I've heard the Cherry Blossoms are absolutely beautiful |
I was there in April this year. Winter was longer than normal, so it was a lovely 7 degree days, and 1 degree nights.
Awfully cold standing on the top of roofs at 1am, but the views were worth it =b
Also the Cherry Blossoms were amazing. They weren't out when I got there, so I got excited when I saw one in the street. 2 days later they bloomed.
Phwoar.

I want as much info as possible before I leave so as to prepare myself for Japan.
Here's some info.

Staying in Tokyo for a few days, then going to Niigata to visit the host family for christmas, then I return to Tokyo for New Years, stay for a day before I go to hiroshima, then miyajima, then kyoto for a few days, then I return to tokyo. _________________

@Tobias: Go to Meiji Jingu on January 1st, you'll never experience anything like it again. _________________

I went there when I was 18 and was put up by a Japanese family we know. It was awesome. Only did Tokyo and Kyoto but both were great.
Now that I know a little more about Japan, all I can say is be glad you are male...
Can't stand their archaic misogynist culture. Disgusting.
EDIT: Sorry, that post came across way too strong.
Was drunk and in a bad mood.
Still, I do not like the sexism in Japan. Don't like it at all. _________________ http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197997175012

Well Meiji Jingu and Zojoji are technically different anyway. One's Shinto and the other Buddhist. Given their religion culture there, shrines and temples might give a different "aura" when you visit. _________________ 「貧乳はステータスだ!希少価値だ!」 - 泉 こなた

Cheap and nice places to eat in
Tokyo
Kyoto
Hiroshima?
Also, I'll be going to Zozoji Temple, since my parents are buddhist for new years.
Meiji Jingu will be on the second day, also venturing to Harajuku to stuff _________________

Tokyo > Shibuya > Standing Sushi Bar
Great sushi and cheap too. As the name suggests, it's standing only but it's worth it.

Yeah relatively close. On the side with the famous crossing, up one of the (main) side streets. There's a Baskin & Robbins on the corner just before it.
That was the best sushi I had in Japan (apart from one of the guys who was there on our many meals there, who wasn't so good), after trying many different places and the fish markets (overrated for the sushi itself). _________________

Alright, I'm jumping in as well.
I'm planning to go to Japan next year during December-ish. I have about a billion weeks of uni holidays to use up.
I have been looking into staying with a Japanese family, does anyone have experience or advice on this?
I'd be going alone so I want to be around as many new people as I can. staying with a family seems like a good idea?
