Hopefully you can use this if you already have a foxtel subscribtion.
Still, it opens it up massively for people that just might want a couple of channels.
Really smart and pratical idea.
More info:
| Quote: | Foxtel has signed a deal with Microsoft to deliver 30 channels of pay TV over the internet.
The 30 channel service will be streamed live to users of the XBox 360.
The channels included in the package will include Fox Sports, Discovery, ESPN, Disney, Nickeoldeon and Sky News.
Foxtel CEO Kim Williams said the service would deliver "live television to subscribers in quite a unique way".
The service does not require the Foxtel set-top unit.
It will be launched later this year.
A similar service was launched in the UK with Sky, and in France on the Canal Plus platform.
There are approximately one million XBox 360 console owners in Australia, roughly half of which are already signed up to the console's "live" service.
The XBox 360 system allows television viewers in different locations to communicate, either on screen or using audio headset, while they watch the same program.
Williams said the service would capitalise on the growing trend, particularly with younger viewers, of using social networking tools while watching television.
The service will require an XBox "gold" account. Pricing for the service will be released later this year.
Williams said at least two ISPs, which he declined to name, were planning to offer the service "unmetered", which means the downloaded data required to use it would not count against their plan.
He would not say whether 3D services would be delivered by the service, but pointed out that both the XBox360 and Foxtel IQ2 devices were both 3D-capable devices.
Last year Foxtel launched a TV download service free of charge for is subscribers which was intended to pave the way for a live streaming service.

No good for me my Internet is too slow...and the fact I don't have a 360
On a side note, why don't these pay TV providers just give the option of so many dollars per channel with minimum spend or a sport only option. I would sign up for sure then... _________________

this is good for me....i only had foxtel for the premier league and when i couldn't get optus foxtel anymore, i decided not to bother (optus has no contract, don't think they take new customers anymore either)
So depending on cost, it could be really sweet. _________________ kill, kill, kill.....the white man. Kill the white man, kill

RXWAG, I've been banging on about that very thing for ages.
I don't want to have to pay $X per month for 30 odd channels of rubbish, but I would certainly consider $5 or $10 per month for just the footy season.

This. This. THIS. Instead of getting no money from me, they could if they just offered the ability to pick channels, with no minimum to how many you can buy. But no, greedy buggers want you to pay for a bunch of shit you don't need.
This is good in theory, but I'd be interested to see how well it performs with my Internet, how much data it uses etc.

I'd only be interested in 1 or 2 channels. I'd be happy if I could just buy a channel at a time rather then the whole packages they seem to sell currently. Oh and this would have to be unmetered otherwise there'd be no point really.

If it was free data I'd consider it. The only way you'll get that is with Telstra, and I'm not going anywhere near that one. _________________ ]

Yeah it'll be Telstra and someone else, since Foxtel is half owned by Telstra (and quarter owned by News Corp. & Con. Media Holdings).
I hope this is free for Xbox Live Gold subscribers/Foxtel subscribers, it's $80 a year for a service Sony have been quick to catch up on.

I read somewhere that it was free if you are both a Foxtel and a Xbox Live Gold subscriber.

I think it's genius, I want a couple of Foxtel channels, but screw paying for them. Hopefully it's not too expensive.

Would I be able to just give the address (or however you apply for it) of my nans house? _________________

I recon this is a good idea and more then likely is the future of TV, if this countries internet was up to scratch we would quickly see internet based tv streaming take over from standard coax

Apparently if you already have a fox subscription the only fee involved is a Gold Account. This is awesome news. Looks like the 360 is going back into the man cave

I think this is a good thing too, but I doubt ill get it because Im sure it will be overpriced. It would have to be a LOT cheaper than normal Foxtel for me to consider it.
Still if you can cheaply get one or 2 channels ill consider it. _________________ XBL/PSN/Steam: BenC82
