instruments, especially as I like my Logitech guitars and GH drums _________________

Cool might look at picking it up when the price comes down a bit, I have the entire set up from Guitar hero world tour that I'm assuming will work fine with it. _________________

does anyone here actually play the piano/keyboard? what do you think of the keytar... personally im thinking why would i want to play such a miniture version? 25 keys? as opposed to a full keyboard that i already have.
i get the whole - its a video game argument... i mean doesn't it feel cramped?
im talking bout piano players - im sure for non-piano players its a different experience. _________________

Playing the keyboard on RB3 is a pretty different experience from real keys, as I mentioned in an earlier post. If you want, you can use any MIDI keyboard by getting the MIDI Pro Adapter, but it's still only going to use the 25 keys that are on the keytar. In terms of crampedness - not really, you're supposed to use one hand. _________________

well that doesnt change much then if u use a real MIDI keyboard - its still effectively the same thing.
well i guess its pretty hard to sell me on it until i give it a go myself... but i really wish they went the whole keyboard... they're using the whole/full guitar, and pretty much the full drumset - i feel a bit jibbed using the 25 key keytar...
but ill stop complaining now...
and yep i saw ur earlier post - cheers _________________

Well, do try to give it a go It's not the full keyboard experience for sure, but it is a lot of fun, just don't take it too seriously and I think you'll enjoy it. _________________

As I understand it:
GH Mic - yes
GH Guitar - yes
GH Drums - nope! RB drums will play GH, but GH wont play RB. Unless something has changed there that I'm unaware of. There was an awesome period there when Rock Band's original instruments went on clearance due to the new deal with Mad Catz so I got a second kit for $20 (my first one's kick finally gave in after about 2 years) so if you're lucky you might stumble upon an old instrument or bundle really cheap but they're getting pretty rare these days (a friend in Kalgoorlie spotted a full Rock Band: The Beatles band bundle for X360 for $90, at EB I'm guessing).
Upside of using a GH guitar is that the RB recievers don't act as USB passthroughs (unless the new ones do, I know the keyboard does). So if you have issues with having enough usb ports they're a good way to go.

It used to work - don't see why RB3 would change that
Edit: Officially, yes GHWT drums will work with RB3 _________________

On 360 you can use GH drums on RB (I do it), at least you can in the first game. Other consoles could be different though.

Yeah I've always used my GH drums on the original rockband.
If they've changed it for 3 so it stops working. Well uh yeah I'm not buying the game. _________________
