Hello everyone!
Many of you probably know me as the managing editor of PALGN, whose scribblings about life, the universe and (actually, almost entirely)video games get posted every so often for readers to digest. But my horrible secret alter ego is that I'm also a postgraduate student at RMIT, studying the Master of Creative Media course in Film & TV.
I'm currently writing, directing and producing a short film this semester, which is just as much work as it sounds. It's a psychological horror film, with the working title of 'Blind Spot', and while I don't want to give the details of the plot completely away, it's a mockumentary that deals with the supernatural phenomenon known as the 'shadow people'.
The shadow people are entities that have been documented across the world, by thousands of people. Many people report seeing them while experiencing sleep paralysis, terrifyingly seeing them observing them as they lie in bed, unable to move. Others claim to see them walking through the house in daylight or night, passing through walls. Some even have consistent reports of 'the Hat Man', a shadow wearing a fedora hat, or the 'Hooded Figure' who resembles the grim reaper.
Part of the film's story at this point sees its protagonist finding a wealth of information about the shadow people, including some drawings and sketches that depict them. Unfortunately, I am terrible at drawing, as my storyboards will attest, so I was hoping that there may be some creative people out there on PALGN who might like to give drawing these things a shot, which I could then use on-screen in the film during this scene.
Essentially, I'm after any drawings of the shadow people that anybody would be willing to create and allow me to use in the film. You would need to sign a release allowing me to use the drawing in the film, and while I can't offer any kind of payment, I can give you a 'Special Thanks' credit in the film when it's completed.
If you would like to contribute to the film, I would be really grateful, plus it's a cool way to see some of your work in a movie, that will hopefully go on to show on some festivals (or at the very least YouTube)!
I'm open to any kind of drawing of the shadow people, whether it be painting, sketch, digital drawing, Photoshop, Paint, it doesn't really matter. I'm just after a variety that can be shown on screen to give the audience a sense of what these things are. I'd like at least one sketch of the 'Hat Man' character, who in the film is quite tall (around six foot), wears a fedora hat and has blazing and massive red eyes (like my avatar). Others could be of the hooded figure, or if you like you can draw something even more hideously deformed, as long as it is shadow-like.
If you want to get involved and need some further inspiration, there's a man who catalogues these things at this website here, and here are some sketches that I've found on Google search that I quite like:
Post any pictures you come up with in this thread so we can all get creeped out, and I can get in contact over releases over PM. Thank you in advance to anyone who'd like to help out! _________________

Not sure if this is the type of thing you're after, but I'll get the ball rolling for you.

I've actually had an experience like this. One night I was drifting off, or already asleep, I can't be sure... it was winter, so I had my doona pulled right up, laying on my side in bed. My fingers were outside the doona, close to my face, still clutched to the doona from when I pulled it up over myself. Anyway, I felt the presence of an aggressive cat and my fingers felt exposed as though somehow I knew the cat was targeting them and just waiting for the slightest movement to pounce and attack. I was frozen, unable to move for fear of being attacked by the SHADOW CAT.
I ended up properly waking up because of it. Turns out my cat was actually in the room and he wanted to go outside, but I'm not sure whether he was even anywhere near my hands, or whether it was a dream or what.
@Fetidchimp: how did you get that light behind your character like that? Looks awesome.

Soudns like a great idea Adam!
I can't draw for shit, but I thought I'd throw in that I used to see the 'hat men' all the time back at one particular house when i was younger. I thought they were mafia men or something who were making sure I wasn't bad. _________________ Worst. Signature. Ever.

^Thanks, but probably not, since I don't want to use copyrighted material in the event that the company that owns it sees the film and wants me to remove it. _________________

PAGE STRETCH.
Got off SC2 for a bit and did some sketches and 'visualisations' of shadow people, or the lesser type rather than the tall man.

That dude haunted the shit out of me when I was younger... No joke! Used to stand at my bedroom door when I was sleep or awake... unsure..
Parents used to come into my room and catch me sitting up screaming. Seriously when I think of my nightmares I think of this...
your post brought it allll back lol... Just thinking about it gives me a bad feeling
Then we moved house and it never happened again so there. Not too fussed anymore.
Never knew there was a name for them or anything... nice to know im not completely insane haha
Edit: Just asked dad what i used to tell him about them, first thing he said was I "always was horrified of its eyes..." :O _________________ http://bencadphotography.com/

Thanks for all the contributions everyone! I'll definitely be using as many of these as I can in the film - some really fantastic work here!
Seeing as the pictures don't need to be edited in until a later stage, I may not be in touch regarding release forms for a little while, but I'll post here once they've been sent. _________________

Sorry, a bit off topic, but I have a quick update on my cat. Last night he was laying next to me again as I drifted off and I had a similar experience to the last time. He bit onto my left hand this time though. The fleshy bit of my palm from the little finger side. I was yelling at him to let go but he wouldn't. After several warnings, I punched him in the face and he still held on until I woke up. I yelled at him again and shoved him off the bed, and after a few seconds I realised it was another dream.
Weird. I didn't think dreams happened until you enter the rapid eye movement cycle of sleep. Like an hour or so after you fall asleep. Makes me wonder if my cat has some kind of supernatural freddy krueger type powers.

Thanks everyone who's sent their release forms back to me, I appreciate it! I've just got one more day of shooting on Monday, then the long process of post production begins. I'll keep you guys updated on the film in this thread. Here's a logo that will probably be used in the trailer.

^Well, that poster is something of a misnomer. It's meant to be handed in to my assessors by November. _________________

You can, but it's a recurring line in the film, 'I saw him'. _________________
