I've had my computer turn off 3 times today, as this is the first time I've had a chance to play the game for more than an hour. My CPU was up at 118 degrees just before.. and I decided enough was enough and I went and checked it out..
Here's the link to the official:
http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/13501356
Looking at the folder they tell you to go to, it seems this bug has been in since the beta.. |
I heard about this problem as well - I was temporarily blind yesterday when I tried to find a Starcraft II thread in the PC forums. Couldn't find it so I then decided to post about the issue in the Starcraft II multiplayer thread, then of course... I see this thread *smacks forehead*.
Anyway, so far playing this game and enjoying it a lot although I haven't played any league matches yet. Waiting and biding my time till I get it to a 'competent level' first. The only time I really got involved in multiplayer RTS's was RA3. Micro-managing RTS games is not really my strong suit.
Would love to play some games with you guys and perhaps join the leagues shortly depending on the amount of spare time I have. Msg me in game and I wouldn't mind hitting up a few practice games although don't expect anything spectacular from me... _________________ Recently Finished: Legend of Heroes - Trails in the Sky (8/10)

Just got this before the weekend and have been loving it. Played my 1v1 placement matches with Protoss and sitting pretty in Gold at the moment, still learning all the units and having fun.
On a related note, do we have a list of players up, because I would love to play with some of you guys _________________

Watched em.
You're doing a lot of things wrong that you'll need to fix in order to win. Your opponents were easy targets, you just need to take advantage of it.
1) Biggest thing was your macro and control. You're not waypointing your units well enough nor are you making enough SCVs for harvesting. 3 in each refinery, about 20 on the mineral lines. MULES need to come out as soon as you have the energy, and simply click on the mineral line when you click the destination for mules, they automatically start mining then.
2) Build order has no progression. You build a refinery, then you build a reactor to mass marines, so you didn't need the refinery in the first place if you wanted to do that. You need to learn what needs what, and what you can afford and how much you need for it.
3) You have no control groups, which was the very first thing I noticed. Select a bunch of your units (eg your reapers), hold control and press from 1-10. Now, when you want to select those units, you just hit 1 or whichever number you put em in, and they will be automatically selected. Double tapping will centre your screen on them. This is a virtual requirement pretty much.
4) You were harassed on Kulas Ravine by 2 reapers. They wiped your entire mineral line, yet you had 4 marines standing at the front door, letting this happen; you lift off your Command. Why? Kill them with your marines, reapers are a waste if you have that many marines.
5) Spend your money! At 4 minutes in you had nearly 1000 minerals. You should be teching up and building more barracks or something. Extra unit production = faster output. Use those resources!
I did a quick match vs a very easy AI to just for a basic build order and progression for Terran. They're pretty much the easiest race to play as they have no crazy perks or requirements like Toss and Zerg do, so feel free to grab it and maybe learn some stuff.
Also, 3v3 match here that was pretty awesome. About the 19-20 min mark was the area which show why Templar can annihilate entire armies. _________________

Wow, I suck at this. It's a lot more fast paced than most RTS's. I was just playing a 1 vs 1 with AI, whatever the default difficulty is, I was working on making my base and such, then they come in with 10 or so units and destroy me in the first 5-10 minutes. I need to focus more on building a lot of units early in the game I think.

5-10 mins? You can rushed in under 4 minutes! And yes, Starcraft is one of the fastest strategy games out there. Read Denny's tips up there and watch some high level replays or videos. _________________

Gonna go against the grain and talk about the campaign here, lol: finally finished it just now. Excelleeeeeeent. The story is done so much better than other RTS games, including the original starcraft. And HD FMVs don't hurt none either
The downside is waiting a year for part 2... D: _________________

You need to add everyone else too, it's not an invite/accept system. Although people will be able to message you before you add them.
I already added you BTW _________________

I really do suck at RTS's. Even when I focus on building an army, they still kill me on their second attack. I don't really care though, I'm only playing on a friends guest account until I can afford to buy it so I'm not really that focused on playing it a lot at the moment.

WOOO won another match. A guy tried to mass marines and tanks. I held him off with 2 bunkers, 3 seige and a thor. Then pwned his mineral lines with 8 marines and a dropship.
It also highlights the importance of leaving SOMETHING..ANYTHING in your base when going for the enemy. I had the terran radar up and could see 3/4 of his force had been wiped out with the other quarter going O CRAP OUR BASE IS UNDER ATTACK D: _________________

Oh wow, I just played a few missions of StarCraft 1... the game is terrible! TERRIBLE!!! Pixelly, blurry graphics, can only group about 8 units together, they're STUPID and block each other and spin in circles.
Aww man, this game used to be cool XD _________________

Had a good game then with mrcool37, fixed some of the things you were talking about still had lots of minerals at one stage i had like 3k :S didnt realise i had that much while playing but just checked the replay.
I left my first attack on him way to long cause i had enough marines/marauders to take him out in the first 10 mins or so but left it a bit late still did alot of damage when i went but he had enough time to rebuild before i could get there again.
Edit: win/loss in the practice league is at 2/14, i really am terrible at this game honestly dont know what to do ive worked on things you said denny but i always get smashed, i just lost a game then from enemy void rays thats all he needed like 3 of them and even with aa and marines up he manages to stay far enough away from aa to destroy barracks and like 5 supply depots. Dont wanna see what happens when i get out of practice league _________________ Wanna go to space?

Yer.. that is the hardest thing for me to decide, Alex.. "When to launch my first attack." I generally just wait for them to attack first and then after I wipe out their attack, I counterattack.. but I've really got to learn to know when enough is enough to launch my first attack because it's not just about the size of my army but also how long it took to build the army up.. _________________

Yea im the same but alot of the time there first attack takes out to much of my force to even try attempt going for them so im left building up again and then they are normally already coming back over to attack me, thats if i make it past the first 10 mins.......
Ohh well first time ever playing starcraft so didn't think i was gonna be any good, atleast after losing so much im still going i would normally give up on a game by now. _________________ Wanna go to space?

Terran AA range can be upgraded via engineering bay. I'm pretty sure this allows it to reach void rays :S I haven't actually tried it in a match yet.
Also as Denny said a few posts ago, Vikings will outrange a void ray since they have 9 range and voids have 4. As long as you keep moving out of range they'll be safe. _________________

I think I'm doomed to be stuck around rank 40 of Bronze League forever. The process seems to be lose three, win one, ad nauseum which keeps putting me smack bang in the exact same place every time.

Thats same to me. 2 nights ago I lost 4 in a row, but last night I won one so I'm sitting on like rank 50 of bronze or even worse actuallly..

I usually put up turrets then have marines nearby to provide support, branching out to vikings later to protect the aa because sometimes they WILL get outranged, especially by broodlords. Also dont be afraid to use the radar towers. Sure the enemy will see the circle on their map but they already know where your base is so you might as well use the radar to your advantage. _________________
