Another bad move for Sony? Releasing another next-gen system earlier than the rest, thus giving them out-dated hardware when other consoles hit. Any suggestions?
P.S. It irritates me when you hear mis-informed consumers tell people that the PS3 will be out by christmas. ou try and tell them otherwise and they just look at you like you don't know what your talkin about.

Another bad move? When was their first one? I mean look at the PS2 sales figures. They seem to do alright launching first.
The ONLY mistake I see that SONY has made is with the actual hardware. All hardware will be outdated soon enough, but the PS2 was never really cutting edge. The 4mb video ram didnt help. The lack of anti alaising and texture comprerssion in hardware again, didnt help.
The PS2 sold on hype. The PS3 will sell on hype, but hopefully the actua machine will live up to some of it this time. Microsoft and Nintendo have until 2005 to convince people that SONY isnt the popular gaming platform of choice for the coming generation. So far, even with the shitty hardware, the average consumer seems to think the PS2 is the best platform of the 3. Lets see what they think this time next year.
That's because the average consumer sells on the amount of games, not the quality. When one AAA comes out, they'll go fanatical and claim that this title beats all of the other AAA titles for other platforms. _________________
From what I've heard, isn't Sony going to make the PS3 a true set-top box?
I've even read that they want to sell games only through download using fiber-optic lines... _________________

Well they better hope the world is ready for that by 2005.

It's anoying that a next-gen console comes out earlier than the others, it really screws around with the market. It put Sony in it's own catagory... Stupid Sony...

What i meant by 'another bad move' was relating to the hardware. I mean sure, an earlier stake in the market means a biiger userbase once the other systems are out, hell look at the Ps2, a 15 month lead in the marketplace gave them a helluva push.
However, a lot of the 'casual' gamers and parents do recognize the difference in the machines (so they say), especially when comparing
anyhing to the Xbox.
I had MOTO GP running on PS2 and Xbox, right next to each other. And i can't tell you right now, there was a LOT of differences. The 'box did a lot of features with that game, as in motion blurring without the extent of the ps2's GTA3 which gave you a headache if you looked at it too long, FSAA, Even the cube does Sub-pixel anti-aliasing.

Nintendo plan to keep the cube going for 5 years. So, in 2005, Nintendo will be the giant that Sony have to try to surive under, much like the current PS2/Cube situation now, heh. Imagine all of us Cubers sitting back, for 2 whole years, watching Sony squirm, heh, and then, it might just flop, heh, doesnt sound bad any way you look at it.
Im all for it then, viva la Nintendo! ^_^ _________________ Prove yourself.

I think SONY's smart Sub, its you that might be stupid.
I'm sure the execs at SONY are kicking themselves for releasing the PS2 when they did. Its not like its selling INCREDIBLY WELL and stilll doing so even AFTER the other two consoles have launched. No you're right. Stupid SONY.

You forget. Assuming the PS2 continues to dominate this generation of consoles, come 2005 there will be a huge SONY user base (Again) anticipating the release of PS3. The usual hype machine will kick into gear. And all those PS2 owners who had put off getting a GameCube arent about to rush off and get one with the PS3 just around the corner. That would be like rushing to buy a N64 the year before the PS2. Wont happen. Nintendo needs to sell as many Cubes as possible as soon as possible.
Personally, assuming the PS3 does launch in 2005, I'll be very excited. If the hardware avoids the mistakes of the past I'll definately be buying one. And I'll be very tempted to buy games for my new PS3 rather than my 3 and a half year old Gamecube.
Bet on the underdog by all means, just dont underestimate the race favourite. It doent do any good.
What's wrong with the PS name? I like it.
It's not any worse than the other names of consoles anyway... _________________ Leigh's Videos - School Is Fun
I think Sony have turned the Playstation name into an official product name - like the Walkman. You don't expect Sony to rename the Walkman with every update they give it, so it'll be the same for the Playstation. That's why I think you'll always get PS2,3,4,etc.
Well, that's what I think anyway. They could change the name someday... _________________
