I spend more time focusing on my speedo, making sure its less than (10% over) the limit, than on the road these days.

our site manager for our new house went to the block today to lay out the pegs to begin cutting so its ready for the slab to be laid.
got a phone call asking to come out to see about the pegs
get out there and the pegs down the back of the block were removed to do a retaining wall (not by us, by the land developer)
now we have to get it surveyed (again) and it will cost us an extra $230
and put us behind a couple more days.

Studying for Year 12 exams/friends.

The other day I was free so I asked some friends to hang out and they were like "Nah we gotta study for the whole week." So I was like fair enough.
Then since Sunday I've been revising for two hours each subject, but during my break times I log on Facebook and see they are all actually out having fun and not studying...

So I got mad rejected, been studying my brains out while they have fun and the worst part is they are probably still going to get a better Exam score than me.

You are aware that the vast majority of tax goes to things like Hospitals, Schools, Policemen etc? The only reason that you got your job in the first place was because of the education that taxes paid for.

Think of it as blowing some of your disposable income on giving a kid an education, saving a cancer patient's life and protecting your family from being killed and raped. Who wouldn't want to pay tax?

Not all Tax is well spent. Often governments that take too tax much become far more careless with the money and it is spent far less efficiently, not to mention some of the bull shit some of our tax pays for (eg Conroy).

No need to go there icon_smile.gif. Esposch is right in principle, because Tax money goes to the things many don't appreciate.

Some of it is wasted, yes. But the vast majority of it is well spent. You need only look to Africa to see what a nation without proper taxes (and infrastructure) is like.

Anyway, what really shits me:
PS3 FMV.

The PS3 has a Blu Ray disc, which holds 25 or 50gb of Data. WHY do some developers then choose to compress the cutscenes!?

The PS3 can run lossless/uncompressed cutscenes just fine. I saw them in Uncharted, FFXIII, MGS4 and a whole lot of other games.

At first I thought that maybe it was just very lazy developers porting the assets directly from 360. But no, in Valkyria Chronicles, a PS3 exclusive, there is a god damn GIANT compression artifact right in the middle of Welkin and Alicia's faces when they kiss on the battlefield after Chapter 16.

And then I was playing Prince of Persia (multiplatform) and the whole lot is lossless/uncompressed!!!!!!

Why would they do this? They spend millions producing the games! Can't they spend an extra $500 re-encoding the cutscenes and retooling the engine to work with them?

Some old woman I served at work yesterday, so we were talking about cats whilst I was serving her and she says "It's only good for making kittens" to which I chirpily said "There's only one way to fix that" (meaning de-sexing it). Then this lady gets all huffy and says "I'm not paying the $100 to have it de-sexed when it could just go on the road and get ran over by a cement mixer"

Seriously, what the hell did she think her female cat is going to do, be abstinent!?

It's people like this that s*** me, If you don't want to pay the money to care for your pet, don't get one. I had no problem coming up with the money to get both of my male cats de-sexed on a bloody checkout chick's (icon_razz.gif) salary. It's selfish people like this that contribute to the thousands of innocent kittens a year that get born of no wrongdoing of their own to just get put down, or worse yet left in a box on the side of the road to die. It's just not right and it annoys me to tears.

Sigh... perhaps she should keep her cat(s) indoors or in a cat-run then?

I hate my neighbours cats when they come in my yard and mark everything, including my front and back doors.

If she did keep it indoors or in a cat-run it wouldn't be an issue, but instead she lets it have the run of the place knowing full-well it's able to have kittens and expects the world to give a s*** when it does what cats do and gets pregnant.

And the only one any worse off is the kittens which she'll fob off to the RSPCA or something to get put down.

*fumingmad*

I know, I know, I should get off the soapbox already, but this would be among my personal top 5 things people need to be Falcon Punched for.

Running late to work, driving on a three lane road where all three lanes are occupied by a slow moving truck. Always happens when you're running late icon_confused.gif

Reminds me of when you're walking in a shopping centre and you get a bunch of teeny boppers that walk in a horizontal line, shoulder to shoulder effectively blocking your path. I hate that.

I hate Wednesdays -_-

360 I'd guess. Just create a US account on your 360, get a prepaid US points card from somewhere like Maximus Cards, download the tracks you want and you should be able to use them on your PAL copy of Rock Band. I assume the Rock Band DLC is region free like all other DLC on the 360.

The PS3 gets 'selections' of RBN tracks. Basically the ones that sell well on the 360 RBN in the US. Something like that anyway.

No you didn't. Uncompressed movies far exceeed the PS3's BD drive datarate (72 megabit per second, or 9 megabyte a second roughly - a 1080p uncompressed needs 31 megabyte per second for image data alone at 30fps). Lossless compression methods won't win there. Each and every video you view off your PS3 Bluray discs is compressed with lossy compression in the same sense that JPEG is lossy - you generally don't notice it, but you will find artefacts.

What you're really whinging about is that developers compress their movies once and are done with it. Which generally isn't true, each platform tends to have their own preferred compression method. Rather, you'll find they used the same settings for each platform and forgot about it.

I could never be bothered working out conversions so...the standard for broadcast quality uncompressed 1080p video is about 2.970 Gbit/s

Maximum bitrate for Video on bluray is 40Mbit/s, but you can only have 8Mbit/s on top of that for audio, otherwise you need to start cutting your video bitrate down.

Standard settings ftw, even though all video is different...
Also the possibility of it not being picked up in testing/deciding wasn't worth the time/money to reencode it?
