With Jeremy on this. As taken back by the character and the sudden change of style, the trailer is pretty mean, both in animation and in its hinted gameplay.
That and once more, NO OVER THE TOP JAPANESE RUBBISH. Makes me happy.
Happy in the cojones. _________________

On the one hand, I really liked Heavenly Sword and I'm really looking forward to Enslaved. I love Ninja Theory's approach to character and story and facial animation and I was so disappointed that DMC4 didn't have anything to do with the Vergil story that was all I wanted to know about after DMC3. I practically ache for a more story oriented Devil May Cry game.
But, on the other hand, FANBOY RAAAAAAAGE! _________________

when I saw the enslaved 13+ minute destruoid playthorugh, I thought it was pretty bad.
a) shiny climb on me bars+poles. Its like they tried to mimic uncharted's climbing gamplay (or POP) but couldn't design better so they made these things glow/shine.
b) jerky animation
c) weird facial animation on trip
d) cheap camera shake + stupid shaking in podship
e) horrible character design for trip+monkey
it really didn't inspire confidence. _________________

This actually looks pretty cool.
The character redesign really isn't that big of a deal (nor is it anywhere near as bad as people are making it out to be) and as with any hack and slash it will always be how it plays that matters. _________________ http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197997175012

I'm all for a reboot.
Devil May Cry 4 from a gameplay perspective was boring (tonnes of backtracking) and from a story perspective it was also pretty boring / throw-away.

I played the first DMC and while I enjoyed it, I never bothered playing any others. But this trailer looks awesome.I think I may have to buy this one. _________________ Welcome to the internet. Where any joke can turn into WWIII.

Gameplay reboot, sure go nuts.
Story and charecter reboot? No.
I like the new guys character design but it just isn't Dante. Hopefully it ends up being something like DMC4 were he's another playable character a long with Dante. _________________

I have my doubts that this is Dante. Every DMC game bar the first has had a second playable character (Virgil, Nero, Red Head chick) this could easily be another playable character.
I honestly doubt that they'd be stupid enough that if they're re-desiging Dante they'd get rid of everything that makes him distinctive. _________________

Why not? I'm always up for something new and different. And while Enslaved looks like it could be hit-or-miss, Heavenly Sword was a well considered but under rated. I have faith in Ninja Theory - as Capcom obviously do too.
And as Denny implied, that trailer showed off some great potential.
Admitedly, not a fan of the hair cut though... _________________

Because Dante is an established, popular, well loved character. If that is Dante, changing him to a completely different character that bares no resemblance is stupid.
It would be kind of like changing Mario into a afro sporting sassy black man for no reason. _________________

Well, if they kept the old Dante, people would have probably just complained of "more of the same". But then there's no pleasing some...
And if the trailer didn't make it obvious, clearly the reason for the change is a reboot. Kinda like the generation's Prince of Persia. _________________

It's capcom, isn't more of the same kind of Capcoms entire thing?
Also I don't know anyone who was sick of the character, the game play might have been getting stale but updating that didn't have t completely change the main character. _________________

I too enoyed Heavenly Sword, I believe Ninja Theory will make a fine action game, but I think it will be more like say, God of War and Heavenly Sword, a story driven experience with a combat system, while brilliant, not aimed to be something that is as layered as what we have experienced in Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden and more recently Bayonetta.
Devil May Cry was all about the combat system, rewarding players for their skill and creativity in coming up with breathtaking combinations and executing those at the right time. The score system was also designed to reward players for that and that alone gave it immense replay value.
This new Devil May Cry will most likely have the combat system take a backseat for story and cinematography, much like Heavenly Sword.
Then again, this is all speculation based on Ninja Theory's past work, they could end up surprising us. _________________

^I'm pretty sure we'll be surprised considering the fact that capcom are so heavily involved. I don't think they're retarded enough to change the core of what DMC is.
This and DMC needed a reboot. Nero was forgettable (too much KYRRIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeEEEeee), Dante was slowly being overcooked (DMC2 sucked, DMC3 and 1 were good, DMC4 was average), and DMC4's combat engine was a slower and less layered copy of the DMC3 engine. Perhaps this change of design and direction is precisely what the game needed.
I'm not ready to write it off yet. I embrace change, especially when done well. _________________

I agree that the combat engine needed to be overhauled, and especially the game design the backtracking in 4 was shit. But I really don't think they needed to change the main character.
I mean we've had Megaman fronting the megaman games for what 30 games or something. Ryu and Ken being the mainstray of Street Fighter for god knows how many iterations,
But after 4 games Dante needs to be changed? Part of the charm of Devil May Cry was how completely cheesy and over the top he is. The cutscenes with him in in DMC4 were worth the price of admission alone.
I'm fine with them changing the game up, I love the new style of it, and to be honest I love the look of the new character.
But it isn't Dante and he's half the reason I play the games. _________________

I would say DMC4 was the reboot. A new character designed to appeal to some unknown subset of new fans, a storyline completely removed from the way the series had been headed, appearances from main characters in other games that were barely even cameos; I absolutely agree that that needed to change. This wasn't my ideal situation, though.
By the way, I'm pretty sure this is Dante. When you first see his face in the trailer there's a flash of him with white hair, and in some of the screenshots you can see white hair growing through the black at the back of his head. He must be pretty young, since he and Vergil were only 18 in DMC3. Maybe Dante had a really awkward puberty? _________________
