I liked Deadly Alliance. My favourite 3D MK.
Good though going back to 2D. Looking promising judging by trailer.

This does look pretty neat, but I'm not that excited from reading this.
I'll explain.
I never was an MK guy (Streetfighter all the way) when I was a kid. I spent so much money in arcades and at the local shopping centre it isn't funny. I really hated (and still hate) SF IV, mainly because they tried to shoehorn SF II into a next gen engine. The controls felt like they were from the 1990's, which is all well and good if you want to play SF II, but I've been playing the SoulCaliber series, DOA series, Tekken Series, and Virtua Fighter series in between. I don't want to regress just from some nostalgia.
Unfortunately it seems the MK team will be doing the same thing, grab a next gen engine, slap a known franchise on it and take the control scheme from 20 years ago. Do they really think all gamers are this shallow? _________________ ]

Sortius, so you want MK And SF to throw away their 2D heritage and fighting models in favour of a 3D fighting Tekken/SC/DOA/VF clone? Just looking at that short list makes me think the 3D fighting market is flooded enough as it is =\ _________________

I think if it's just an evolution of MK2/MK3 everybody will be happy. _________________ Shin J Leon.

MORTAL KOMBAT!!!!! * starts playing the main theme from the MK movie.
Looking forward to it, i'm a lover of fighting games... that said, like Street Fighter 2 - i was pretty crap at the arcade version (all i could basically do in my youth was the leg sweep, roundhouse kick or uppercut ). It wasn't until i got the Mega Drive version as a christmas present in '94, that i started getting good at the game. I'll never forget the guy at Video Games Heaven pulling off Sub-Zero's fatality (after entering in the blood/cheat code at the menu), his reaction was priceless. It was also the period where i went from the standard 3 button controller, to the 6 button.
I wasn't very good at MK 3 or MK 4, but loved Deadly Alliance, Deception and Armageddon etc.
* As a side note to my soundtrack reference, i remember when the film clip for the song came out before the movie itself, it was basically a montage of Mortal Kombat 1 game play

Why change something that works, or is a point of difference to other fighters ? Heck i'd love a MK vs DC Universe #2, don't think it will happen though

The only thing I'm worried about is how another time Edd Boon said that he questions going to far with the fatalities.Plus with the more mature game, it makes me wonder if the fatalities will be too gruesome and realistic for an MA15+ rating. _________________ Welcome to the internet. Yeah, same here. I said it in the other thread, but this was the kind of MK gameplay that gave a SF2 a run for it's money back in the 16-bit era and was SF2's main rival before SNK really came into the picture. However, I don't expect this game to sell like hotcakes or stand toe to toe in terms of sales and popularity with SF4.
However, I still think this will be a solid game and will be very nostalgic to play since MK seems to returning to its roots in terms of gameplay and seems to be including much of the 16-bit era roster.

Spot on! MK2 was my favorite. I'd definitely be happy if the new game with its updated look adopts an engine similar to those games with some good upgrades.

If Kitana's outfit is a swap of Mileena's like in MK2, I'm fine with seeing those two hot chicks beat the crap out of each other.

Out of all those games you listed, DOA is by far one of the most shallow fighting games that exists and its clear what the main attraction in that game is. So you really have no ground on calling gamers shallow for liking an old, but solid engine.
Also each of those games you've listed all started in the 1990's and the core aspects of many of those games have not changed to this day. So I have no idea why you're bagging on the new MK or SF4 for going back to an "old" classic engine when nearly all of your favored games never even left the original engine.
After over a decade of playing 3D MK games, I think many fans would want to see the 2D engine brought back and updated. Its been 15 years since a 2D style MK was made, so I want to relive what made it popular and experience it a new way. 3D MK DID adopt a new engine and it never really caught on like it's predecessors. The original fans didn't like it much and it sure didn't attract the same amount of newcomers like the 2D titles did. MK long desperately needed a change and going back to it's roots is the perfect idea, but of course I don't know if you could understand that since you never liked MK. _________________

Kung Lao grew some balls! Or surgically removed them from some other bloke and then genetically engineered big mighty ones.
How his hat spins in place like a saw however, is pure badass skill. XD
