I'm loving it at the moment, however I'm stuck at April's story mission... But I'm gonna get myself some fencers to deal with that problem. _________________

I'm still disappointed that the franchise has gone to PSP, not necessarily because it's a huge downgrade, but because I enjoy strategy games more when I can play them on my TV and not hunched over a tiny screen. Can't help thinking maybe if they had gone through with their original plans and made the game multiplatform it might have performed better. But this is Sega, and any long-time Sega fan knows that they have to maintain the balance and offset their good decisions with terrible ones.
I really only have two main issues with VC2. Firstly the game still rewards speed over strategy - you have a certain number of turns to get S (A in English) rank, and you really want to get as high a rank as possible because the rewards scale up. Personally I find this annoying, because I prefer to take my time in strategy games and the way to get top rank in a lot of cases is to do things that are strategically very risky.
The other main issue is the plot. VC didn't have a fantastic plot, but it was fairly serviceable with interesting characters and so on, plus the plot was the driving force. In trying to appeal to the Monster Hunter demographic in Japan I feel like they've lost a lot of this. Apparently they've realised the problem though, Valkyria Chronicles 3 looks to be a lot more strongly plot-oriented.

I was thinking this the whole time playing through the game as well. 'Social link go!' It's heaps fun getting to know each unit's story though.
I also agree that the game is definitely NOT a downgrade from the PS3 version. Sure the graphics are probably not as nice, but everything's still there. Enjoying the hell out of this game. _________________

I'm playing mine on my TV, I just use the PSP component cables. I really don't like playing games on the small screen either so having a video output is a godsend. _________________

I thought about that, but unfortunately I don't have the cables and even if I did, with my PS2 and Wii hooked up I have no spare component inputs

The opening theme is a great piece if composition.
Good article Bev. Decent game, but lacking what made the original great.

Oh, there's this trick I know of to fix that.
What you gotta do it unplug the PS2 first, then when you're finished with the PSP, you plug the PS2 back in again.
Don't let too many people find out about it though. It's a secret. _________________

So im a few hours in and so far i agree with most of the review. The scenes feel a little out of place with whats actually happening in the game. The music score is amazing though and the battles are still crazy fun.
I also agree with the games minor shortcomings having nothing to do with the PSP. The games shortcoming have nothing to do with it been on the handheld, its just missing a couple of key story elements that made the original what it was.
The game is far from terrible though!

Wow, they really ramped up the annoying anime traits for this one, didn't they? Suddenly I'm not so disappointed with the choice to downgrade the series to the PSP.
