Well, I'll just list a few reasons I'd choose to buy a PSPgo:

a) I lost my PSP-3000 during my family's move to a new house in the middle of the year and I'd love to replace it.

b) All the PSP games I currently own were all purchased from the PlayStation Store - I own no hard copies, opting instead for digital downloads. This is great because if I own multiple PSPs (and I plan to), I essentially have multiple copies of each game I own.

c) I like to keep my handhelds in my pocket when I'm out and about, so the smaller form factor is a welcome addition.

d) I actually found the screen of the PSP-3000 to be too big for my tastes, so the smaller screen of the PSPgo is a real treat for the eyes.

e) The addition of bluetooth (for connecting a PlayStation 3 Controller) and Game Pausing (which is something I like on my Wii VC titles) is one plus I have over the PSP-3000.

f) The price is now very reasonable, on par with other handhelds, meaning it's now a great time to nab one.

g) My birthday happens to be next week (exactly two days after the price drop), so to me that's an INOT (in the nick-of-time) plus to the PSPgo.

Bottom line, even though I'd be lucky to like only half the free games, I'd definitely like to nab a PSPgo!

Keep in mind this is a worldwide price drop. In America it's dropping from $250, in Australia it's dropping to $250. Still sound good?

My custom-firmware-running, extended-life-battery-powered PSP-1000 laughs at this madness.

This is great for those who wish to play multiplayer a lot (assuming the person you are playing with is using a PSP that is tied to your account), but outside of multiplayer a hard copy is just that—you simply put the disc into whatever system you want.

The thing I hate is that because Sony is the only distributor and they set the prices, you pay what they want. This means no second hand games, no lending, no bargain hunting—you pretty much pay RRP for everything.

For the record, I'm not going for it either, I'm just running out of 'go'-related blurbs.

Well, that's no problem for me since I don't like buying second-hand software, I don't generally loan people games I own, and I don't intend to trade-in any PSP games. Plus, there are specials in the PlayStation Store which change on a regular basis...not to mention the fact that Sony-published Essentials titles are currently cheaper in the PS Store than their UMD counterparts (Essentials on UMD are $14.95, whereas Sony-published Essentials in the PS Store are $11.95)...plus, the range of Essentials is much larger in the PS Store (APE ESCAPE FTW!!!!) icon_biggrin.gif

If sony could just offer an external attachment to be able to play UMD games I'm sure the Go would do a lot better. Maybe even allow you to port over a few games onto the Memory whilst you play it without the attachment.

It would sell lots it would ;_;

This is why the PSPGo hasn't sold well imo. You need to be a very specific consumer in order to want one. For people who like to have more control over the products they buy and how much they buy them for, hard copy is the way to go. For those who find the convenience of being able to download straight to their system and paying for that convenience either in the form of extra money or more restrictions on their content then that's also fine.

I know I'm sounding like an cranky old fartbag here, but another thing I dislike about the PSN, which also applies to most DD companies, is that they can remove the content at any time for any reason meaning you have no legal right to continue accessing your content. So for example if you buy a game then Sony decide to remove it from the PSN six months later and you want to download that game again because you deleted it to make space then too bad. I know this is quite an irrational view because why should companies provide on-going access to your content (I'm thinking years here), but it's still something that I find dodgy. (I should point out that I'm not against using DD because I buy games on Steam and I think it's very important to get Indie games noticed, but I'm against spending large amounts of money. I'd never buy a DD-exclusive console like the PSP-Go for example.)

Had one. Sold it. Preferred the larger original.

PSP2 will be out Xmas next year and 3DS 1st qtr next year.

$179 would shift a few but it's not a big enough drop.

The only thing the Go has going for it (see what I did there? icon_lol.gif) is the sleek and sexy form factor.

They just don't get it, do they?

If they want the PSP Go to be a success, they need to make the PSN Store better.

$250 with 10 free games is still a crap deal for a console with really crappy service.

When you think about it... even if you didnt buy another game EVER, you're getting 10 games on it.. and most of them aren't too bad, provided you don't already have them...

Motorstorm, LBP, GTA, Wipeout alone would keep you going for ages...

The pause function on the PSP Go is brilliant I will admit, but otherwise I play my PSP-2000 & Go just as much as each other (i.e. not a heck of a lot!!)

This is simply not true; the prices of the games (and any subsequent re-pricing) are set by the equivalent publisher of that game, they are not all moderated by Sony. The facet that RRP is the only way is also untrue because Sony have become a lot more liberal with discounts on the shop since the start of the year; I got Dissidia for $40 when most retailers were still asking for $60.

Admittedly, the GO's biggest weakness (as an owner of one, who doesn't regret the $300 he laid down for it one iota) is the lack of title availability on the PSN. Due to the way your account is handled you can't hot-swap between US/EU accounts like you can on other PSPs and unfortunately multiple legal constraints complicate localizing even existing titles as digital content; a good example are Sony's efforts to try and publish the Resident Evil games as PSOne classics on the store. Things are getting better, but it all comes down to swaying the individual publishers over to the digital market in the first place.

With that said I will admit things can, and should, be done better all the same.

I'm tempted by this as retailers will probably drop the price to around $150 pretty soon and that is pretty good with the 10 free games. But the main thing that would sell me on this is if they release Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep on the PSN Store.

Thanks for the clarification. You're right. I should have said publishers, not Sony.

When I mentioned RRP I also should have mentioned that I was talking about new release games. With new release brick stores usually have specials on and some prices are dramatically reduced, but with games released digitally they pretty much charge RRP or maybe a few dollars less. This isn't something that's exclusive to the PSN—they all do it.

But my other point stands. Unlike brick stores, you can't hunt around for the best price, you can't import a game from the UK (which is almost always cheaper than any retailer here), and you can't trade a game back in to save a bit of money on the next game you buy. You are locked into what the publisher wants you to pay. I'm sure there will be games that end up working out cheaper, but I think if you were to look overall at whether you're better of buying PSP games retail or buying them digitally, you would be worse of buying them digitally—from a monetary point of view.

I'm just repeating myself so I shall shut the hell up now.

Yes; as a customer from the financial perspective, digital downloading isn't always the best option. However, there are plenty of other benefits.

Points only work for accessories and games, not consoles. Also, where did you see that price?

Semi-related.

EA confirm existance and access to PSP2.

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=273297

Quote:
In a new interview, which will be published on CVG soon, we asked EA's Soderlund: "Have you had any exposure at all to the PSP2?"

He replied: "Well, obviously as a developer we have had that - but I'm not allowed to talk about it."
