I'm still unsure how this will work on the button layout of the 3DS, I had SF2 on the advanced and every solution they presented was inadequte (either hold light punch/kick to get medium or use the trigger buttons for heavy) _________________

Same. I probably should have included it in the news post, but he talks about there being a touch pad option or something like that. For the d-pad, he says Nintendo haven't finalised it yet (at the time of interview, which was August I think), and kept asking the team where they think it would best fit and how it should feel
He mentioned how a lot of people probably had their first Street Fighter experience on the Super Nintendo, and since that only had four face buttons, two shoulder buttons, and d-pad they intend to get a similar setup working here.
I wouldn't be surprised if there were some unsavory control and mechanic changes that many fans will frown at, but I think as a port its going to be pretty fantastic. The fact they're not cutting any content makes me happy. _________________

I wonder how true this is?
Or atleast for people that played Street Fighter to the point were controls meant jack shit.
I mean that was what, 92? I was like 5 at the time and used to use Bison cause I thought that his heavy punches that glowed were as good as a special move. I didn't even know you could do fireballs.
And I'd guess most people under there mid 20's would be the same. _________________

I can see controls going a couple of ways...
1) iPhone port's controls - punch, kick, special and focus attack on buttons; touch screen controls for super and ultra. The punch and kick buttons are somewhat context sensitive to what you will actually perform.
2) A X L being light to heavy punch and B Y R being light to heavy kick
3) L and R being used as modifiers to produce light or heavy punches and kicks, maybe in combination with a scheme similar to (1) _________________

hmm I could see L and R working as modifiers maybe.
the AXL/ BYR was basically what they had on the Advanced and it sucked. _________________

How? There's only 4 buttons on the GBA. So no, they did not have that setup. What they did have was one button would be assigned as two strengths, holding the button produced one strength and tapping produced another. Which is different to the proposed schemes above.
2) is the same as a SNES pad (though it should be YXL=Punch BAR=Kick) and is probably the best choice. As for Throw, Focus Attacks and Ultras, either assigning them to the touch screen or button combinations are the only choices that don't require giving up on a kick/punch button.

That just made me think of how a lot of kiddies played Dhalsim because they thought that having long kicks and punches would make them virtually invincible.
Ah, good times. _________________ Playing: Fallout: New Vegas

Wait really? Shit I could have sworn the GBA had four buttons... maybe it's best if you just ignore me. _________________

I wouldn't have so much of a problem with it but the placement on the touch screen so close to the d-pad would be awkward as hell. _________________
