Hello guys, I have an internet problem and was wondering if there was something I could do to fix it. First off the internet is perfect, very happy with it, and get a download speed of roughly 10 Mbps. However when it comes to watching streamed videos it goes slow, still at a speed I'm happy with, but I can't help but notice that it takes quite long to fully buffer a youtube video (And videos of other sources). In fact its no improvement over my old internet connection (512kbps), possibly slower by a fraction. Everything else is fine though, downloads standard files/pages/images heaps quick. Its just video streaming that seems to be a problem.
Anyhelp would be appreciated, thanks

Can you please post your:
- ISP
- Connection type (wired, wireless, cable, DSL, etc)
- Computer specifications
- Operating system
- Browser and version
- Adobe Flash / Shockwave plugin versions
- Are you using 64-bit OS / Browser / Flash plugins?
You could also try the test video on YouTube which shows you a bunch of info on speed and dropped packets
There's also the HTML 5 beta on YouTube which might perform better depending on what's wrong _________________

Thanks for responding grim, my details are;
-ISP: Internode
-Connection Type: Wired connection (Naked broadband via copper wire)
-Computer Specs: Pentium(R) Dual Core, E5200?, 2.50GHz, 2GB RAM, 32 Bit Operating System, system spec rating of 3.4 (Its just a general commercial build)
-Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium
-Browser: Mozilla Firefox, ver 3.6.10 (Problems also apparent on Windows Explorer though)
-Adobe Flash: Version 10.1
-Using 64 Bit: Err well I know the OS is 32bit but no clue about those other things sorry.
I redownloaded the flash player and tried the beta though but still does the same thing, for like 2 seconds it will load at what I think should be normal speed then the rest of the video will buffer quite slow.
Hope that helps, oh I'm also approximately 1.1km from the exchange.

Nothing obviously wrong... You're on 32-bit Windows; wired connection; a decent ISP; up to date browser and plugins.
Did you try the test video on YouTube's speed page? It has a bunch of info like the speed you're streaming at embedded in the video.
My only other (wild) guess is you might be a little low on RAM. Check Windows' task manager to see how you're going with that while streaming.
I can't really think of any way to work out if it's your network or your computer right now. Unless you can lug your computer elsewhere, or can get another computer in the house? _________________

Ah yes sorry forgot to mention that, I did try the test video, which took me to a video that went for like 1.5 hours, the strange thing was though it loaded quick, it would load about a minute of the video every second in the same time that a normal sized youtube clip would load about 5 seconds.
I've read around the net and can't get a very solid answer, but I have seen someone say that youtube tried to stop people with high speeds/quotas hogging all the bandwidth so they made it so the movies start off buffering quickly but once they get about 1/3rd through buffering they slow down so its in time with what you watch. Whether thats nonsense though I'm not sure. Another thing is videos in 360/720p do the same thing, no buffering time difference between jumping qualitys.
And also didn't think to mention, I have another computer in this house I tried it on, same problem. Another similar commercial build however this one runs Windows 7, and has a performance score of 5.1 or something like that.
Anyway thanks for the help grim, I'm not too fussed about it, youtube isn't the biggest thing for me. But if its something I'm doing wrong I'd definitely try to fix it.
