This sucks, but on top of this, my gaming computer decides to chuck a wobbly and break too. So much moneys worth of stuff broken within 2 minutes of each other.

If both broke within minutes of each other could you possibly have had a power surge? If so this is why surge protectors are important

That could be possible but my computer still turns on, it gets to the XP loading part and then restarts. It just keeps going on that loop, I'm not sure what it is but I think it's the motherboard.

Still could be a surge. All you need is a slight spike or dip in power and you could fry any or all of your conponents.

Open it up and have a look.

Still doesn't fully protect you. I've still had: A Desktop PC, a modem, Xbox and TV blow up, while on surge protectors. Most of them were on different ones, and not all the items connected to them got it, so it was still worth it. Plus the lifetime guarantee meant we got new, better versions.

If I send in the PS3 to get it fixed, do I get the same PS3 back? My PS3 is the 60gb backwards compatible version and I'd hate to get one back that isn't backwards compatible.

I heard you get the same model back but very rarely do you actually get your console back.

Which sucks, I really don't want somebody elses console because I know, after the way I treat my console, the chances of the other one being in a better condition is like 1%

To Sony?

They'll replace the mainboard (with a reconditioned one) and wipe the harddrive. You should get to keep backwards compat.

Under warranty - free.

Out of warranty - generally $250.

In that case, I might just buy a new PS3 when I can afford it. For an extra $150 I can get one brand new, albeit without backwards compatibilty. Do the slim versions have the same fault as the older model?

^It's the launch that is the most unstable version. Apparently most of the problem is the bad thermal compound that gets worn off in a few years. It was solved after the launch.

Sending the console to Sony and they will wipe your HDD. Just letting you know before you do decide to do that.

Some forumer has some home fix in the past YLOD thread, here is one of them The Yellow Light (read second one).
