all good dude, this will be my fourth china trip to hangzhou. I live there for 5 weeks at a time when i go there, so im pretty comfy in my way around

Hehe.. had a little scan through. You took the easy way out on your first trip and went with someone else who'd already been and from the little I read, knows how to speak at least a little Chinese. 
On my first trip last year, I went by myself for 4 weeks.. this year again by myelf for 4 weeks. It's a really safe place to visit and if you can speak the language, it is very easy to get around do stuff.
Hangzhou is by far my favourite of all the cities I have visited (I think I have been to about 8 cities now) mainly because of the lake.. but also just because it is not so modern/hi-tech that it gets overpowering yet still modern enough to be comfortable.
Can't wait to get back there, which will be around March/.April next year.

Yes.. but only in so far as the saturation has been maxed out and the contrast adjusted. No "photoshopping".. just playing with the levels. If you saw the original, you would realise why I did that.. hehe.. Shanghai, heck most of the China, hasn't got the most clean air in the world.

Oh something I just thought of..
One of those other pictures I posted was taken in a place called Mogan Shan. To get there, you take a train from Hangzhou for about 30 mins north to a county called DeQing. From there you take a taxi up the mountain, which takes about 40 minutes. Once you get halfway up the mountain, you have to switch to a local driver's minibus and go the rest of the way up the mountain. A truly beautiful part of China, clean air, lots of green stuff (trees, grass, bamboo) and waterfalls etc.
So if you're in Hangzhou for 5 weeks and you have a spare weekend.. it might be something to look into doing. You could also take the bus from Hangzhou to DeQing (both ways really).. it's all very easy to do.. much easier than it sounds. I have a contact there who is an American that speaks awesome Chinese and can help you at every stage if required. I totally recommend it, though it is a little pricey (around 400 to 450 RMB per night for a double with a view of the valley).

Who knows how old this trail is. It's possibly older than Australia has been colonised for. Many paths I walked along in China were over 400 years old!!

Caught at just the right time, from just the right angle. This is on one of the pathways I know is over 400 years old because there was a stone sign saying so..

A box arrived today in the mail:
I wonder what's in it?
Hey look, its an Olympus OM10...
...with three lenses!
One on the left is a Focal 28-70mm [The "Focal" brand was made by Minolta back in the day], the one in the middle is a Focal 80-200mm while the one on the right is a Zuiko 50mm f/1.8.
Unfortunately, all three lenses were attacked with fungus to some degree, but from what I've read, exposing them to sunlight (uv light) will kill them off pretty quick, and the residual fungus hopefully won't be much of a big issue.
Can't wait to try it out with film

Going to China by yourself is an exciting and thoroughly satisfying experience but the problem is that you hardly get any photos of yourself. Luckily I have friends in China who were more than happy to help.

Youknow, even though there being 1.8 billion people in China, it is actually not that crowded. This is a typical scene at the main train station in Nanjing. Where are all the people??
Public Transport (Bus) in Nanjing
The public transport in China is just as surprisingly good as them not being overcrowded. You'd think you'd squashing in to every bus, train and ferry.. but this is definitely not the case. They have their peak hour just like every place but other than that, it's fine and even during the peak hours it doesn't get any worse than a Sydney peak hour.

Man..those busses look about 10000 X better than the ones in Guangzhou 
And peak hour there is pretty much hell.

Haha yer.. the buses in Xi'an and Chengdu definitely weren't as nice as the ones in Nanjing. When I arrived at Nanjing, I took the bus from the train station to my hostel.. That bus was very, very full.. but trains in Sydney also get that full.. so full that you have to literally squash in or risk falling out as the doors are closing.
There's a youtube video someplace with the perfect example of the bus chaos.. but yer.. Najing is definitely a very nice place to live by comparison to some of the other cities I have been to. If I had the choice, I would live in Hangzhou but Nanjing would be a close second.
