I'm not sure if anyone's heard, but the recently released (and completely awesome!) Source version of Alien Swarm (the full game of which is as free as the air we all breathe!) is also able to be played in first person mode in addition to the standard top down view thanks to the efforts of a code happy gamer who found out how to change the perspective ingame.
To do this, all you need to do is to get into or start up a game in progress, hit the tilde (~) button and then type:
firstperson
asw_hide_marine 1
asw_controls 0
It is scary as f*ck. I wholly encourage anyone who enjoys a good scare to try out FPS mode. A truly awesome way to play it. Really reminds me of the edge of the seat thrills and chills I got from playing Rebellion's Aliens versus Predator (the 1999 version, not the uber average 2010 version that is..).

Why would you want the game without Steam? You intend to play it with bots? =\

It's only available through Steam at the moment. Seeing as it's a free release, I doubt it will be released in any other form.

The tide (~) key isn't working when I want to type something in game. What exactly do I have to do? Sorry I'm new to pc games and don't know any of the commands
