This is looking to be a fairly solid piece of equipment, and I'm definitely interested. However I'm going to wait, though its going to be awesome playing games like Resistance and Call of Duty if they throw support behind it icon_smile.gif

Sony really need to push their efforts behind this though, cause this Move looks capable but can easily fall into a territory where its forgotten.

when does this hit retail? I'd go buy it the day it launches. Seems like it launches on the 15th in PAL territories (UK is 15th)

ah, the 16th according to GAME.com.au

Seriously, the MOVE and Natal bears little appeal in my life. Fail both counts.

^ MOVE seems ok to me, it looks to be the more traditional gamer-friendly system of the two anyway...

I'm not impressed with how Natal is shaping up though. Not being able to sit down, how all the games seem to be either dumbed-down casual games or they employ an on-rails system for moving through environments, no voice recognition for Australians until a patch next year... bleh.

edit: that video doesn't really fit with what I was saying, but yeah... I just thought it was funny.

Bingo.

More thread specific, from what I've read, the MOVE hardware is impressive, the games are shovelware. No surprise.

^ A sony rep would probably respond by saying you're getting the demos for free. The bundle is roughly the same price as a dualshock 3.

An interesting article from eurogamer which, aside from analysing move, goes into the history of motion control at Sony: The Case for PS Move

Only if retailers decide to do so... Unless you wanna buy a whole new console with Move bundled in.

Been playing the s**t out of the Move tonight; Sony event, plus got some as gifts, have two and a couple of games.

Man my arms are dead. The gladiator fighting is hilariously awesome fun. I bashed some chick in the face with my shield then slapped her in the neck with a really hardcore sword hit. Also been playing table tennis, rockin' out pretty hard.

Hell of a work out. Really damn responsive device. Like, nuts.

Colour me fairly impressed.

Uhm.. yer.. FPS.. just not seeing the point of using it the Move in that way.. I've already owned a Wii so I am already over the whole concept hype..

Wii Sports, particularly bowling, was a perfect (and still is) use of the controller concept.. it makes you feel like part of the game and you have to basically do the realistic actions to get the job done..

FPS just doesn't lend itself well to these type of controllers. Accessories for these types of controllers, that make the controller look like a gun are a different matter.. but then it's not the controller itself but the accessories..

Anyway.. still waiting to be impressed.

EDIT: Just to clarify my point of view on the Move.. it's not that I think it is a bad thing.. Sony are just following in the Wii's footsteps.. and that's definitely not a bad thing because the Wii was/is very innovative.. I would just liked to have seen some kind of evolution on the concept by now.. like Project Natal did for example but from Sony's perspective..

The evolution here is that it's far more accurate than the motion sensing that the Wii offers out of the box. I don't know how it compares to the MotionPlus though (probably still better, I'd imagine).

I love Sony - but I think they've missed the boat on this... i think they do want some of Nintendo's market share and they've got to get something out, but at the same time - to the mainstream it looks effectively like the Wii. Price will be a big difference because you do have to shell out $400 for a Wii still to get two wiimotes and games and you're getting a vastly inferior machine with no

As for games for the move its complicated... personally I think...

1) pointing at the screen sucks - ie most FPSs
2) getting off the couch sucks

I do like Bowling heaps and I agree with all your reasons. I think it also helps that the game is fairly short so you dont have to stand up for a long time if you dont want to.

The one to one movement of the gladiator duels in sports champions is where the move will excel as it will offer way more control than the wii motion plus.

The move will be useful for short games, mini games i suppose... im not really interested in playing a long game like zelda with the move.

EDIT : and just on your point of Natal - I dont see how its so innovative... can someone explain... when they first showed it off - it was rather cool... but how was it different to the Eyetoy, besides voice recognition. We all know how voice recognition games have worked in the past... a bit dodgy... but i think Natal is slowly and slowly becoming to a very non-practical solution... they might sell a bit because it looks like fresh tech... but in the end its a just a glorified camera isn't it... which is why Im rather surprised at Dance Central - surely eye toy was similar?? The problem with Natal is NO one is going to stand up and play all the time - it will be a fun gadget for parties... but will it be enough for ppl to buy one. the issue is that all three companies are after the mainstream dollar now. While Nintendo realised a long time ago, MS and Sony have realised you can just make something with family appeal that doesn't have too much 'game' in it and it will sell as long as its a fun co-operative experience. The hardcore market is way smaller than the mainstream market and the cost/benefit ratio of making mainstream games is far better from an investment point of view.

^^ Re Natal.. what I meant is it was an evolution of the concepts.. not necessarily innovative. They've taken the good stuff from the Wii and the good stuff from the Eyetoy and brought them together in to an evolved product.. it could perhaps be described, if you want to be kind, as an "inspired" project.. but not from their own innovation..

So what I was hoping to see from Sony's offering was an evolution on the Wiimote concept done in Sony style.. but all I am seeing is the same with a better (technological) system.
