Hello, me and my friend visited EB to have a game price matched from Game's current sale and the employees at EB would not match it because they claimed Game was liquidizing all stock since the company is closing and that apparently this EB store said they were offered the position of the Game store in the same shopping center. So we then headed up to Game and told them what EB had said which they denied and told us that EB had done it before to try and get out of price matching from Game. I was also curious if anyone else had been told something similar?

Anyway, just buy it from GAME, screw em.

I read on Whirlpool that EB were told not to match GAME's sales because they were doing "crazy shit" or something like that.

Isn't EB's price matching at manager's discretion? So they could just straight up say no anyway. May be mistaken though.

I'm pretty sure your right, i think EB can refuse a price-match at their discretion.

I've never been denied a price-match, but I was only matching the normal JB $79 brand-new game price.

I went in a couple of weeks ago to see if EB would price match Mass Effect 2 for $24 or whatever it was going for (I wanted the game, but I returned the copy I bought from GAME due to it being so badly scratched that not even at that price was I going to keep it), and the girl who served me typed (or pretended to) some stuff on the computer and just said 'no, we can't'. I was a little stumped, so I said 'oh, is it because the price is too low?', even though I've been told by my local EB games manager that they'll price match *anything* provided its in stock blah blah blah, and she just goes 'no, we just can't'.

So yeah. It is at their discretion and whatnot. But goddamn it was SO frustrating when she said 'no'. At least give me a reason!!

it used to be price match policy.

then it was ONLY in close proximity

then it was only in this mall

now it is.. we're not matching because GAME is closing down. Surely that is something GAME can sue EB with its bullshit and malicious rumour mongering.

Tell your friend that because of him more people get a 'new' game at full price that he 'rented'.

ages ago toys r us had saints row for 15 bucks. This was about a month after it was released. I bought it and the disc didn't work. It was the last copy, so I went to EB to match it and they said it was too cheap.

I think there is a limit to what they will match. I understand it to some degree. When big w had left for dead and orange box for 5 bucks a year or so again I dont think its reasonable to expect them to match that.

If its in jb's catalouge and they refuse to match it for example I think thats a problem

From what I've gathered and just going off what my EB store will match. Basically if its advertised in a catalogue or a print out they will match it, however if its clearance stock, eg the $5 games at BigW or whatever, they won't, which is fair enough.

It also comes down to how well you get treated by the store. They know me and the Manager is great and pretty much matches anything for me without ringing to check etc, but I know alot of other stores are stricter.

I know a person at GAME told me that they can only match it to X price, being cost price for them. They can't go lower because then they start losing money, which is fair enough.

In regards to that, I was told that they scrapped the whole not price matching if it's below cost price, and that they price match only if its in stock, much like EB games. But you know, different people enforce different rules icon_rolleyes.gif

Why would i? I said he likes to get it from EB since it means he can take it back if he doesn't like it and get his money back so i then made the comment it's kinda like free rental. It's EB's policy and if you don't like it take it up with them?

Hah yeah, this was last year though (when I bought a game hah). I don't think it was the manager serving me so I can see why he said it.

ok - here is what I experienced -

1. GAME will price match if it is above their cost price at the time. By that I mean that I was refused a price match at GAME knox when Fallout 3 was realed to match JB's $79. However when the game fell to $49, GAME happily price matched it saying that the "cost" prices in their system had been marked down - This is totally understandable.

2. EB promise to price match if the store has it in stock be it in the catalogue or not. EB Knox is particulary good at this and honour it all the time - some of them at the store believe me but a couple dont and call the respective store which is again pretty fair. However, I have been turned down twice at EB Eastland (Ringwood) where the store salesperson has told me that the store in question didnt have it in stock , which has turned out to be a lie as I did go back to the original store and bought the games from that store and took it back to the salesperson to prove my point, to which I just got a shrug... :O. The reason for me to try and price match from EB is because I get a lot of gift cards as gifts.
